Abstract
A burner head for a gas burner which is preferably of an aluminum die casting body whose outer surfaces are provided with an enamel coating.
Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to a gas burner head and, more particularly, to a metal gas burner head and especially to aluminum gas burner head.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] A burner head of a gas burner head can be fabricated from any of a number of metals, especially, a nonferrous metal like aluminum. Because the burner head is subjected to relatively high temperatures, unesthetic discoloration can occur on the upper surfaces of the burner head.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION

[0003] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an improved gas burner head, especially an aluminum burner head, which is free from the aforementioned drawback.

[0004] Another object of the present invention is to provide a burner head for a gas burner which is particularly temperature resistant, color-stable and less sensitive to scratching than earlier burner heads and thus can be more easily cleaned.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0005] These objects and others which will become apparent hereinafter are attained, in accordance with the invention by providing upper outer surfaces of the burner head with an enamel layer. The enamel layer of the burner head is resistant to heat and high temperatures and can be absolutely color stable at the temperatures to which the burner head is subject. In addition, the coated surfaces can be easily cleaned since they are completely scratch resistant.

[0006] It has been found to be especially advantageous to form the burner head from an aluminum die casting or injection molded body. The enamel can be of any desired color although best results are obtained with black, gray and especially anthracite gray, brown or beige, especially light beige and glossy or bright beige.

[0007] It has been found to be advantageous, moreover, to provide on the burner body, whose outer surfaces are formed with the enamel coating, a burner cover or plate, the upper side of which is likewise covered by an enamel coating.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING

[0008] The above and other objects, features, and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description, reference being made to the accompanying drawing in which:

[0009]
FIG. 1 is an axial cross sectional view through an aluminum gas burner in accordance with the invention;

[0010]
FIG. 2 is a detailed section of a portion of the cover plate; and

[0011]
FIG. 3 is a detailed section of a portion of the burner body showing a flange thereof forming an upper surface noted with the enamel in accordance with the invention.

SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION

[0012] A gas burner 1 (FIG. 1) which lies primarily above the stove plate 3 for a gas stove comprises a burner body 2 having a flange 14 (FIG. 2) which rests upon the sheet metal plate 3 and is covered by a burner plate or cover 4 having orifices 15 through which the gas can emerge to form the burner flame. The burner cover 4 rests upon a cylindrical boss 16 of the burner body. The portions of the burner body which are exposed to view are the outer surface of the boss 16 and the upper surface of the flange 14. These surfaces are provided with an enamel coating 12.

[0013] Below the burner head 2, a nozzle carrier 5 is provided and can be screwed onto the burner head and the nozzle carrier 5 and the burner head 2 can clamp the trough of the stove plate in which the burner is mounted, between them. A duct 6 and a nozzle 7 serve to supply the gas to the burner head.

[0014] The upper surface 8 of the flange 12 is provided with openings through which an igniter 9 and a temperature sensor can pass to ignite the flame and control the flame in a conventional manner.

[0015] These parts and the nozzle carrier 5 can be mounted on a sheet metal plate 11 which is located beneath the plate 3.

[0016] The burner head 2 can be comprised of a variety of metals including iron alloys and nonferrous metals but preferably is a die cast nonferrous metal, namely, aluminum.

[0017] The enamel layer 12 which can be sprayed into the surfaces 8 and then baked on the burner head covers all of the visible surfaces of the burner head 2. The firing temperature of the enamel is about 450° C. This temperature is relatively low and is chosen to prevent softening of the aluminum. The color of the enamel is black, gray, especially anthracite gray for brown or beige, especially light beige. The burner plate 4 is also provided with an enamel coating as shown at 17 in FIGS. 1 and 2.
