Claims
- 1. A ball-receiving device for playing a game, comprising:
a frame defining an opening; a flexible member secured to the frame to close the opening sufficiently to capture a ball; and a structure dividing the frame opening into a number of contiguous ball-receiving areas.
- 2. The ball-receiving device of claim 1 wherein the flexible member is a net.
- 3. The ball-receiving device of claim 1 wherein the structure comprises two vertical and two horizontal members attached to the frame.
- 4. The ball-receiving device of claim 1 wherein the ball-receiving areas are all substantially the same size.
- 5. The ball-receiving device of claim 1 further comprising means for creating ball-receiving pockets toward the bottom of each ball-receiving area.
- 6. The ball-receiving device of claim 5 wherein the means for creating ball-receiving pockets comprises flexible strips.
- 7. The ball-receiving device of claim 6 wherein the flexible strips are netting.
- 8. The ball-receiving device of claim 1 wherein the frame comprises a number of interfitting frame pieces.
- 9. The ball-receiving device of claim 1 wherein there are nine ball-receiving areas.
- 10. The ball-receiving device of claim 1 further comprising a stand for holding the frame.
- 11. The ball-receiving device of claim 10 wherein the six stand holds the frame at an angle to the vertical.
- 12. The ball-receiving device of claim 11 wherein the angle is less than 45 degrees.
- 13. The ball-receiving device of claim 1 wherein the frame is substantially rectangular.
- 14. A ball-receiving device for playing a game, comprising:
a substantially rectangular frame defining an opening; a main netting secured to the frame to close the opening sufficiently to capture a ball; a plurality of vertical members and a plurality of horizontal members that divide the frame opening into a number of contiguous, substantially rectangular ball-receiving areas; and a plurality of netting strips defining spaced pockets created between the strips and the main netting.
- 15. A method of playing a game involving kicking a ball into a target, comprising:
providing a target comprising a netting having a plurality of pockets, each of which can hold the ball; kicking a ball toward the target, with the aim of the ball lodging in one of the pockets; and indicating a player's possession of a pocket once the ball is successfully kicked into such pocket.
- 16 The game-playing method of claim 15, wherein the possession of a pocket is indicated by placing a physical indicator other than the ball into the pocket.
- 17. The game-playing method of claim 15 wherein the target defines nine contiguous ball-receiving areas, and there is a pocket for each area.
- 18. The game-playing method of claim 17 wherein the areas are defined at least in part by a frame.
- 19. The game-playing method of claim 15 wherein the target further comprises a frame adapted to sit on the ground, for holding the netting at an angle to the ground.
