Claims
- 1. A system for monitoring and detecting events and/or conditions in a plant, said system comprising:at least one detector capable of detecting an event and/or condition in said plant, said detector in communication with an enclosure or an enclosed material in said plant; at least one battery powered spread spectrum megahertz transmitter in communication with said at least one detector to receive and transmit signals from a location in the plant relating to a detected event and/or condition in the plant to another location, said transmitter having an identification code and transmitting signals on predetermined time intervals; and a central processing location for receiving signals relating to a detected event or condition in said plant from said at least one battery powered megahertz spread spectrum radio frequency transmitter.
- 2. The system of claim 1 wherein the detector is capable of detecting more than one condition and/or event.
- 3. The system of claim 1 wherein the detector is capable of detecting temperature and some other condition and/or event.
- 4. The system of claim 1 wherein the plant is selected from the group consisting of oil, gas, petrochemical, chemical, pharmaceutical and food processing plants.
- 5. The system of claim 1 wherein the at least one detector is selected from the group consisting of pressure, level, temperature and emission detectors.
- 6. The system of claim 1 wherein the event and/or condition is selected from the group consisting of leaks, spills, levels, temperatures and pressures.
- 7. The system of claim 1 wherein the detector is located on an enclosure enclosing a material selected from the group consisting of oils, gases, chemicals and petrochemicals.
- 8. The system of claim 1 wherein the at least one detector is located near a valve, said valve being in communication with a pipe in said plant.
- 9. The system of claim 8 wherein the plant is a pharmaceutical plant.
- 10. The system of claim 1 wherein the detector detects an event and/or condition in relation to an enclosure enclosing food.
- 11. The system of claim 1 wherein the transmitter transmits a low battery power signal.
- 12. The system of claim 1 wherein the at least one detector is an adsorption detector.
- 13. The system of claim 12 wherein the detector comprises a substrate, electrode elements on said substrate, adsorbent particles and optionally, non-adsorbent particles.
- 14. The system of claim 1 wherein the detector is capable of detecting substances having a van der Waals' “a” constant of less than about 9 when operated in a non-current saturated mode.
- 15. The system of claim 1 wherein the enclosure encloses an area around a valve stuffing box.
- 16. The system of claim 1 wherein the enclosure encloses an area around a pipe flange.
- 17. The system of claim 1 wherein the detector detects temperature, and said enclosure encloses a material selected from the group consisting of chemicals, pharmaceuticals and foods.
- 18. The system of claim 1 wherein the detector detects a condition selected from the group consisting of temperatures, pressures and level, and the enclosure encloses a material selected from the group consisting of chemicals, petrochemicals, oils and gases.
- 19. The system of claim 17 wherein the enclosure is a pipe.
- 20. The system of claim 18 wherein the enclosure is a pipe.
- 21. The system of claim 1 wherein the detector is capable of also detecting temperature.
- 22. A system for monitoring and/or detecting events and/or conditions in a plant, said system comprising:at least one detector capable of detecting an event and/or a condition in the plant; at least one battery powered spread spectrum radio frequency transmitter in communication with said at least one event and/or condition detector to transmit signals relating to the detected event and/or condition in said plant from a location in the plant to another location, said transmitter having a predetermined programmed identification code and capable of transmitting on a predetermined time interval; and a central processing location for receiving signals relating to the detected event and/or condition in the plant from said at least one battery powered spread spectrum radio frequency transmitter.
- 23. The system of claim 22 wherein the at least one battery powered spread spectrum transmitter is a megahertz spread spectrum transmitter.
- 24. The system of claim 22 wherein the at least one detector is selected from the group consisting of pressure, level, temperature and emission detectors.
- 25. The system of claim 22 wherein the plant is selected from the group consisting of oil, gas, petrochemical, chemical, pharmaceutical and food processing plants.
- 26. The system of claim 22 wherein the event and/or condition is selected from the group consisting of leaks, spills, levels, temperatures and pressures.
- 27. The system of claim 22 wherein the detector is located on an enclosure enclosing a material selected from the group consisting of oils, gases, chemicals, petrochemicals and foods.
- 28. The system of claim 22 wherein the at least one detector is located near a valve, said valve being in communication with a pipe in said plant.
- 29. The system of claim 28 wherein the plant is a pharmaceutical plant.
- 30. The system of claim 22 wherein the detector detects an event and/or condition in relation to an enclosure enclosing a material selected from the group consisting of oils, gases, chemicals, petrochemicals and foods.
- 31. The system of claim 22 wherein the transmitter transmits a low battery power signal.
- 32. The system of claim 22 wherein the at least one detector is an adsorption detector.
- 33. The system of claim 32 wherein the detector comprises a substrate, electrode elements on said substrate, adsorbent particles and optionally, non-adsorbent particles.
- 34. The system of claim 22 wherein the detector is capable of detecting substances having a van der Waals' “a” constant of less than about 9 when operated in a non-current saturated mode.
- 35. The system of claim 22 further comprising at least one enclosure, wherein said at least one detector is in communication with said enclosure.
- 36. The system of claim 35 wherein the enclosure encloses an area around a valve stuffing box.
- 37. The system of claim 35 wherein the enclosure encloses an area around a pipe flange.
- 38. The system of claim 35 wherein the detector detects temperature, and said enclosure encloses a material selected from the group consisting of chemicals, pharmaceuticals and foods.
- 39. The system of claim 35 wherein the detector detects a condition selected from the group consisting of temperatures, pressures and levels, and the enclosure encloses a material selected from the group consisting of chemicals, petrochemicals, oils and gases.
- 40. The system of claim 38 wherein the enclosure is a pipe.
- 41. The system of claim 39 wherein the enclosure is a pipe.
- 42. The system of claim 22 wherein the detector is capable of detecting more than one condition and/or event.
- 43. A system for monitoring and/or detecting events and/or conditions in a pharmaceutical plant, said system comprising:at least one detector capable of detecting an event and/hr condition in said plant; at least one battery powered spread spectrum radio frequency transmitter in communication with said at least one event and/or condition detector to transmit signals relating to the detected event and/or condition in said plant from a location in the plant to another location; and a central processing location for receiving signals relating to the detected event and/or condition in the plant from said at least one battery powered spread spectrum radio frequency transmitter.
- 44. A system for monitoring and/or detecting events and/or conditions in a plant, said system comprising:at least one detector capable of detecting an event and/hr condition in said plant, said detector capable of detecting substances having a van der Waals' “a” constant of less than about 9 when operated in a non-current saturated mode; at least one battery powered spread spectrum radio frequency transmitter in communication with said at least one event and/or condition detector to transmit signals relating to the detected event and/or condition in said plant from a location in the plant to another location; and a central processing location for receiving signals relating to the detected event and/or condition in the plant from said at least one battery powered spread spectrum radio frequency transmitter.
- 45. A system for monitoring and/or detecting events and/or conditions in a plant, said system comprising:a group of enclosures, at least one enclosure enclosing a material selected from the group consisting of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and foods; a group of detectors capable of detecting an event and/or condition in the plant, at least one detector in communication with said at least one enclosure and capable of detecting a temperature in the plant; at least one battery powered spread spectrum radio frequency transmitter in communication with said at least one detector capable of transmitting signals relating to the detected event or condition in said plant from a location in the plant; and a central processing location for receiving signals relating to a detected event or condition in said plant from said at least one battery powered megahertz spread spectrum radio frequency transmitter.
