Claims
- 1. A process for the preparation of a compound of formula I ##STR36## wherein R.sup.1 represents a halogen atom or an alkyl group;
- m is an integer of 1, 2, 3 or 4;
- R.sup.2 independently represents a halogen atom or an alkyl or alkoxy group;
- R.sup.3 represents an alkyl or alkenyl group;
- R.sup.4 represents an alkyl group;
- R.sup.5 represents an alkoxy, alkenyloxy, alkynyloxy, alkylthio or cycloalklyoxy group;
- n is an integer of 1 or 2;
- R.sup.6 independently represents an alkoxy group being optionally substituted by phenyl or phenyl being substituted by one or more substituents selected from the group comprising halogen, alkyl, alkoxy and cyano;
- X and Y each represent an oxygen atom, which comprises reacting a compound of formula II ##STR37## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and m are as defined for formula I and Z.sup.1 represents the group COCl, with a compound of formula III ##STR38## wherein R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, Y and n are as defined for formula I and
- Z.sup.2 represents a hydrogen atom, in the presence of FeCl.sub.3 in a 0.001 to 0.2 molar ratio.
- 2. A process according to claim 1, wherein R.sup.1 represents a chlorine atom or a methyl group.
- 3. A process according to claim 1, wherein n is 1.
- 4. A process according to claim 3, wherein R.sup.6 represents a C.sub.1-6 alkoxy group.
- 5. A process according to claim 4, wherein R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 each represent a C.sub.1-4 alkyl group.
- 6. A process according to claim 1, wherein the reaction is carried out at a temperature of 50 to 180.degree. C.
- 7. A process according to claim 1, wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of an inert solvent.
- 8. A process according to claim 7, wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of ethylene chloride, methylene chloride, benzene, octane, decane or a mixture thereof.
