Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula (1) ##STR29## R.sup.1 is H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, or phenyl optionally substituted with halo, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkoxy, halo (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkyl, or halo (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkoxy;
- R.sup.2 is H, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkyl, nitro, halo; or
- R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 combine to form --(CH.sub.2).sub.4 --;

- R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 are independently (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkyl, (C.sub.3 -C.sub.4) branched alkyl, phenyl, or substituted phenyl, and said hydrocarbon chain being optionally substituted with halo, hydroxy, or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkanoyl; or

- (d) a thienyl group of the formula (4) ##STR32## where R.sup.19 is R.sup.18 as defined in paragraph (c) or thienyl; (e) a group of formula (5) or (6) ##STR33## where R.sup.18 is as defined in paragraph (c), J is N or CH, and G is O, NR.sup.20, or S, provided that if J is not N then G is NR.sup.20, where R.sup.20 is H, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkanoyl, phenylsulfonyl, or substituted phenylsulfonyl;
- (f) a group selected from
- naphthyl, dihydronaphthyl, tetrahydronaphthyl, and decahydronaphthyl;
- pyridyl;
- indolyl;
- 1. 3-benzodioxolyl;
- 2,6-dimethyl-4-morpholinyl; and
- 1-adamantyl;
- or an acid addition salt of a compound of formula (1);
- where, in the foregoing definitions, the terms substituted phenyl, substituted phenoxy, substituted phenylthio and substituted phenylsulfonyl, refer to such groups wherein the phenyl ring is substituted with up to three groups selected from halo, I, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.10) alkyl, branched (C.sub.3 -C.sub.6) alkyl, halo (C.sub.1 -C.sub.7) alkyl, hydroxy (C.sub.1 -C.sub.7) alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.7) alkoxy, halo (C.sub.1 -C.sub.7) alkoxy, phenoxy, substituted phenoxy, phenyl, substituted phenyl, NO.sub.2, OH, CN, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkanoyloxy, or benzyloxy, provided that no substituted phenyl, phenoxy, phenylthio, or phenyl sulfonyl group includes more than three phenyl rings.

- a C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon chain, straight chain or branched optionally including a hereto atom selected from O, S, SO, SO.sub.2, NR.sup.4, or SiR.sup.7 R.sup.8 in place of one of the carbon atoms, where R.sup.4, R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 are as defined above, and optionally substituted with halo, halo (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkoxy, hydroxy, (C.sub.3 -C.sub.8) cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkanoyl, phenoxy, substituted phenoxy, phenyl, substituted phenyl, phenylthio, or substituted phenylthio;
- (C.sub.1 -C.sub.7) alkoxy optionally substituted with halo, phenyl, substituted phenyl, (C.sub.3 -C.sub.8) cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl, phenoxy, or substituted phenoxy,
- (C.sub.1 -C.sub.7) alkylthio optionally substituted with halo, phenyl, substituted phenyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.8) cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl, phenoxy, or substituted phenoxy; or
- R.sup.10 and R.sup.11 combine to form --O--CF.sub.2 --O-- or --O(CH.sub.2)--O--;
- where, in the foregoing definitions, the terms substituted phenyl, substituted phenoxy, substituted phenylthio and substituted phenylsulfonyl, refer to such groups wherein the phenyl ring is substituted with up to three groups selected from halo, I, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.10) alkyl, branched (C.sub.3 -C.sub.6) alkyl, halo (C.sub.1 -C.sub.7) alkyl, hydroxy (C.sub.1 -C.sub.7) alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.7) alkoxy, halo (C.sub.1 -C.sub.7) alkoxy, phenoxy, substituted phenoxy, phenyl substituted phenyl, NO.sub.2, OH, CN, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkanoyloxy, or benzyloxy, provided that no substituted phenyl, phenoxy, phenylthio, or phenyl sulfonyl group includes more than three phenyl rings.
