Description
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
1. Field of the Invention

This invention relates to wearing headgear while out in the sun attending holiday events and/or amusement parks to protect the face and head from the harmful rays of the sun. Typical holiday events or theme park headgear is made of a rigid band of plastic that holds onto the sides of a person's head by friction. These various headgears add to the festivities and enjoyment of amusement parks; however, they do not provide any protection from the sun. Skin cancer is the leading cause of death due to a combination of constant exposure to the sun in day to day living and lack of consideration of the damaging effects of Ultraviolet (UV) light. To protect against skin damage, broad brimmed hats or baseball style hats are worn by many people. However, when attending a holiday event or visiting an amusement park, individuals are forced to decide between protection from the sun or wearing festive headgear. Traditional holiday or amusement park headgear simply does not provide protection from sun's damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays. Wearing the proposed invention allows individuals the ability to both be protected from the sun and join in festivities.

2. Description of the Prior Art

Current festive headgear is typically comprised of a thin rigid head band that is held onto the wearer's head by friction with decorations or corporate trademarks placed along the top of the curve of the rigid headband. Wide brimmed hats or baseball style hats are available for purchase from private vendors where these vendors have arbitrarily attached amusement park headgear to them and then offered the combined item for sale. However, this does not allow the user to use their already purchased holiday or amusement park headgear; only what has been made by someone else. It also prevents individuals from wearing holiday or amusement park headgear that has sentimental value to them since the items they buy from individual sellers are pre-made. This invention allows an individual to use their own personal holiday or amusement park headgear with a broad brimmed hat or baseball style hat for a uniquely personal experience. The invention also allows individuals to wear different types of holiday or amusement park headgear at different times to suit their changing moods.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

It is the sole object of the present invention to provide a shade-providing hat with manufactured slots to allow for the simultaneous wearing of festive holiday/amusement park headgear thereby providing protection from the sun's UV rays. These vertically placed sewn openings are reinforced with edge stitching that allows them to be unobtrusive, allowing the broad brim hat or baseball style hat to be worn in a traditional manner. The vertical slots are also manufactured to provide positive friction against the ridged band of the holiday or amusement park headgear to ensure that it remains in place on the top of the hat.
