(j) DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 10 thereof, a new garment assembly embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 10, the garment assembly 10 generally comprises a robe 12 and a pair of shorts 14. The robe 12 includes a back portion 16 and a pair of front flaps 18 attached to and extending from opposing side edges 20 of the back portion 16, wherein the robe 12 is designed to extend from shoulders to thighs of a wearer to cover a torso and pelvic region of a wearer. The pair of shorts 14 is connected to an interior surface of the robe 12 and includes a rear half 22 and a front half 24 to enclose a pelvic region of a wearer.

In the exemplary embodiment shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, the rear half 22 is integrally formed as part of the back portion 16 of the robe 12 and the front half 24 is attached to lower sections of the opposing side edges 20 of the back portion 16. The front flaps 18 of the robe 12 are foldable over the front half 24 of the shorts 14. In an alternative exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 4, the front half 24 of the shorts 14 is integrally formed as part of one of the front flaps 18 and the other of the front flaps 18 is foldable over the front half 24 of the shorts 14. In both of these exemplary embodiments, the shorts 14 include a resiliently stretchable waist band 26 extending around the rear half 22 and the front half 24. An outer belt 28 can be used to cinch up the front flaps 18, as shown in FIG. 1, which outer belt 28 could be loose or connected to the sides of the robe 12, such as at the ends of the rear portion of the resiliently stretchable waist band 26. In this embodiment, the robe 12 includes long sleeves 30 and also a hood 32. However, this is one possible embodiment as the robe 12 could have no hood 32 and short sleeves 34, such as shown in FIG. 5, for example. The designs of the sleeves and the inclusion or omission of a hood can be used in any of the exemplary embodiments. As shown in FIG. 3, the robe 12 also can include a first tie 36 attached to the back portion 16 and a second tie 38 attached to one of the front flaps 18, wherein the first tie 36 and the second tie 38 are designed to be detachably tied together to temporarily secure the one of the front flaps 18 in a folded position over a wearer.

FIGS. 5 through 10 show two possible exemplary embodiments in which an upper portion 40 of the shorts 14 is connected to the robe 12 such that the shorts 14 hang freely from the robe 12 and are coverable by the back portion 16 and the front flaps 18. In other words, the shorts 14 are not formed integrally with the robe 12 as shown in FIG. 2. The outer belt 28 in each of these embodiments is separate from the robe 12 and threaded through outer robe loops 42. Since a user often wears a robe 12 for breathability, such as right after bathing or showering, a relatively loose fit of the shorts 14 could provide a similar comfortable, free-flowing feel.

In the exemplary embodiment shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, the upper portion 40 of the shorts 14 is attached to the back portion 16 of the robe 12 by a plurality of individual stitches 44. The shorts 14 are suspended by these stitches 44. It should be understood that the shorts 14 and robe 12 can be connected or integrally formed together in any of the exemplary embodiments disclosed herein by stitching, but also could be connected by different means, such as zippers, adhesive, snaps, buttons, and similar connections.

In the exemplary embodiment shown in FIGS. 9 and 10, the robe 12 includes an inner belt 46 extending around the back portion 16 and the front flaps 18 and separated into free sections 48 attached at ends thereof to an interior surface of the robe 12. The upper portion 40 of the shorts 14 includes a plurality of short belt loops 50 positioned around the inner belt 46, one at each of the free sections 48, such that the short belt loops 50 are slidable along the free sections 48 to permit substantially free rotational movement of the shorts 14 with respect to the robe 12. In this design, the user can twist his or her hips and the shorts 14 will move freely with respect to the robe 12, rather than the shorts 14 pulling on the robe 12 and twisting the robe 12 out of position or bunching up the robe 12, especially if the robe 12 is tied in front. The stitches 44 keep the shorts 14 from sliding off of the inner belt 46.

In use, the user puts on the garment assembly 10 by slipping his or her legs through leg holes 52 in the shorts 14 and then pulling the robe 12 up. The user then inserts his or her arms into the sleeves 30, 34. The user now has a covering that will cover the pelvic region of the user while the user goes about performing tasks in the robe 12 that involve such actions as walking, bending over, and sitting down, without accidentally exposing the pelvic region. The user always has a lightweight pair of shorts 14 ready to be worn, which can be helpful when the user has recently completed bathing or is performing a beauty treatment, such as drying hair and putting on makeup. In those circumstances, a user may wish to put on an outfit, including undergarments, after completing such activities, and in the meantime wear the garment assembly 10.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
