Claims
- 1. A fuse element comprising a cylindrical casing with a front end and a rear end, in which at least one ignition charge and a delay section composed of at least two delay charges are arranged in layers one behind the other, wherein the front end of the casing provides a detonating or flame-producing outlet, characterized in that a relay charge which is located between the ignition charge and the delay section ignites a first delay charge of the at least two delay charges of the delay section, a central portion of the relay charge extending into the first delay charge.
- 2. A fuse element according to claim 1, characterized in that the ignition charge for igniting the delay section is comprised of a material providing a gradually or slowly burning ignition charge.
- 3. A fuse element according to claim 1, characterized in that at least a part of the surfaces of the charges forming a transition zone between the relay charge igniting the delay section and the first delay charge of the at least two delay charges, each have the shape of a spherical segment.
- 4. A fuse element according to claim 1, characterized in that said delay section has several delay charges and a central zone of at least the first delay charge projects into a second delay charge arranged in series.
- 5. A fuse element according to claim 1, characterized in that the cylindrical casing has an inlet opening at the rear end containing the ignition charge and an outlet opening at the front end containing a detonative or flash-yielding charge which is ignited by the delay section.
- 6. A fuse element according to claim 1, characterized in that the cylindrical casing has a closed foil-like central zone integrally formed at the rear end containing the ignition charge and an outlet opening covered by a separate foil at the front end containing a detonative or flash-yielding charge.
- 7. A fuse element according to claim 1, characterized in that at least a part of the charge surfaces forming a transition zone between the relay charge igniting the delay section and the first delay charge are approximately conical in shape.
- 8. A fuse element according to claim 7, characterized in that a forward central region of a surface forming the transition zone is approximately rounded spherically.
- 9. A fuse element according to claim 1, characterized in that at least one more relay charge is disposed between the ignition charge and the relay charge that extends into the first delay charge and the relay charges are composed of components such that the discontinuities in the characteristic values, including reaction speed, become smaller at boundary surfaces of the ignition charge, the relay charges and the delay charge; said charges being pressed together.
- 10. A fuse element according to claim 1 or 9, characterized in that at least the first delay charge extends with its central portion into a successively arranged delay charge within the casing.
- 11. A fuse element which comprises a cylindrical casing and a cylindrical-symmetric arrangement of charges located in layers and in series within said casing, said arrangement of charges comprising an igniter charge, a relay charge, a delay section made up of a plurality of delay charges and a detonative or flash-yielding charge, each of the charges being in intimate and direct contact with at least one other charge, a central region of the relay charge projecting into a first delay charge of the plurality of delay charges; a curved interface extending between the delay section and the relay charge igniting the delay section, said interface extending across the entire cross section of the arrangement of charges located within said casing.
- 12. A fuse element according to claim 11, wherein said curved interface is provided by the central region of the relay charge which is approximately rounded spherically and a peripherally arranged region which is approximately conical in shape.

This application is a divisional application of application Ser. No. 553,302, filed Jul. 17, 1990, which issued as U.S. Pat. No. 5,054,396 and which is a continuation-in-part of U.S. patent application Ser. No. 293,470, entitled "Fuse Element, Preferably With Long Delay Period", filed Jan. 4, 1989 (now abandoned). (The aforementioned application is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.)
