Abstract
A furniture assembly includes a vertical panel configured to vertically extend relative to a working surface once the vertical panel, in use, is positioned on the working surface. A first horizontal panel is fixedly attachable to the vertical panel. A second horizontal panel is fixedly attachable to the vertical panel. The second horizontal panel and the first horizontal panel are spaced apart from each other, one vertically above the other. A first side vertical panel and a second side vertical panel are fixedly attachable to the vertical panel. The first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are fixedly attachable to the first outer edge of the first horizontal panel. The first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are fixedly attachable to the second outer edge of the second horizontal panel.
Description
TECHNICAL FIELD

This document relates to the technical field of (and is not limited to) furniture (and/or a method therefor).


BACKGROUND

Furniture refers to movable objects configured to support various human activities such as seating (e.g., chairs, stools, and sofas), eating (tables), and sleeping (e.g., beds). Furniture is also used to hold objects at a convenient height for work (as horizontal surfaces above the ground, such as tables and desks), or to store things (e.g., cupboards and shelves). Furniture can be made from many materials, including metal, plastic, and wood.


SUMMARY

It will be appreciated that there exists a need to mitigate (at least in part) at least one problem associated with the existing furniture (also called the existing technology). After much study of the known systems and methods with experimentation, an understanding (at least in part) of the problem and its solution has been identified (at least in part) and is articulated (at least in part) as follows:


There is a diverse range of convertible children's furniture available on the market. There are options that allow furniture to be utilized as two different heights for children's chairs, tables, step stools, etc. With more people living, and trying to raise families, in small residences, space comes at a premium. Many families raise children in relatively smaller spaces.


It may not make good sense to have a single-use furniture piece, such as a child's step stool, a table, or a chair, which the child may likely grow out of relatively quickly, may be awkward to store, and may get in the way of other family activities (that is, the furniture may not be easily storable).


To mitigate, at least in part, at least one problem associated with the existing technology, there is provided (in accordance with a major aspect) an apparatus. The apparatus includes and is not limited to (comprising) a furniture assembly. In accordance with an embodiment, the furniture assembly includes, and is not limited to, a vertical panel configured to vertically extend relative to a working surface once the vertical panel, in use, is positioned on the working surface.


In accordance with an embodiment, the furniture assembly further includes (and is not limited to) a first horizontal panel configured to be fixedly attachable to (fixedly attached to) the vertical panel. This is done in such a way that the first horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel once the first horizontal panel is fixedly attached to the vertical panel (in which the first horizontal panel has a first outer edge).


In accordance with an embodiment, the furniture assembly further includes (and is not limited to) a second horizontal panel configured to be fixedly attachable to (fixedly attached to) the vertical panel. This is done in such a way that the second horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel once the second horizontal panel is fixedly attached to the vertical panel, in which the second horizontal panel has a second edge.


In accordance with an embodiment, the furniture assembly is adapted such that the second horizontal panel and the first horizontal panel are spaced apart from each other, one vertically above the other once the first horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel, and once the second horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel.


In accordance with an embodiment, the furniture assembly further includes (and is not limited to) a first side vertical panel.


In accordance with an embodiment, the furniture assembly further includes (and is not limited to) a second side vertical panel.


In accordance with an embodiment, the furniture assembly is further adapted such that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are each configured to be fixedly attachable to the vertical panel. This is done in such a way that (A) the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel extend from a side of the vertical panel, (B) the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are spaced apart from each other, and (C) the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel, in use, face each other (once the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are fixedly attached to the vertical panel).


In accordance with an embodiment, the furniture assembly is further adapted such that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are each configured to be fixedly attachable to the opposite sides (the opposite side edges) of the first horizontal panel. This is done in such a way that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel respectively cover, at least in part, the opposite sides (the opposite side edges) of the first horizontal panel.


In accordance with an embodiment, the furniture assembly is further adapted such that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are each configured to be fixedly attachable to the opposite sides (the opposite side edges) of the second horizontal panel. This is done in such a way that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel respectively cover (at least in part) the opposite sides (the opposite side edges) of the second horizontal panel.


To mitigate, at least in part, at least one problem associated with the existing technology, there is provided (in accordance with a major aspect) a method. The method is for making a furniture assembly. The method includes and is not limited to (comprises) a step for vertically extending a vertical panel relative to a working surface once the vertical panel, in use, is positioned on the working surface.


In accordance with an embodiment, the method further includes and is not limited to (comprises) a step for fixedly attaching a first horizontal panel to the vertical panel. This is done in such a way that the first horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel once the first horizontal panel is fixedly attached to the vertical panel, in which the first horizontal panel has a first outer edge.


In accordance with an embodiment, the method further includes and is not limited to (comprises) a step for fixedly attaching a second horizontal panel to the vertical panel. This is done in such a way that the second horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel (once the second horizontal panel is fixedly attached to the vertical panel, in which the second horizontal panel has a second edge).


In accordance with an embodiment, the method further includes and is not limited to (comprises) a step for spacing apart the second horizontal panel and the first horizontal panel from each other, one vertically above the other (once the first horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel, and once the second horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel).


In accordance with an embodiment, the method further includes and is not limited to (comprises) a step for fixedly attaching a first side vertical panel and a second side vertical panel to the vertical panel in such a way that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel extend from a side of the vertical panel. The first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are spaced apart from each other. The first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel, in use, face each other once the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are fixedly attached to the vertical panel.


In accordance with an embodiment, the method further includes and is not limited to (comprises) a step for fixedly attaching a first side vertical panel and a second side vertical panel to the opposite sides (the opposite side edges) of the first horizontal panel. This is done in such a way that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel respectively cover, at least in part, the opposite sides (the opposite side edges) of the first horizontal panel.


In accordance with an embodiment, the method further includes and is not limited to (comprises) a step for fixedly attaching the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel to the second edge of the second horizontal panel. This is done in such a way that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel respectively cover (at least in part) the opposite sides of the second horizontal panel.

Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the furniture assembly 102 includes a synergistic combination of elements (panels, etc.).


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the furniture assembly 102 includes a vertical panel 104 configured to vertically extend relative to (that is, to extend away vertically upward from) a working surface 900 once the vertical panel 104, in use, is positioned on the working surface 900.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the furniture assembly 102 further includes a first horizontal panel 106 configured to be fixedly attachable to (fixedly attached to) the vertical panel 104. This is done in such a way that the first horizontal panel 106 extends horizontally from the vertical panel 104 once the first horizontal panel 106 is fixedly attached to the vertical panel 104, in which the first horizontal panel 106 has a first outer edge 107 (as depicted in the embodiments of FIG. 5 and FIG. 6).


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the furniture assembly 102 further includes a second horizontal panel 108 configured to be fixedly attachable to (fixedly attached to) the vertical panel 104. Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the furniture assembly 102 is adapted such that the second horizontal panel 108 and the first horizontal panel 106 are configured to be spaced apart from each other, one vertically above the other once the first horizontal panel 106 extends horizontally from the vertical panel 104, and once the second horizontal panel 108 extends horizontally from the vertical panel 104.


The furniture assembly 102 further includes a first side vertical panel 110 and a second side vertical panel 112.


The furniture assembly 102 is further adapted such that the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are configured to be fixedly attachable to (fixedly attached to) the vertical panel 104. This is done in such a way that the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 extend from a side of the vertical panel 104. This is also done in such a way that the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are spaced apart from each other. This is also done in such a way that the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 face each other once the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are fixedly attached to the vertical panel 104.

Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1, FIG. 2, FIG. 5 and FIG. 6, the furniture assembly 102 is further adapted such that the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are each configured to be fixedly attachable to (fixedly attached to) the opposite sides (the opposite side edges, such as the second outer edge 109) of the second horizontal panel 108. This is done in such a way that the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 respectively cover (at least in part) the opposite sides of the second horizontal panel 108.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the furniture assembly 102 includes panels (panel sections), such as the vertical panel 104 (also called a front panel), the first horizontal panel 106 (also called a short panel, a chair panel, a step panel, and any equivalent thereof), the second horizontal panel 108 (also called a long panel, a chair panel, a step panel (and any equivalent thereof), the first side vertical panel 110 (also called a first side panel and any equivalent thereof), and the second side vertical panel 112 (also called a second side panel and any equivalent thereof).


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the vertical panel 104 (the front panel) is configured to provide (serve) as a chair backing surface for the case where the first horizontal panel 106 is utilized by a child as a seating surface, and/or by an adult as a seating surface.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the vertical panel 104 (the front panel) is configured to provide (serve) as a table top surface for the case where the furniture assembly 102 is rotated 90 (ninety) degrees so that the vertical panel 104 (the front panel) is oriented to face vertically upwardly, and the outer surface of the vertical panel 104 is aligned horizontally (that is, for this case, the first spaced-apart extension portions 210 and the second spaced-apart extension portions 212 (or the legs) face downwardly toward a working surface or the ground).


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the first horizontal panel 106 (the short panel) is configured to provide (serve) as a top step, or a short chair for the case where the furniture assembly 102 is oriented with the first horizontal panel 106 (the short panel) positioned directly above the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel).


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the furniture assembly 102 is made of wood, and/or wooden sheet-goods, and/or is made as a single piece or as multiple pieces made from formed plastic and/or metal components, or from injection molded plastic, etc.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the furniture assembly 102 is configured to be inverted (turned upside down) or changeable for the relative positioning of the second horizontal panel 108 (long panel) and the first horizontal panel 106 (the short panel) to give more variation in height between the different seating modes. It will be appreciated that this may be arranged at the expense of snugness of fit when nested (as depicted in the embodiments of FIG. 17 and FIG. 18), and may impact the ergonomics of the functionality of the furniture assembly 102 (such as, a step stool, etc.).


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, and in accordance with a preferred embodiment, the furniture assembly 102 includes a connector (known and not depicted), a set of fasteners (e.g., a snap connector, a magnetic connector, a hook and loop connector, etc., and any equivalent thereof) positioned on a top and a bottom of an internal side of the vertical panel 104 (the front panel). The connectors (fasteners) are configured to allow interchangeable faceplates (known and not depicted) to be mounted on the vertical panel 104 (the front panel). The faceplates are utilized for a variety of aesthetic and functional purposes, such as (A) easily changeable graphic designs to cater to the changing whims of children and/or adults, (B) a padded upholstered panel to increase comfort when used as a sitting stool and/or an ottoman, and (C) activity centered faceplates, such as a magnet board, a white board, a chalkboard, a steering wheel, etc., and any equivalent thereof. In accordance with an option, fasteners are configured to selectively attach interchangeable covers (such as, for the children seats), for stylistic changes and ease of cleaning, etc. In accordance with a preferred option, a door panel is included in a space between the first horizontal panel 106 (the top seat) and the second horizontal panel 108 (the bottom seat) to create a storage area for flexible activity faceplates or other small items (such as, toys, bibs, wipes, etc.). In accordance with a preferred option, a strap is included to allow safer usage (such as for a booster chair). In accordance with a preferred option, there is included a pull-out panel and/or a flip-up panel to extend the height of the vertical panel 104 (when utilized as a backrest for a child seat configuration).


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are configured to be aligned parallel to each other (that is, the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are configured to be aligned on parallel planes) once the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are mounted (and affixed) to the vertical panel 104 in such a way that the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are spaced apart from each other (once mounted to, and extending from, the vertical panel 104), and the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are aligned orthogonally from the vertical panel 104.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are configured to be aligned along a vertical direction once the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are mounted (affixed) to the vertical panel 104 in such a way that the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are spaced apart from each other (once mounted to, and extending from, the vertical panel 104). The first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are configured to extend from the same side of the vertical panel 104 once the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are mounted (affixed) to the vertical panel 104. The first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are configured to extend from the opposite lateral edge sides of the vertical panel 104 once the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are mounted (affixed) to the vertical panel 104 in such a way that the vertical panel 104 extends between the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 are configured to be aligned parallel to each other (that is, the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 are configured to be aligned on parallel planes) once the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 are mounted (and affixed) to the vertical panel 104 in such a way that the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 are spaced apart from each other (once mounted to, and extending from, the vertical panel 104), and the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 are aligned orthogonally from the vertical panel 104.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 are configured to be aligned along a horizontal direction once the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 are mounted (affixed) to the vertical panel 104 in such a way that the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 are spaced apart from each other (once mounted to, and extending from, the vertical panel 104).


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 are configured to extend from the same side of the vertical panel 104 once the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 are mounted (affixed) to the vertical panel 104.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 are configured to be spaced apart from the opposite lateral edge sides of the vertical panel 104 once the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 are mounted (and affixed) to the vertical panel 104 in such a way that the vertical panel 104 extends between the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the first horizontal panel 106, the second horizontal panel 108, the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are configured to extend from the same side of the vertical panel 104 once the first horizontal panel 106, the second horizontal panel 108, the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are mounted (and affixed) to the vertical panel 104.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 are aligned orthogonally from the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 once the first horizontal panel 106, the second horizontal panel 108, the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 are mounted (and affixed) to the vertical panel 104. The first horizontal panel 106 extends between the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 once the first horizontal panel 106 is mounted (and affixed) to the vertical panel 104.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the second horizontal panel 108 extends between the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 once the second horizontal panel 108 is mounted (and affixed) to the vertical panel 104.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 have equal lateral lengths. The first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 each extend from the vertical panel 104. Preferably, an entire lateral side edge section (sections) of the first horizontal panel 106 are affixed to (mounted to) a portion of the first side vertical panel 110 and to a portion of the second side vertical panel 112. A relatively smaller length of an entire opposite lateral side edge section (sections) of the second horizontal panel 108 are affixed to (mounted to) a portion of the first side vertical panel 110 and to a portion of the second side vertical panel 112. It will be appreciated that the length of the edges of the first horizontal panel 106 (that is, the first outer edge 107) do not need to be equal to the length of the edges of the second horizontal panel 108 (and are not depicted as being equal in the FIGS.). The right and left edges of the first horizontal panel 106 are equal in length, and the right and left edges of the second horizontal panel 108 are equal in length (and the first horizontal panel 106 and the second horizontal panel 108 do not need to be the same length). In a accordance with an option, an asymmetrical version may be manufactured without impacting functionality.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the first side vertical panel 110 has (includes) first spaced-apart extension portions 210 (also called spaced-apart planar portions) that extend away from the vertical panel 104. A gap is formed between a portion of the second horizontal panel 108 and the first spaced-apart extension portions 210 that extend from the first side vertical panel 110.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the second side vertical panel 112 has (includes) second spaced-apart extension portions 212 (also called spaced-apart planar portions) that extend away from the vertical panel 104.

Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 5 and FIG. 6, the first horizontal panel 106 has a first outer edge 107, and the second horizontal panel 108 has a second outer edge 109. A portion of the opposite lateral edge portions of the second outer edge 109 is exposed by (defined by) the first formation (such as, a first V-shaped formation, a groove, etc.) of the first side vertical panel 110 and exposed by (defined by) the second formation (such as a second V-shaped formation, a groove, etc.) of the second side vertical panel 112. The first outer edge 107 of the first horizontal panel 106 is bounded by the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112. The first V-shaped formation of the first side vertical panel 110 and the second V-shaped formation of the second side vertical panel 112 each includes parallel extending linear sections (planar sections) extending along a vertical orientation.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 5 and FIG. 6, the second horizontal panel 108 is longer in length than the first horizontal panel 106. The first spaced-apart extension portions 210 meet with the first side vertical panel 110 to form a first V-shaped formation 214 (also called legs).


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 5 and FIG. 6, a portion of the opposite lateral edge sections of the second horizontal panel 108 is exposed by the first V-shaped formation 214 of the first side vertical panel 110. The second spaced-apart extension portions 212 meet with the second side vertical panel 112 to form a second V-shaped formation 216 (also called legs). A portion of the opposite lateral edge sections of the second horizontal panel 108 is exposed by the second V-shaped formation 216 of the first side vertical panel 110.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 5 and FIG. 6, the first V-shaped formation 214 and the second V-shaped formation 216 (also called the cut outs, which is formed by the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112) extend as deep and as the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel). It will be appreciated that this arrangement is not strictly functionally necessary. The first V-shaped formation 214 and the second V-shaped formation 216 (also called the cut outs) only need to extend as far as the first horizontal panel 106 (the short panel) for the case where the furniture assembly 102 is positioned in a nested condition (as depicted in FIG. 17 and FIG. 18).


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 5 and FIG. 6, it will be appreciated that there are alternate configurations that may provide similar functionality, such as (A) the elimination of the first V-shaped formation 214 and the second V-shaped formation 216 (the side cut outs), (B) a modification of the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel) forms (includes) a two-piece configuration, in which one piece is configured to slide to reduce its length so as to not interfere when the furniture assembly 102 is being nested (as depicted in the embodiments of FIG. 17 and FIG. 18), (C) a redesign of the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel) to take up only half the width of the interior so as not to interfere when the furniture assembly 102 is being nested (as depicted in the embodiments of FIG. 17 and FIG. 18), (D) the addition of slots to the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel) and the first horizontal panel 106 (the short panel) to allow for the nesting of two units (as depicted in the embodiments of FIG. 17 and FIG. 18) in an end-to-end relationship with one unit (of the furniture assembly 102) rotated 90 degrees instead of 180 degrees, (E) the tapering of the first side vertical panel 110 and/or the second side vertical panel 112 (the side panels), (F) the addition (formation) of a slot in the vertical panel 104 (the front panel) to allow the tongue of the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel) to be inserted, so that the instances of the furniture assembly 102 may be placed in a stacked relationship rather than a nested relationship, and (G) a change of the shape of the first V-shaped formation 214 and/or the second V-shaped formation 216 (also called the cut outs) formed in the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 (the side panels) so that the first V-shaped formation 214 and/or the second V-shaped formation 216 are slots that accept the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel) for a full width of the furniture assembly 102.

Referring to the embodiment as depicted in FIG. 7, the second horizontal panel 108 is attached to the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 by a tongue and groove connection (formation). It will be appreciated that glue and/or connectors may be utilized to affix the second horizontal panel 108 to the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112. The first horizontal panel 106 is attached to the first side vertical panel 110 and the second side vertical panel 112 by a tongue and groove connection (formation). Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 12 and FIG. 13, the furniture assembly 102 is configured to be usable by children and/or adults (even after children have outgrown the child-oriented aspects of the furniture assembly 102). In accordance with an embodiment, there is provided a furniture assembly 102 configured to be, depending on the orientation of the furniture, usable as a child's step stool, chair, booster chair, table, or a stool for adult seating, an ottoman, a footstool, and/or a side table, etc.


In accordance with an embodiment, there is provided a furniture assembly 102 (furniture unit or furniture piece) configured to be utilized as adult seating, child seating (for two predetermined seating heights), a children's table or desk, a step stool, ottoman, a side table, and/or multiple instances of the furniture assembly 102 to be stored in a compact space.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 12 and FIG. 13, the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel) is configured to provide (serve) as a bottom step, a footrest, a low children's chair for the case where the furniture assembly 102 is oriented with the first horizontal panel 106 (the short panel) positioned above the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel). For the case where the furniture assembly 102 is turned 180 degrees, the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel) is configured to provide (serve) as a higher children's chair. For the case where the furniture assembly 102 is oriented with the first horizontal panel 106 (the short panel) positioned above the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel), the furniture assembly 102 is usable as a step stool, a child's chair with a footrest, and/or a child's chair. For the case where the furniture assembly 102 is rotated 180 degrees and oriented with the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel) positioned above the first horizontal panel 106 (the short panel), the furniture assembly 102 is usable as a high children's chair with more depth. For the case where the furniture assembly 102 is rotated 90 degrees so that the vertical panel 104 (the front panel) is facing upwards, the furniture assembly 102 is usable as seating for an adult, a children's table/desk, a side table, or an ottoman, etc.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 12 and FIG. 13, the first side vertical panel 110 (the first side panel) and the second side vertical panel 112 (the second side panel) are configured to provide (serve) (A) a support for the first horizontal panel 106 (the short panel) and/or the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel), (B) an arm rest (for the case where the furniture assembly 102 is utilized as a child's chair), (C) a railing (for the case where the furniture assembly 102 is utilized as a step stool), and/or (D) a leg (for the case where the furniture assembly 102 is utilized as an adult stool or a table).

Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 14-FIG. 16, the furniture assembly 102 is configured in such a way that two units of the furniture assembly 102 are nestable (at least in part) on an end-to-end arrangement, once one unit of the furniture assembly 102 is turned upside down relative to the other unit of the furniture assembly 102. The two units of the furniture assembly 102 are configured to be merged (at least in part) within each other so that the storage space required for storage of the two units of the furniture assembly 102 is reduced (at least in part).


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 14-FIG. 16, a first furniture assembly 102A is a replica of the furniture assembly 102, and includes the same components as the furniture assembly 102. A second furniture assembly 102B is a replica of the furniture assembly 102, and includes the same components as the furniture assembly 102. The corresponding components of the first furniture assembly 102A and the second furniture assembly 102B have similar reference numerals as the furniture assembly 102 (and these reference numerals include the suffix “A” and “B” where noted in the drawings).


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 14-FIG. 16, the first furniture assembly 102A and the second furniture assembly 102B are configured to be arranged to form a storage form factor in such a way that the first furniture assembly 102A and the second furniture assembly 102B are storable in a space that is slightly larger than the first furniture assembly 102A or the second furniture assembly 102B.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 14-FIG. 16, the first furniture assembly 102A and the second furniture assembly 102B are pushed towards each other along the direction 902 and the direction 904 (with the vertical panel 104A and the vertical panel 104B spaced apart from each other), and the first furniture assembly 102A and the second furniture assembly 102B are nestable (insertable), at least in part, or mergeable (at least in part) within each other.


In accordance with an embodiment, the first furniture assembly 102A and the second furniture assembly 102B are insertable (or positionable inside), at least in part, with each other (one within, at least in part, the other).


In accordance with an embodiment, the furniture assembly 102 is configured to be convertible and stackable, may also serve as adult seating or a step stool and/or is readily storable in a relatively smaller storage space.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 14-FIG. 16, the furniture assembly 102 is configured to be nestable (one furniture unit fitting within another furniture unit). In accordance with an embodiment, instances of the furniture assembly 102 are configured to be nestable (such as the first furniture assembly 102A fitting within the second furniture assembly 102B), and to take relatively less space to store the nested units of furniture). In accordance with an embodiment, the furniture assembly 102 is configured to be convertible (multifunctional) and/or nestable, and/or usable by both adults and children. The first furniture assembly 102A and the second furniture assembly 102B are configured to nest together in an end-to-end relationship, and/or to fit the first furniture assembly 102A into (at least in part) the second furniture assembly 102B. This arrangement may allow two furniture units to be stored in a compact and out-of-the-way space. In accordance with an embodiment, the furniture assembly 102 (also called a furniture unit, a furniture piece and any equivalent thereof) is configured to be usable by adults and/or children in multiple arrangements (ways). In accordance with an embodiment, it is relatively easier to store multiple instances of the furniture assembly 102 in such a way that the furniture assembly 102 is relatively easily accessible (by either child or adult) for use when desired.



FIG. 17 and FIG. 18 depict a cross-sectional view (FIG. 17, taken along a cross-sectional line A-A of FIG. 16) and a side view (FIG. 18) of embodiments of the furniture assembly 102 of FIG. 1.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 17 and FIG. 18, the first horizontal panel 106A and the second horizontal panel 108A of the first furniture assembly 102A are interlaced between the first horizontal panel 106B and the second horizontal panel 108B of the second furniture assembly 102B (positioned one over the other) once the first furniture assembly 102A and the second furniture assembly 102B are nested with each other in a non-contact arrangement (a spaced apart arrangement). The first side vertical panel 110 (the first side panel) and the second side vertical panel 112 (the second side panel) have a cut out to allow the first horizontal panel 106 (the short panel) of one instance of the furniture assembly 102 to slide between the first side vertical panel 110 (the side panel) and the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel) of another instance of the furniture assembly 102, for the case where the instances of the furniture assembly 102 are nested in an end-to-end relationship.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1, FIG. 2, FIG. 17 and FIG. 18, the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel) is configured to narrow (taper) towards an outside edge of the second horizontal panel 108 to allow the first side vertical panel 110 or the second side vertical panel 112 (the side panel) of one unit to slide between the long panel and the side panel of another unit when nested end to end.


Referring to the embodiments as depicted in FIG. 1, FIG. 2, FIG. 17 and FIG. 18, the first V-shaped formation 214 (the cut out) is configured to allow the second horizontal panel 108 (the long panel) of the first furniture assembly 102A to slide under the first side vertical panel 110B (the side panel) of the second furniture assembly 102B when nested in an end-to-end relationship. It will be appreciated that the first furniture assembly 102A and the second furniture assembly 102B are configured to be nested in an end-to-end relationship when the first furniture assembly 102A is turned upside down. It will be appreciated that the first furniture assembly 102A and the second furniture assembly 102B are configured to be nested together by orienting the bottoms of the second spaced-apart extension portions 212A (the legs) to be facing one another, turning the second furniture assembly 102B upside down, and offsetting the first furniture assembly 102A and the second furniture assembly 102B by the thickness of the construction material so the first side vertical panel 110A and the second side vertical panel 112A (the side panels) may be made to slide next to one another, etc.


It will be appreciated that the second side vertical panel 112B is associated with the second furniture assembly 102B. It will be appreciated that the second side vertical panel 112A is associated with the first furniture assembly 102A, etc. It is understood that the corresponding components of the first furniture assembly 102A and the second furniture assembly 102B have similar reference numerals as the furniture assembly 102 (and these reference numerals include the suffix “A” and “B” where noted in the drawings and this description).

Claims
  • 1. An apparatus, comprising: a furniture assembly, including: a vertical panel being configured to vertically extend; anda first horizontal panel being configured to be fixedly attachable to the vertical panel; anda second horizontal panel being configured to be fixedly attachable to the vertical panel, and the second horizontal panel and the first horizontal panel each being configured to be spaced apart from each other, one vertically above the other; anda first side vertical panel; anda second side vertical panel; andthe first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel each being configured to be fixedly attachable to the vertical panel in such a way that: the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel extend from a side of the vertical panel; andthe first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are spaced apart from each other; andthe first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel, in use, face each other once the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are fixedly attached to the vertical panel; andthe first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel each being configured to be fixedly attachable to the first horizontal panel in such a way that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel respectively cover, at least in part, opposite sides of the first horizontal panel; andthe first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel each being configured to be fixedly attachable to the second horizontal panel in such a way that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel respectively cover, at least in part, opposite sides of the second horizontal panel.
  • 2. An apparatus, comprising: a furniture assembly, including: a vertical panel being configured to vertically extend relative to a working surface once the vertical panel, in use, is positioned on the working surface; anda first horizontal panel being configured to be fixedly attachable to the vertical panel in such a way that the first horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel once the first horizontal panel is fixedly attached to the vertical panel, in which the first horizontal panel has a first outer edge; anda second horizontal panel being configured to be fixedly attachable to the vertical panel in such a way that the second horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel once the second horizontal panel is fixedly attached to the vertical panel, in which the second horizontal panel has a second outer edge; andthe second horizontal panel and the first horizontal panel each being configured to be spaced apart from each other, one vertically above the other once the first horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel, and once the second horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel; anda first side vertical panel; anda second side vertical panel; andthe first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel each being configured to be fixedly attachable to the vertical panel in such a way that: the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel extend from a side of the vertical panel; andthe first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are spaced apart from each other; andthe first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel, in use, face each other once the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are fixedly attached to the vertical panel; andthe first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel each being configured to be fixedly attachable to the first outer edge of the first horizontal panel in such a way that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel respectively cover, at least in part, opposite sides of the first horizontal panel; andthe first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel each being configured to be fixedly attachable to the second outer edge of the second horizontal panel in such a way that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel respectively cover, at least in part, opposite sides of the second horizontal panel.
  • 3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: the vertical panel is configured to provide a chair backing surface; andthe vertical panel is configured to provide a table top surface; andthe first horizontal panel is configured to provide a step.
  • 4. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are configured to be aligned parallel to each other once the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are mounted and affixed to the vertical panel in such a way that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are spaced apart from each other; andthe first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are aligned orthogonally from the vertical panel.
  • 5. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are configured to be aligned along a vertical direction once the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are mounted and affixed to the vertical panel in such a way that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are spaced apart from each other once mounted to, and extending from, the vertical panel.
  • 6. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are configured to extend from the same side of the vertical panel once the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are mounted and affixed to the vertical panel; andthe first horizontal panel and the second horizontal panel are configured to extend from the same side of the vertical panel once the first horizontal panel and the second horizontal panel are mounted and affixed to the vertical panel.
  • 7. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: the vertical panel includes opposite lateral edge sides; andthe first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are configured to extend from the opposite lateral edge sides of the vertical panel once the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are mounted and affixed to the vertical panel in such a way that the vertical panel extends between the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel.
  • 8. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: the first horizontal panel and the second horizontal panel are configured to be aligned parallel to each other once the first horizontal panel and the second horizontal panel are mounted and affixed to the vertical panel in such a way that the first horizontal panel and the second horizontal panel are spaced apart from each other once mounted to, and extending from, the vertical panel; andthe first horizontal panel and the second horizontal panel are aligned orthogonally from the vertical panel.
  • 9. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: the first horizontal panel and the second horizontal panel are configured to be aligned along a horizontal direction once the first horizontal panel and the second horizontal panel are mounted and affixed to the vertical panel in such a way that the first horizontal panel and the second horizontal panel are spaced apart from each other once mounted to, and extending from, the vertical panel; andthe vertical panel includes opposite lateral edge sides; andthe first horizontal panel and the second horizontal panel are configured to be spaced apart from the opposite lateral edge sides of the vertical panel once the first horizontal panel and the second horizontal panel are mounted and affixed to the vertical panel in such a way that the vertical panel extends between the first horizontal panel and the second horizontal panel.
  • 10. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: the first horizontal panel, the second horizontal panel, the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are configured to extend from the same side of the vertical panel once the first horizontal panel, the second horizontal panel, the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are mounted, and affixed, to the vertical panel.
  • 11. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: the first horizontal panel and the second horizontal panel are aligned orthogonally from the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel once the first horizontal panel, the second horizontal panel, the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are mounted and affixed to the vertical panel; andthe first horizontal panel extends between the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel once the first horizontal panel is mounted and affixed to the vertical panel; andthe second horizontal panel extends between the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel once the second horizontal panel is mounted and affixed to the vertical panel.
  • 12. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: an entire lateral side edge section of the first horizontal panel is affixed to and mounted to a portion of the first side vertical panel and to a portion of the second side vertical panel; anda relatively smaller length of an entire opposite lateral side edge section of the second horizontal panel is affixed to and mounted to a portion of the first side vertical panel and to a portion of the second side vertical panel.
  • 13. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: the first side vertical panel has first spaced-apart extension portions extending away from the vertical panel; anda gap is formed between a portion of the second horizontal panel and the first spaced-apart extension portions that extend from the first side vertical panel; andthe second side vertical panel includes second spaced-apart extension portions; andthe second spaced-apart extension portions extend away from the vertical panel.
  • 14. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: the first outer edge of the first horizontal panel is bounded by the first side vertical panel and by the second side vertical panel.
  • 15. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: the second outer edge includes opposite lateral edge portions; anda portion of the opposite lateral edge portions of the second outer edge is exposed by a first V-shaped formation of the first side vertical panel and a second V-shaped formation of the second side vertical panel.
  • 16. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: a first V-shaped formation of the first side vertical panel and a second V-shaped formation of the second side vertical panel each includes parallel extending sections.
  • 17. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: the furniture assembly is configured in such a way that two units of the furniture assembly are nestable, at least in part, in an end-to-end arrangement, once one unit of the furniture assembly is turned upside down relative to another unit of the furniture assembly; andthe two units of the furniture assembly are configured to be merged, at least in part, within each other.
  • 18. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein: the second horizontal panel includes opposite lateral edge sections; anda portion of the opposite lateral edge sections of the second horizontal panel is exposed by a first V-shaped formation of the first side vertical panel; andsecond spaced-apart extension portions meet with the second side vertical panel to form a second V-shaped formation; anda portion of the opposite lateral edge sections of the second horizontal panel is exposed by the second V-shaped formation of the first side vertical panel.
  • 19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein: the first V-shaped formation is configured to allow the second horizontal panel of a first furniture assembly to slide under the first side vertical panel of a second furniture assembly when nested in an end-to-end relationship.
  • 20. A method for making a furniture assembly, and the method comprising: vertically extending a vertical panel relative to a working surface once the vertical panel, in use, is positioned on the working surface; andfixedly attaching a first horizontal panel to the vertical panel in such a way that the first horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel once the first horizontal panel is fixedly attached to the vertical panel, in which the first horizontal panel has a first outer edge; andfixedly attaching a second horizontal panel to the vertical panel in such a way that the second horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel once the second horizontal panel is fixedly attached to the vertical panel, in which the second horizontal panel has a second outer edge; andspacing apart the second horizontal panel and the first horizontal panel from each other, one vertically above the other once the first horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel, and once the second horizontal panel extends horizontally from the vertical panel; andfixedly attaching a first side vertical panel and a second side vertical panel to the vertical panel in such a way that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel extend from a side of the vertical panel, the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are spaced apart from each other, and the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel face each other once the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel are fixedly attached to the vertical panel; andfixedly attaching the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel to the first outer edge of the first horizontal panel in such a way that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel respectively cover, at least in part, opposite sides of the first horizontal panel; andfixedly attaching the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel to the second outer edge of the second horizontal panel in such a way that the first side vertical panel and the second side vertical panel respectively cover, at least in part, opposite sides of the second horizontal panel.
