Claims
- 1. A fuel cell power plant comprising:
a fuel cell assembly provided with an inlet fuel stream, an inlet oxidant stream, and an inlet coolant stream, and further having an exhaust oxidant stream and an exhaust coolant stream; a housing chamber that accepts said exhaust coolant stream and exposes said exhaust coolant stream to a first gaseous stream within said housing chamber, said first gaseous stream comprising said exhaust oxidant stream; and a mass and heat recovery device that accepts said first gaseous stream after said first gaseous stream is exposed to said exhaust coolant stream, and that promotes a transfer of thermal energy and moisture from said first gaseous stream to a second gaseous stream.
- 2. The fuel cell power plant of claim 1, wherein:
said fuel cell assembly comprises a high hydrogen utilization fuel cell.
- 3. The fuel cell power plant of claim 2, wherein:
said fuel cell assembly has an exhaust fuel stream, and said first gaseous stream comprises a combination of said exhaust fuel stream and said exhaust oxidant stream.
- 4. The fuel cell power plant of claim 3, wherein:
said exhaust fuel stream and said exhaust oxidant stream merge to form said first gaseous stream in said housing chamber.
- 5. The fuel cell power plant of claim 3, wherein:
said inlet oxidant stream is provided to said mass and heat recovery device prior to being provided to said fuel cell assembly; and said second gaseous stream comprises said inlet oxidant stream.
- 6. The fuel cell power plant of claim 3, wherein:
said housing chamber further comprises a degasifying portion and an accumulator portion.
- 7. The fuel cell power plant of claim 3, comprising:
a catalytic converter that accepts said exhaust fuel stream before said exhaust fuel stream merges with said exhaust oxidant stream.
- 8. The fuel cell power plant of claim 7, comprising:
a nozzle assembly oriented in flow communication with an inlet opening for said exhaust fuel stream, said nozzle assembly injecting a predetermined quantity of moisture into said exhaust fuel stream during operation.
- 9. The fuel cell power plant of claim 2, wherein:
said fuel cell assembly has an exhaust fuel stream that exits to an ambient location.
- 10. The fuel cell power plant of claim 9, wherein:
said inlet oxidant stream is provided to said mass and heat recovery device prior to being provided to said fuel cell assembly; and said second gaseous stream comprises said inlet oxidant stream.
- 11. The fuel cell power plant of claim 10, wherein:
said housing chamber further comprises a degasifying portion and an accumulator portion.
- 12. The fuel cell power plant of claim 9, comprising:
a catalytic converter that accepts said exhaust fuel stream after said exhaust fuel stream exits said fuel cell assembly and before said exhaust fuel stream empties into the ambient location.
