Claims
- 1. A functionalized higher diamondoid having at least one functional group and having following Formula I:
- 2. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1 having one functional group.
- 3. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1 having at least two functional groups.
- 4. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 3 wherein two functional groups are the same.
- 5. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 3 wherein two functional groups are different.
- 6. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1 wherein the functional groups are selected from the group consisting of halo, thio, oxide, hydroxyl, nitro, sulfonylhalide, sulfonate, phosphine, added alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl and aryl, with or without substitution.
- 7. A functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1 which is a higher diamondoid halide wherein at least one R is halo and the remaining R's are hydrogens.
- 8. The higher diamondoid halide of claim 7 wherein the halo is bromo.
- 9. The higher diamondoid halide of claim 7 wherein the halo is chloro.
- 10. The higher diamondoid halide of claim 7 wherein the halo is iodo.
- 11. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1 which is a higher diamondoid hydroxide wherein at least one R is OH and the remaining R's are hydrogens.
- 12. The higher diamondoid hydroxide of claim 11 wherein one R is OH.
- 13. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1 which is a higher diamondoid oxide wherein two R's form an oxide.
- 14. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1 which is a higher diamondoid nitrate.
- 15. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1, wherein at least one of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 is independently selected from the group consisting of haloalkyl; haloalkenyl; haloalkynyl; hydroxyalkyl; heteroaryl; and alkylthio.
- 16. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1, wherein at least one of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 is independently selected from a group consisting of alkoxy; aminoalkyl, aminoalkoxy, heterocycloalkoxy, cycloalkyloxy, aryloxy, and heteroaryloxy.
- 17. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1, wherein at least one of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 is independently selected from the group consisting of —C(O)Z wherein Z is hydrogen, alkyl, halo, haloalkyl, halothio, amino, monosubstituted amino, disubstituted amino, cycloalkyl, aryl, heteroaryl; —CO2Z wherein Z is as defined previously; —R7COZ wherein R7 is alkyl, aminoalkyl, or haloalkyl and Z is as defined previously; —R7COOZ wherein R7 and Z are as defined previously.
- 18. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1, wherein at least one of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 is independently selected from a group consisting of —NH2; —NHNH2;
—NHR′, —NR′R″, and —N+R′R″R′″ wherein R′, R″, and R′″ are independently alkyl, amino, thio, thioalkyl, heteroalkyl, aryl, or heteroaryl; —R8NHCOR9 wherein R8 is selected from the group consisting of —CH2, —OCH2, —NHCH2, —CH2CH2, and —OCH2CH2 and R9 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, aralkyl, and heteroaraylkly; and —R10CONHR11 wherein R10 is selected from the group consisting of —CH2, —OCH2, —NHCH2, —CH2CH2, and —OCH2CH2, and R11 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, aralkyl, and heteroaralkyl.
- 19. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1, wherein at least one of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 is independently selected from the group consisting of
- 20. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1, wherein at least one of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 is independently selected from the group consisting of ═N—Z″, wherein Z″ is hydrogen, —NH2, —OH, alkyl,
- 21. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1, wherein at least one of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 is independently selected from the group consisting of cyano, cyanoalkyl, cyanoaryl, and cyanoalkylamino.
- 22. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1, wherein at least one of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 is independently selected from a group consisting of —NHR′; —NR′R″; —N+R′R″R′″; —NHQ″, aryl; heteroaryl; alkyl; alkenyl; and alkynyl,
- 23. The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1, wherein at least one of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 is independently selected from a group consisting of
—COOR16 wherein R16 is alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl; —COR17 wherein R17 is alkyl, aryl, heteroalkyl; —NHNH2; —R18NHCOR19 wherein R18 is absent, or is selected from the group consisting of alkylene, arylene, alkarylene, and aryalkylene and R19 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, —N2, aryl, amino, and —NHR20 wherein R20 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, —SO2-aryl, —SO2-alkyl, —SO2-aralkyl, —CONHR21 wherein R21 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, and aralkyl, and —CSNHR21 wherein R21 is as defined above; and —COOR22, wherein R22 is alkyl or aryl; and —NR23—(CH2)n—NR24R25 wherein R23, R24, and R25 are independantly selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, and aryl, and n is from 1 to 20.

The functionalized higher diamondoid of claim 1, wherein at least one of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen; —N═C═N—; —N═C═S; —N═C═O; —R—N═C═O, —R—N═C═S; —N═S═O; —R—N═S═O wherein R is alkyl; —PH2; —POX2 wherein X is halo; —PO(OH)2; —SO2H; —SOX wherein X is halo; —SO2R wherein R is alkyl; —SO2OR; —OSO3H wherein R is alkyl; —SONR26R27 wherein R26 and R27 are independently hydrogen or alkyl; and —N3; —OC(O)Cl; and —OC(S)Cl.
