This invention relates to a game involving game pieces that are spheres, globes, marbles, cubes, cones, and/or polyhedrons all of which will be herein generally referred to as sphere or capsule, which encapsulate a visibly recognizable figure that has a distinct identity. Each identity has a predetermined set of abilities and points that are used strategically in the game in a specified field of play. The game involves skill in manipulating the game piece, strategy in determining which game piece to manipulate during a turn for a beneficial outcome, and luck which involves a random element of chance, such as a roll of a die, to determine the outcome of an end result of the manipulation of a game piece.
The sphere includes an internally embedded readily recognizable figure and/or characteristics which may be representative of fanciful characters, mythical characters, comic book characters, actual individuals living or deceased, actual sports persons, generic sports players, famous persons, well known personalities, recognizable individuals, movie stars, cinematic characters, creatures, powers, abilities, magic spells, cures, nullifiers, apparatus, devices, weapons, bombs, or land mines, all of which will be herein generally referred to as figure.
Games with marbles such as Chinese checkers and games involving the shooting of marbles against each other to manipulate the opponent's position are old and well known and it is extremely well known for marbles to have colorful swirls and patterns inside. It has been known on occasion for artists to put inside a marble a decorative item or for a marble to have a decorative picture painted on its surface. Similarly, rubber balls have contained items within. There have been many games for marbles involving elaborate tracks and boards designed with grooves and holes. However, there have been no teachings of a marble or sphere or capsule with a visible representation of a specific character contained inside that uses this specific identity to play a game.
Previous marble games and marble toys have in general placed the emphasis on the device for the marble to be played on or with, shot through or rolled within, with the marble itself becoming merely an instrument used for the device to function, or a place marker.
It is the object of the invention to provide a unique and challenging game toy that is adaptable and fun for all age groups, employing a capsule that contains a visible and recognizable figure with a distinct identity that is utilized for the playing of the game in a playing field.
It is an object of the invention to use representations of real people as well as representations of fictional personalities and popular fanciful characters for the figure inside the capsule.
It is an object of the invention for game piece capsules to be designed in sets and collected.
It is a further object of the invention for game piece capsules to be designed in sets representing professional sports teams, each piece with a different player from that team, which can be collected and displayed and/or can be used in a game corresponding to the team's particular sport and statistics, with a game board representing the playing field of that sport.
It is a further object of this invention to have game piece capsules displayed as collectibles. Collections of sports figures, sports teams, fanciful characters, movie characters, or game characters can be displayed together in sets to represent a team or group, or can be displayed separately.
It is a further object of this invention to have game piece capsules individualized with a number, symbol, code or distinct characteristic for the purposes of collecting or for specific identification.
It is a further object of this invention to have carrying cases for the games piece capsules.
It is a further object of the invention for the game piece capsules to include circuitry and/or computer chips that enable the transmission of signals between the game pieces, the playing area, a game board, a base station, and/or a computer. Each game piece would have an individual ID. This would allow for remote control of the game piece capsules, electronically keeping score, electronically tracking the game play as it progresses, electronically tracking game piece values as they are decreased or increased during game play, electronically determining an outcome of an event, electronically determining a random number, triangulation to determine the position of a piece or pieces in relation to each other and in relation to a playing area or game board. Game play can be viewed on a screen and animation used to illustrate and duplicate what is happening to the actual game piece and the outcomes of interactions between the game pieces. Game play would be possible by players in different locations through the Internet. Game play can switch to computer animation and back to actual physical play as desired.
It is a further object of this invention for the game piece capsules to open and the inside figures to be removable. The game piece capsules may open when jarred by another piece influencing the outcome of the game. The game piece capsules of an opponent can be opened by a victorious player and the figures removed as trophies. Additional items may be added to the game piece capsules or figures replaced.
It is a further object of this invention to have game piece capsules that are of different sizes and shapes.
It is a further object of this invention for the game piece capsules to have bumps, projections, holes, textured surfaces, grooves, and/or rough surfaces that would influence the path of the piece.
It is a further object of this invention to have magnets, electromagnets, metal, beads, sand, weighted objects, gel and/or liquid inside the game piece capsules to influence the path of the pieces, and/or affect the figures inside.
It is a further object of this invention to have a light source or visual signal inside the game piece capsules. The light source can be activated by a switch, remote control, jarring, opening, shaking and/or by the piece passing over or near a specific material. The light can be used to demonstrate crashing, explosions, warning signals, traveling, weapons, use of powers, use of abilities, or other events appropriate for game play.
It is a further object of this invention to have a noise source or audible signal inside the game piece capsule. The noise source can be activated by a switch, remote control, jarring, opening, shaking and/or by the piece passing over or near a specific material. The noise can mimic crashing, explosions, warning signals, traveling, weapon noises, voices or other sounds appropriate for game play. The noise can be generated by a microphone used by a player to project the player's voice or other sounds through the game piece.
It is a further object of this invention to have information or an image inside and/or on the surface of the game piece capsule that can be read by the naked eye.
It is a further object of this invention to have information or an image inside and/or on the surface of the game piece capsule that can be seen or viewed by using a device or by mechanically manipulating the piece. Viewing the information or image can be achieved by magnification, shining a specific light onto the piece that would reveal it, shining light through the piece to project it, or by twisting, rubbing, or shaking the capsule.
It is a further object of this invention to have inflatable game pieces. These could be used on the grass or in a pool, or used by younger players.
It is a further object of this invention to have the game pieces used in toys. The piece would be added to a larger figure in a receptacle in the chest or head area for instance, to a vehicle, to a wristband, or to a play station, in which the game piece acts as a passenger or as a control center. Game pieces added to vehicles can be launched into the playing field.
It is a further object of this invention to have a game board or a play area that has receptors, activators, magnets, bumps, projections, grooves, holes, mechanical switches, bumpers, elastic bands, and/or traps that influence the path of the game pieces. Game pieces travel over or near switches that signal the piece or the board to make a specific noise, affect the games pieces or lead the game pieces in a certain direction on the board.
This concept of the present invention reverses past models of marble toys and games and places the emphasis on the marble itself with its recognizable figure within, each having a specific identity important to the play and outcome.
In one embodiment of the game, the marble or capsule represents a force field or energy shield that protects the figure within and is activated by the figure when needed. The shield protects the figure from attacks from other figures, yet allows him to attack and use his abilities and powers. A crew of heroes protects their world or territory from various groups of villains. Each game piece character, hero or villain, has a name, a history, a weapon and/or power, and a designated system of points and symbols that determine the outcome of battles against another team or teams of game pieces. Each game piece becomes strategic to the game because of its distinct identity and how the player decides to use the piece. By manipulating the game piece by rolling, flicking, sliding, or launching that piece into the playing field a player must strike an opponent's marble or capsule in order to attack or create a battle that is regulated by the field of play and the designated points which the game pieces possess. This game utilizes a method of points combined with a physical action on a playing field that requires skill and a random event such as the roll of dice, the turn of a spinner, the pick of a card, or any random generator, the preferred embodiment being a die or dice.
Therefore, it is a feature of the exemplary embodiments to provide a novel game toy, game, and a method of playing a game.
Some embodiments may include one or more of the following features.
In one embodiment, a game apparatus includes a game piece in the nature of a hand-manipulated capsule containing a visible figure with a distinct identity. The figure may be representative of an individual character with a distinct personality. The figure may be representative of a characteristic, representing specific abilities. The figure may be representative of a device. The figure may be representative of a generic sports position team player. Multiple capsules may be provided wherein each capsule has a different character.
The figure may have a designation representing ability characteristics utilized by the game piece. Each figure may have a designation representing defensive characteristics utilized by the game piece. Each game piece may have a corresponding card that gives the player all the information regarding that game piece needed to play the game.
The capsule may be spherical and the figure may be embedded in and visible through the capsule. The capsule may be in the shape of a cube, polyhedron, disc, cylinder, or cone.
Means for projecting the game piece may be included with the game apparatus.
Specific game pieces may be used to designate the playing field, being placed periodically along a real or imaginary line of the periphery of the playing field. A game board that designates outlined shapes for the boundaries of the playing field may also be provided. The shape designating the boundaries of the playing field may have markings along the periphery of the shape to periodically place specific game pieces used to designate a section for a player to operate within.
In another embodiment, the invention may comprise a marble with an encapsulated recognizable figure with a distinct identity, the figure being visible within the marble. The figure may be representative of an individual character with a distinct personality. A set of multiple marbles may be provided, wherein each marble has a different character.
In yet another embodiment, the invention may comprise a method of initiating a hand manipulated playing piece in a designated playing field where each game piece has an individual identity responsible for triggering an action on the game field. Moving a specific game piece may accomplish a required event in accord with a plan in response only to the instructions of the particular pieces that are involved in that event. Each player may manipulate game pieces in a chosen order in accordance with characteristics of the pieces, with the pieces of other players reacting in accord with their individual characteristics with action and reaction of the pieces determining the outcome of the games.
An embodiment of the method may include one or more of the following steps.
A specific playing field may be provided or determined in which each player is aware of the boundaries of the field and each player has a designated section of the length of the periphery of the playing field to operate within.
Each player may choose a team of game pieces for his squadron so that each team game piece has a distinct identity, different from the other players team game pieces' identities, and each team game piece having a designated number for defense and for attack. Each player may further designate a commander or leader of his squadron of team game pieces which, if removed from the game, can create a detrimental effect on the attack numbers of the remaining team game pieces.
Each player may place at least one of his game pieces in the approximate center of the playing field or a mutually agreed upon central area of the playing field. A means for determining the starting order of the players may be provided.
Going in turn, each player may use a game piece from his reserves, those not in the playing field but still active in the game, or choose a team game piece already in the playing field, and, without entering the playing field with any part of his body and staying within the confines of his playing section, manipulate his game piece by rolling, flicking, sliding, or propelling it at a game piece of another player. If, during his turn of play, the player's team game piece strikes an opponent's team game piece or strikes multiple opponents' team game pieces and forces the opponent's team game piece out of the playing field, the defense number of the team game piece forced out of the playing field may be decreased by half, and that team game piece forced out of the playing field may returned to the approximate center or central area of the field. If the opponent's team game piece remains in the playing field those playing pieces may remain where landed and the player may use a device to produce a random outcome such as rolling dice, to determine the effect of the strike, in accord with a plan, by using a multiplier and/or a subtraction or addition of the attack number of the player's team game piece which is then subtracted from the defense number of all opponents' team game pieces struck. If the result of the strike is that the defense number of a team game piece is zero or below, that team game piece may be removed from the game.
If the outcome of the dice role denotes that the player may call on his reserves, the initial strike may be determined by rolling the dice again until it does not denote reserve, and he may then pick a game piece from those that are not in the playing field and manipulate it into the field of play to strike again at any opponent's pieces, any team game piece used from his reserves may be returned to his reserves after his turn of play, unless he has no game pieces left in his reserve, in which case he may not be permitted to strike again.
If the player's team game piece lands in the playing field it may stay where it landed. If the player's team game piece lands outside the playing field, it may be returned to the approximate center or central area of the field. If, during his turn of play, the player's team game piece propelled into the playing field touches no other game piece of an opponent, the team game piece may stay where it lands unless it lands outside the playing field, in which case it may be returned to the approximate center or central area of the field.
If, during his turn of play, the player's team game piece propelled into the playing field strikes one or more of his own team game pieces, each struck team game piece may stay where it lands unless it lands outside the playing field in which case it may be removed from being active in the playing field and returned to the player's reserves, until the player decides to enter it into the playing field again.
If, during his turn of play, the player's team game piece propelled into the playing field strikes his own team game piece or an opponent's team game piece and this struck piece hits any other team game piece in the field of play, the secondary hit piece may stay where it lands, unless it lands outside the playing field in which case it may be returned to the central area of the playing field.
If, during his turn of play, a player uses a special game piece that is earned by and/or given to each player at the start of and/or during the game, in accord with a plan, which can affect a team game piece by giving it an advantage or a disadvantage because it represents a power, an ability, a weapon, a device, a bomb, a land mine, a magic spell, a protection, a defensive shield, a cure, a nullifier, or a special condition that affect the results of a strike or battle on the playing field, and propels it into the playing field, and it strikes an appropriate game piece, then it may be considered activated and the advantage or disadvantage this affords takes effect in accord with a plan, irrespective of game piece it was intended for, for the remainder of the game or for a specified number of turns of play, after which it may removed from the playing field and cannot be used again.
If a special game piece is of a type that needs to touch another game piece to be activated, and it does not touch any other game piece but it lands in the field of play, it may be considered un-activated and may remain in the field of play where it landed until a game piece touches it, in which case it may become active and the game piece that touched it gets the advantage or disadvantage it affords for the remainder of the game or for a specified number of turns of play, after which it may be removed from the playing field and cannot be used again, unless the game piece that touches it is one that nullifies or destroys it, after which it may be removed from the playing field and cannot be used again. If a special game piece is of a type that needs to touch another game piece to be activated and it does not strike any other game piece and it lands outside the playing field it may be deactivated and cannot be used again.
If a special game piece is of the type that does not need to touch another game piece to be activated and lands in the field of play it may become activated and takes effect on all or certain game pieces, in accord with a plan, for a specified number of turns of play or until it touches a game piece that nullifies or destroys it, after which it may be removed from the playing field and cannot be used again. If a special game piece is of the type that does not need to hit another game piece to be activated and it lands outside the playing field it may be deactivated and cannot be used again.
If, during the game, a player's team game piece's defense number is reduced to zero or below, that game piece may be removed from the game. If, during the game a player's team game piece is removed from the game or the playing field and that player has no other team game pieces left in the playing field, that player may put into the playing field another team game piece, unless that player does not have another team game piece that is not a special game piece, left in the game in which case the player may be out of the game. The last player left with a team game piece on the playing field may win the game.
The above steps may be repeated until only one player is left with a game piece in the playing field.
Other objects, features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description and the accompanying drawings.
A game toy apparatus of an embodiment according to this invention includes exemplary capsules with an encapsulated figure shown in
As shown in
Another embodiment of the game piece is a capsule that is designed to open. Designs to open and re-close capsules are well know to anyone skilled in the art and methods can include two halves with a male and a female thread to screw the pieces together, two halves sliding into each other where one side acts as a sleeve to hold the other side, clips that couple the parts together, or slots or female receptacles with corresponding male counterparts to attach pieces together. The capsule can be designed to pop open when jarred by another piece by having an assembly with loose connections and/or by having a spring incorporated into the piece to pop it open when jarred. Springs of different designs can be added by adhesives or by molding into the capsule and are commonly used and well know to anyone skilled in the art. In an actual playing of the game, when a game piece capsule pops open a gain or loss of value can occur, or the piece may be removed from the game. A player can remove a figure from a game piece capsule to replace it with another figure, or a player can remove a figure from an opponent's game piece capsule as a trophy due to a victorious outcome of events.
Another embodiment of the game piece is a capsule that has bumps, projections, grooves, holes, textured surfaces, or is oddly shaped, all common and easily achieved by methods well known to anyone skilled in the art, for example by molding, etching, or adding pieces with adhesives. In an actual playing of the game, these can influence the roll, slide or bounce of the game piece, affect the intended trajectory and target of the player, and add difficulty and surprise to the game. A spherically shaped game piece with a groove running along its middle can be used to help a player roll the piece straighter and therefore hit a target or land in a desired area. A spherically shaped game piece with a few bumps would make it harder for a player to hit a desired target, as the trajectory would be difficult to predict.
Another embodiment of the game piece is a capsule that is evenly or unevenly weighted causing it to roll, slide, or bounce erratically, In an actual playing of the game, this would affect the intended trajectory of the player, make it more difficult to hit a target, and add surprise to the game. Materials can be simply added to a particular part of the capsule to achieve the intended weight distribution. The weighted material can include heavy weight paper or a thin strip of metal adhered to one side of a capsule. Or the capsule can be molded with a thicker wall on one side to cause an uneven roll of the piece.
Another embodiment of the game piece is a capsule that is filled with liquid or gel. This can be used to add weight to the capsule or to create an effect such as bubbling when shaken or rolled. The figures can be suspended and float inside the capsule. Capsules with gel or liquid are common and methods to achieve them are well know to anyone skilled in the art. In an actual playing of the game, a game piece filled with a colored liquid could signify a special ability or defense when located in a specific area of the playing field. A game piece filled partially with a liquid may roll erratically when struck by another game piece or launched into the playing field.
Another embodiment of the game piece is a capsule that contains magnets, electromagnets, and/or metals. These can be added to a game piece capsule with an adhesive, a clip, or by molding a sleeve or pocket into the capsule to house the addition. Passing or touching another game piece with magnets and/or metals causes an attraction or repulsion of the pieces. This can be used strategically in game play or can cause an unexpected result such as a game piece being diverted from its' intended target by the magnetic attraction of another piece. A game board or playing surface can also utilize magnets, electromagnets, and/or metals to influence the path or trajectory of these game pieces, slow the speed of these game pieces, or attract them to a specific spot. Magnetic or metal sheets can simply be paced in the playing field in random or specified patterns, or incorporated into a game board. In an actual playing of the game, two pieces attaching themselves or attaching to a part of the game board can cause a piece to gain or loose value. A piece designated as an explosive or magic spell can be activated when two pieces attach magnetically. A game piece that is magnetically attracted to a metal surface in the playing area would be more difficult to move or knock out of the playing area by striking with another game piece and can therefore act as a safe haven for a piece in game play.
Another embodiment of the game piece is a capsule that is made of an inflatable material. The game playing capsule can be composed of a clear inflatable plastic material such as those used to make common beach balls. Players would inflate the capsule and use it for game play in wet environments, grass or dirt surfaces, or for large playing areas. These inflatable capsules can be used by younger players when small game pieces are not age appropriate.
Another embodiment of the game piece is a capsule that has circuitry for producing a visible signal or light pattern. This type of circuitry is common and well known to anyone skilled in the art and commonly used in toys, games, and buttons. Holiday buttons worn on a lapel for example often have a blinking light on a reindeer's nose or tree, which is activated by noise, a switch or by vibration. Car toys, and robots often have blinking lights or sirens that light up in patterns. A visual signal from a Light Emitting Diode (LED) attached to a battery source is often used. The light or visual signal can be activated by a switch, remote control, jarring, shaking or by passing over an activating material such as metal. Visual signals can add excitement to game play by demonstrating an action or event such as an explosion, a weapon firing, the use of a magic power or spell, or signaling the addition or subtraction of value to a game piece. A particular color or pattern of light can signify the specific action that took place, or that the piece is armed or dangerous to another game piece. In an actual playing of the game, when two game pieces strike each and cause a visual signal, this can signify adding or subtracting value from a piece or pieces, or it can signify an event such as an explosion, or magic spell which can cause an additional decrease or increase of value to a piece or pieces.
Another embodiment of the game piece is a capsule that has circuitry for producing an audible signal. This type of circuitry is common and well known to anyone skilled in the art, and often used in toys, buttons, and greeting cards. For example, toy cars and rescue vehicles often incorporate realistic sounds and voices. Another common example is music or movie themes found in greeting cards that are activated by a switch when the card is opened. Holiday buttons worn on a lapel often play music that is activated by noise, a switch or by vibration. The audible signal can be activated by a switch, remote control, jarring, shaking or by passing over an activating material such as metal. The audible signal can add excitement to the game by mimicking the sound of an action such as an explosion, crash, warning signal, traveling, voice or signaling the addition or subtraction of value to a game piece. In an actual playing of the game, when two pieces strike each other if one has an audible signal, it can signify the addition or subtraction of value from a piece or pieces, or signify an event such as an explosion or magic spell which can cause an additional decrease or increase of value to a piece or pieces. Adding a speaker to the game piece allows a player to use a microphone to project his actual voice, music or other sounds chosen by the player. The player can personalize sounds to signify actions or events.
Another embodiment of the game piece is a capsule that incorporates circuitry or chips used to transmit signals to a base station or a number of base stations, a game board, circuitry added to a playing field, and/or to another game piece. Each game piece capsule would have a specific ID signifying any and all of the information needed to play the game and can also specifically identify the particular game piece. This information can include designations of type, name, attack values, defense values, weapons, powers, abilities, magic powers, and weaknesses as well as a specific identification. The information transmitted from a game piece can include events that take place in the playing field during an actual playing of the game, for example when the game piece is struck or jarred by another game piece, when an audible or visual signal occurs from the piece, or when the game piece interacts with materials in the playing area. Computerized receiving stations used by the players can collect all of the information. In an actual playing of the game the computer can use the information to determine the outcome of an event between game pieces using a randomly generated number when needed. It can keep score for each player, keep track of the defense and attack values of all the game pieces as these are changed during the course of the game, keep track of weapons or values given or taken away from game pieces, and keep track of what game pieces are left in the game and which have been removed. The computer can also keep track of the playing field environment, for example if a game piece with a magic spell is activated in the playing field, the computer will determine for how long it takes effect and how the game pieces are affected during the course of the game. The computer can be programmed for different levels of difficulty before the game begins. Additionally, the information transmitted by each game piece with its' individual identification and by at least three base stations placed near the playing field can be used for methods of triangulation to determine the position of each piece in relation to the playing field and in relation to each other. In an actual playing of a game, for example, this could be used to determine if a game piece designated as a bomb, or magic spell, was close enough to affect another game piece even though there was no physical contact. It can determine which game pieces were involved in a strike by another game piece, if a game piece has rolled out of the designated field of play, or if the game piece is in a particular area of the playing field that would affect an attack or defense. Utilizing the Internet, players can relay information to and from their base stations and play the game from different locations using a predetermined grid pattern relating to the playing field similar to a chessboard. Circuitry used to transmit and receive information is well known to anyone skilled in the art and common in toys such as remote control cars and robots, as well as in wireless controls for televisions, video games, stereo systems, and computers. Garage door openers have wireless controls that use a specific identification so as not to open a neighbor's garage door or multiple doors on a two-car garage. The same control often has another button to turn on a light. Popular gas stations offer customers a small key chain device to wirelessly transmit the customer's account and credit information, using a specific identification, to a gas pump. Vehicles passing through tolls often have a device to wirelessly identify it and pay the toll electronically. Video games are common and well known to anyone skilled in the art, and use computers to keep track of individual characters, changes in the game, the score, and all the variables as the game progresses. The science of triangulation to determine a position is well know to anyone skilled in the art, and used in radio navigation systems such as the Global Positioning Systems (GPS) used in cars and in cell phones.
Another embodiment of the game pieces is capsules of various shapes and different sizes within the same game. In an actual playing of the game a player may find it easier to manipulate a larger game capsule into the playing area and to strike a target. A larger capsule, for instance, would be easier to maneuver over a challenging playing field, one that has a rough surface or obstacles for example. An octagonal shaped game capsule could offer a player more stability once launched and landed in the playing field. Collecting different sizes or shapes would add to the enjoyment of the game.
Another embodiment of the game piece is a capsule that has information or an image displayed on the outside surface, the inside surface, or placed inside of the capsule that can be seen or read by the naked eye. This information or image can be added to the capsule by printing or adhering the information to a surface of the capsule or by placing it on an item inside the capsule. The information can be used in the playing of the game. The information can include attack and defense values, or can signify weapons, abilities, powers, or any characteristic appropriate for game play. The information can include that which is needed for a collection, or to designate a special or rare piece. Additionally it can be used to register a piece with a club or for an event.
Another embodiment of the game piece is a capsule that has information or an image displayed on the outside or inside surface of the capsule, or placed inside of the capsule, that can be seen by using a device or by mechanically manipulating the piece. For example by printing with ink that can only be viewed by a specific light source, or by printing with a glow in the dark ink that needs light to activate it, or by disguising the information in a jumble of printed colors that require a specifically colored lens to view the information, all commonly used methods in toys, puzzles and games. Another method would be to print a covering over the information that has to be rubbed off to reveal it, as the type often used for lottery tickets. Another example would be by shinning a light through a specific part of the piece to project the information onto the inside surface of the capsule, or on a surface outside of the capsule such as a wall. A flashlight, or laser light can be used for this purpose, and a plastic lens can be molded into or placed in the capsule for projection and magnification. Information can be printed too small to be read with the naked eye and require a magnification device to see it. Another example would be mechanically manipulating the capsule by turning one half to uncover hidden information or to move an embedded magnifying lens or colored lens over the information. Or by mechanically manipulating the capsule by dialing one half over the other half in a predetermined sequence, each half having printed or molded information such as letters or symbols. When correctly adjusted the dial reveals the information or a coded message. The information can include that which is needed to play the game, such as attack and defense values, or can signify weapons, abilities, powers, or any characteristic appropriate for game play. Or the information can include an ID, a message, that which is needed for a collection, or to designate a special or rare piece. Additionally the information can be used to register a piece with a club or for an event.
Another embodiment of the game pieces is a capsule that is suited to be used in other toys. For example the capsule can be placed in a receptacle of a larger figure, a robot for example in the head or in the chest area. The game capsule then acts as the imaginary brain or control center of the figure it is attached to. The game capsule can be placed in a vehicle such as a jet, tank or car for imagined transportation. The game capsule can be used in a play station utilizing the figures inside the capsule as soldiers operating a battle station or spaceship. Methods to include a game piece capsule in another toy can be as simple as placing the piece in an appropriately shaped receptacle. The piece can be snap fitted if need be. In an actual playing of the game, a game piece fitted into a vehicle can be launched into the playing field having enhanced attack and defense values, or additional weapons, depending on the type of vehicle the game piece is in.
Another embodiment of the game piece is a capsule that incorporates information individual to each specific piece to be used in a collection, a contest, or used to register the piece. Registration for example can be used in a club, event, series of games, or a contest. This information could be in the form of a number, code, symbol, color, or distinct characteristic that would appeal to collectors or players. Each piece can be simply designated with a number. Or each piece could be numbered by its position off the production line for example, or randomly have a special designation or color. This information can be printed on the capsule, put inside the capsule, placed on the capsule with a sticker, or included in circuitry associated with the capsule.
As shown in
Another embodiment of the game playing field includes a game board or playing field that incorporates magnets, electromagnets, or metal pieces to influence games pieces that incorporate magnets, electromagnets, or metal. These would attract or repel the game pieces and affect the trajectory or path of the piece making game play more interesting and more challenging. Magnetic or metal strips can be placed according to a pattern or randomly in the playing area. In an actual playing of the game, a game piece can be magnetically attracted to a metal surface in the playing field, making it more difficult to move or knock out of the playing field by striking it with another game piece. This can act as a safe haven if it is undesirable that the piece be knocked out of the playing field or moved. Launching a magnetic game piece into the playing field that travels over a metal surface could slow the piece or stop the piece in an undesired area. Areas that are electromagnetic can be turned on or off depending on the progression of the game.
Another embodiment of the game playing field includes a game board or playing field that incorporates bumps, projections, grooves, holes, textured surfaces, bumpers, elastic bands, mechanical switches and/or traps to make the game more interesting and more challenging. Common examples of these are found in pinball machines and known to anyone skilled in the art. In an actual playing of the game, a player would have to strategically determine how to avoid or overcome areas that prohibit a desired trajectory of his game piece. A bumper or stretched elastic can sit in the playing field and be used by a player to bounce off and angle the trajectory of his piece to hit a target or avoid another piece that is in the way. Game boards are commonly molded with specific terrain. Molded pieces or surfaces and additional items can simply be placed into the playing field or on a game board in a predetermined or random fashion.

Another embodiment includes carrying cases for the game piece capsules. These can be in the form of a tube or case that fits a number of pieces representing a team. The tube can have a window along its side to view the pieces inside. Tubes made of metal or plastic with window slots are common and often used to hold cigars, for example. Cases can be opened to act as displays for the pieces as well as for transporting.
An actual playing of the game can include, as an example, rolling, flicking, sliding, or launching a playing piece in a designated playing field
An actual playing of the game can include, as an example, the following steps. The players first choose the playing field by either using a playing board
The further steps of this example of an actual playing of the game involve each player going in turn by choosing a team game piece that is already in the playing field or a game piece from his reserves, those not already in the playing field, and manipulating that piece into the playing field by rolling, flicking, sliding or launching it, without any part of his body entering the playing field and while staying within the confines of his playing section of the periphery of the playing field. The player may choose a team game piece that is a member of his squadron, knowing that if all of his team game pieces are removed from the game then he is out of the game. Or the player may choose a game piece that is considered a special game piece that is earned by, bought by, or given to the players at the start of or during the game. This type of special game piece can represent a power, an ability, a weapon, a device, a bomb, a land mine, a magic spell, a protection, a defensive shield, a cure, a nullifier, or a special condition that affects the results of a strike or battle on the playing field. Special game pieces are different in type. One type is used to either strike your own team game piece to give it an advantage or to strike your opponent's team game piece to give it a disadvantage, which lasts for the remainder of the game or for a specified number of turns of play. If this type of special game piece is used and it strikes any team game piece, it is activated and the advantage or disadvantage takes effect irrespective of the game piece for which it was intended. Once this type of special game piece has been activated it cannot be used again and is removed from the playing field. If this type of special game piece is manipulated into the field of play by a player and it does not strike any other game piece but it lands in the field of play it is considered un-activated and remains in the field of play until a team game piece touches it, in which case it becomes active and the team game piece that touched it gets the advantage or disadvantage it affords. It is then removed from the game and cannot be used again. If this type of special game piece is manipulated into the field of play by a player and it does not strike any other game piece and lands outside the field of play it is considered deactivated and cannot be used again. Another type of special game piece creates a condition on the field of play that all or certain game pieces are affected by for a specified number of turns of play. A third type of special game piece nullifies, cures, or destroys other game pieces. These two types of special game pieces may or may not be required to strike another game piece, or they may need to be struck by a game piece to activate, and can be used only once and are removed from the field of play after their use has ended. If they land outside the playing field they are deactivated and cannot be used again.
Still further steps of this example of an actual playing of the game include a player, after choosing one of his game pieces to use during his turn of play, entering that piece into the playing field with the intention of striking a game piece of another player's team or one of his own game pieces. If he choose to use a team game piece and strikes a team game piece of another player and knocks it out of the playing field, that opponent's team game piece has its' defense number reduced by half and it is returned to the approximate center or central area of the playing field. Once a team game piece has its defense number reduced to zero or below that team game piece is removed from the game. If a player's team game piece is removed from the game and he has no other team game pieces in the playing field, he must choose another team game piece and place it in the approximate center or central area of the playing field. If he has no other team game pieces left, he is out of the game. If the player's team game piece strikes another player's team game piece and it lands in the field of play a battle ensues, the result of which is determined by the attack number, playing field conditions if any have been established by special game pieces, events, or predetermined conditions at the start of the game, the type or kind of abilities, weapons and defensive protections the team game piece possesses, the defense number and the kind of abilities, weapons and defensive protections the team game piece that was struck possesses, and by the roll of a die or dice, the turn of a spinner, pick of a card, or any device to produce a random outcome, the preferred embodiment being a die or dice, in which a particular outcome has a specific result. The attack number of the player's team game piece, after all determinations of that number have been established, are subtracted from the defense number, after all determinations of that number have been established, of the opponent player's team game piece. If the player strikes two or more opponent's team game pieces, the attack number determined as described above, is used for subtraction against the defense number of the team game piece struck first and is then reduced by half and subtracted from the defense numbers of the opponent's team game pieces struck after the first. If the struck piece's defense number is reduced to zero or below it is removed from the game. If the player strikes his own team game piece the team game pieces stay where they land and the next player has his turn, unless those team game pieces land outside the playing field in which case the team game piece used is placed in the approximate center or central area of the playing field and the team game piece struck is put in reserve, and not put back in the playing field until the player decides to use it. This allows a player to remove one of his own team game pieces strategically from the playing field. If a player's team game piece strikes any team game piece and that team game piece strikes another team game piece, the secondary struck team game piece stays where it lands unless it lands outside the playing field in which case it is returned to the approximate center or central area of the playing field. If the player's team game piece lands outside the playing field after striking another piece or without striking another piece it is placed in the approximate center or central area of the playing field.
Additionally further steps of this example of an actual playing of the game are if a player's game piece strikes another game piece and he is required to roll a die or dice or, turn a spinner, pick a card, or use a device to produce a random outcome, and that outcome is denoted as reserve, then the player may use another game piece from his reserve, which are those game pieces not in the playing field but are still active in the game, to enter into the playing field. The initial strike is again determined as above unless a reserve is the outcome again in which case the strike is determined again until something other then reserve is the outcome. The next game piece from his reserve follows the procedures set out above for the particular type of game piece. Any game piece the player possesses in his reserve may be used, unless the player has no game pieces in his reserve in which case his turn is over. If the player uses a team game piece from his reserve it is returned to his reserve once his turn of play is over.
Additionally further steps of this example of an actual playing of the game are each player going in turn until only one player (or designated group of players) has a team game piece or pieces still left in the game, all of the other players' team game pieces having been removed from game play by losing all of their defense values. The player still left in the game is the winner.
This game uses skill in manipulating the game piece into the playing field at a target, luck in that the outcome of a strike on the target is partly determined by a random device such as dice, and strategy in analyzing: all the conditions of attack and defense possessed by his team game pieces and the other players' team game pieces; the difficulty of achieving a strike against a particular target; the conditions set by a special game piece, if any; the players skill levels; which game pieces are active on the playing field and which are in the players' reserves.
Although the present invention has been described and illustrated in detail, it is clearly understood that the same is by way of illustration and example only and is not to be taken by way of limitation, the spirit and scope of the present invention being limited only by the means of the appended claims.
