Claims
- 1. A furniture assembly comprising: frame means including a plurality of metal slats for supporting coil springs, a plurality of coil springs with each including a tail portion, a plurality of spring retainer means disposed in said slats, each of said retainer means including an aperture and an upset portion disposed about said aperture, a tail portion of a coil spring disposed in said aperture, said aperture being sufficiently large to allow said tail to be withdrawn therefrom.
- 2. An assembly as set forth in claim 1 wherein said spring includes a radially extending support portion interconnecting the bottom coil of the spring and said tail, and said upset portion includes a groove receiving and positioning said radially extending support portion of said spring.
- 3. An assembly as set forth in claim 2 wherein said upset portion comprises a rounded ridge extending about said aperture.
- 4. An assembly as set forth in claim 1 including die means for flattening said upset portion to force the periphery of said aperture into gripping engagement with said tail of said spring.
- 5. A furniture assembly comprising: a coil spring with a bottom coil; an axially extending tail and a radially extending support portion interconnecting said bottom coil and said tail; a metal support member having an aperture therein; said tail being disposed in said aperture; the periphery of said aperture being in gripping engagement with said tail for retaining said tail therein; said support member being flat and planar about said aperture; said support member having stresses therein about said aperture as a result of flattening an upset portion about the aperture to reduce the periphery of the aperture into gripping engagement with the tail.
