Claims
- 1. The process of preparing a compound of formula VII: ##STR29## wherein: R is each independently halogen; trifluoromethyl; C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl; C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl; C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxy; C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxycarbonyl; amino; aminocarbonyl; aminosulfonyl; C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxysulfonyl; phenyl; phenoxy; phenyl or phenoxy mono- , di- or tri-substituted independently with halogen, trifluoromethyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxy; or benzyl;
- G is CH or N; and
- m is 0,1 or 2:
- comprising
- i) reactively rearranging a compound of formula II ##STR30## wherein: R, G and m are as defined above in the presence of an inert chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent and an organic acid at from 20.degree. C. to 80.degree. C.; and
- ii) isolating the compound of formula VII from the reaction mixture.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein:
- R is halogen; C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy; phenyl; phenoxy; or phenyl or phenoxy mono-substituted with halogen, trifluoromethyl, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl;
- G is CH or N; and
- m is 0 or 1.
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein the inert chlorinated hydrocarbon is dichloromethane and the organic acid is methanesulfonic acid.
