Claims
- 1. An air bag gas generator, comprising:a housing including gas discharge ports having a total opening area At; and a plurality of solid gas generating agents provided within said housing and having a total surface area A, each solid gas generating agent defining a hole therein, a ratio (A/At) of said total surface area A and said total opening area At being in a range of about 450 to about 1300, and wherein said each solid gas generating agent is cylindrical in shape and has a thickness of about 0.01 to about 2.5 mm, said thickness being defined by an outer radius of said each solid gas generating agent and a radius of said hole.
- 2. The air bag gas generator of claim 1, wherein, in a tank pressure test in which the air bag gas generator is placed in a 60 liter sealed tank and activated therein, and a pressure within the 60 liter sealed tank is measured, a difference between maximum pressures at 85° C. and 20° C., and a difference between maximum pressures at 20° C. and −40° C. are not higher than 40 kPa, respectively.
- 3. The air bag gas generator of claim 1, wherein said ratio (A/At) is in a range of about 450 to about 1000.
- 4. The air bag gas generator of claim 1, wherein when the gas generator is a driver-side gas generator, said total opening area At is in a range of about 50 to about 200 mm2, and when the gas generator is a passenger-side gas generator, said total-opening area At is in a range of about 60 to about 500 mm2.
- 5. The air bag gas generator of claim 1, wherein when the gas generator is a driver-side gas generator, said total surface area A is in a range of about 4×104 to about 7×104 mm2, and when the gas generator is used in a passenger-side gas generator, said total surface area A is in a range of 6×104 to 3×105 mm2.
- 6. The air bag gas generator of claim 1, wherein each of the gas discharge ports has an inner diameter of about 2 to about 5 mm.
- 7. The air bag gas generator of claim 1, wherein said each solid gas generating agent has a linear burning velocity of about 7 to about 30 mm/sec under a pressure of 70 kg/cm2.
- 8. The air bag gas generator of claim 7, wherein said each solid gas generating agent has a linear burning velocity of about 7 to about 15 mm/sec.
- 9. The air bag gas generator of claim 1, wherein said each solid gas generating agent is a non-azide gas generating agent.
- 10. The air bag gas generator of claim 9, wherein said non-azide gas generating agent includes a nitrogen containing organic compound, an oxidizing agent, and a slag-forming agent.
- 11. The air bag gas generator of claim 10, wherein the nitrogen containing organic compound is nitroguanidine.
- 12. The air bag gas generator of claim 10, wherein the slag-forming agent is acid clay.
- 13. The air bag gas generator of claim 1, wherein when the gas generator is a driver-side gas generator, about 20 g to about 50 g of said solid gas generating agents is provided within said housing, and when the gas generator is a passenger-side gas generator, about 50 g to about 190 g of said solid gas generating agents is provided within said housing.
- 14. An air bag system, comprising:gas generator for an air bag including, a housing provided with gas discharge ports having a total opening area At, and a plurality of solid gas generating agents provided within said housing and having a total surface area A, a ratio (A/At) of said total surface area A and said total opening area At being larger than 300, an impact sensor that actuates the gas generator upon detection of an impact; an air bag which is inflated by a gas generated by the gas generator and introduced into said air bag; and a module case that stores said air bag.
- 15. The air bag gas generator of claim 10, wherein said non-azide gas generating agent includes,about 25 to about 50 wt % of the nitrogen containing organic compound, about 40 to about 65 wt % of the oxidizing agent, and about 1 to about 20 wt % of the slag-forming agent.
- 16. The air bag gas generator of claim 1, wherein said thickness is in a range of about 0.01 to about 1.0 mm.
- 17. The air bag gas generator of claim 1, wherein said solid gas generating agent includes an end face that defines an opening of said hole, and said thickness is defined by an outer radius of the end face and a radius of the opening.
- 18. The air bag gas generator of claim 1, wherein said hole penetrates said each solid gas generating agent.
- 19. An air bag gas generator, comprising:a housing including gas discharge ports having a total opening area At; and a plurality of solid gas generating agents provided within said housing, said gas generating agents having a total surface area A, and a ratio (A/At) of said total surface area A and said total opening area At being larger than 300 such that each solid gas generating agent completes burning within about 40 to about 80 milliseconds after an activation of the gas generator.
- 20. The air bag gas generator of claim 19, wherein, in a tank pressure test in which the air bag gas generator is placed in a 60 liter sealed tank and activated therein, and a pressure within the 60 liter sealed tank is measured, a difference between maximum pressures at 85° C. and 20° C., and a difference between maximum pressures at 20° C. and −40° C. are not higher than 40 kPa, respectively.
- 21. The air bag gas generator of claim 19, wherein said ratio (A/At) is smaller than about 1300.
- 22. The air bag gas generator of claim 22, wherein said ratio (A/At) is in a range of about 450 to about 1300.
- 23. The air bag gas generator of claim 22, wherein said ratio (A/At) is in a range of about 450 to about 1000.
- 24. The air bag gas generator of claim 19, wherein when the gas generator is a driver-side gas generator, said total opening area At is in a range of about 50 to about 200 mm2, and when the gas generator is a passenger-side gas generator, said total opening area At is in a range of about 60 to about 500 mm2.
- 25. The air bag gas generator of claim 19, wherein when the gas generator is a driver-side gas generator, said total surface area A is in a range of about 4×104 to about 7×104 mm2, and when the gas generator is a passenger-side gas generator, said total surface area A is in a range of about 6×104 to about 3×105 mm2.
- 26. The air bag gas generator of claim 19, wherein each of the gas discharge ports has an inner diameter of about 2 to about 5 mm.
- 27. The air bag gas generator of claim 19, wherein said each solid gas generating agent has a cylindrical body defining a hole penetrating therethrough and an end face defining an opening of said hole, and said thickness is in a range of about 0.01 to about 2.5 mm defined by an outer radius of the end face and a radius of the opening.
- 28. The air bag gas generator of claim 19, wherein said each solid gas generating agent has a linear burning velocity of about 7 to about 30 mm/sec under a pressure of 70 kg/cm2.
- 29. The air bag gas generator of claim 28, wherein said each solid gas generating agent has a linear burning velocity of about 7 to about 15 mm/sec.
- 30. The air bag gas generator of claim 19, wherein said each solid gas generating agent is a non-azide gas generating agent.
- 31. The air bag gas generator of claim 30, wherein said non-azide gas generating agent includes a nitrogen containing organic compound, an oxidizing agent, and a slag-forming agent.
- 32. The air bag gas generator of claim 31, wherein said non-azide gas generating agent includes,about 25 to about 60 wt % of the nitrogen containing organic compound, about 40 to about 65 wt % of the oxidizing agent, and about 1 to about 20 wt % of the slag-forming agent.
- 33. The air bag gas generator of claim 31, wherein the nitrogen containing organic compound is nitroguanidine.
- 34. The air bag gas generator of claim 31, wherein the slag-forming agent is acid clay.
- 35. The air bag gas generator of claim 19, wherein when the gas generator is a driver-side gas generator, about 20 to about 50 g of said solid gas generating agent is provided within said housing, and when the gas generating agent is a passenger-side gas generator, about 50 to about 190 g of said solid gas generating agent is provided within said housing.
- 36. The air bag gas generator of claim 19, wherein when the gas generator is a driver-side gas generator, said each solid gas generating agent completes burning within about 40 to about 60 milliseconds, and when the gas generator is a passenger-side gas generator, said each solid gas generating agent completes burning within about 50 to about 80 milliseconds.
- 37. The air bag gas generator of claim 27, wherein said thickness is in a range of about 0.01 to 1.0 mm.
- 38. An air bag gas generator, comprising:a housing including gas discharge ports having a total opening area At; and a plurality of solid gas generating agents provided within said housing and having a total surface area A, a ratio (A/At) of said total surface area A and said total opening area At being in a range of about 450 and about 1300.
- 39. The air bag gas generator of claim 38, wherein each solid gas generating agent has a cylindrical body including a hole penetrating therethrough and being longer in a longitudinal direction than in a radial direction thereof.
- 40. The air bag gas generator of claim 38, wherein, in a tank pressure test in which the air bag gas generator is placed in a 60 liter sealed tank and activated therein, and a pressure within the 60 liter sealed tank is measured, a difference between maximum pressures at 85° C. and 20° C., and a difference between maximum pressures at 20° C. and −40° C. are not higher than 40 kPa, respectively.
- 41. The air bag gas generator of claim 38, wherein said ratio (A/At) is in a range of about 450 to about 1000.
- 42. The air bag gas generator of claim 38, wherein when the gas generator is a driver-side gas generator, said total opening area At is in a range of about 50 to about 200 mm2, and when the gas generator is a passenger-side gas generator, said total opening area At is in a range of about 60 to about 500 mm2.
- 43. The air bag gas generator of claim 38, wherein when the gas generator is a driver-side gas generator, said total surface area A is in a range of about 4×104 to about 7×104 mm2, and when the gas generator is a passenger-side gas generator, said total surface area A is in a range of about 6×104 to 3×105 mm2.
- 44. The air bag gas generator of claim 38, wherein each of the gas discharge ports has an inner diameter of about 2 to about 5 mm.
- 45. The air bag gas generator of claim 38, wherein each solid gas generating agent has a linear burning velocity of about 7 to about 30 mm/sec under a pressure of 70 kg/cm2.
- 46. The air bag gas generator of claim 45, wherein each solid gas generating agent has a linear burning velocity of about 7 to about 15 mm/sec.
- 47. The air bag gas generator of claim 38, wherein each solid gas generating agent is a non-azide gas generating agent.
- 48. The air bag gas generator of claim 47, wherein said non-azide gas generating agent includes a nitrogen containing organic compound, an oxidizing agent, and a slag-forming agent.
- 49. The air bag gas generator of claim 48, wherein said non-azide gas generating agent includes,about 25 to about 60 wt % of nitrogen containing organic compound, about 40 to about 65 wt % of oxidizing agent, and about 1 to about 20 wt % of slag-forming agent.
- 50. The air bag gas generator of claim 48, wherein the nitrogen containing organic compound is nitroguanidine.
- 51. The air bag gas generator of claim 48, wherein the slag-forming agent is acid clay.
- 52. The air bag gas generator of claim 38, wherein when the gas generator is a driver-side gas generator, about 20 to about 50 g of said solid gas generating agent is provided within said housing, and when the gas generator is a passenger-side gas generator, about 50 to about 190 g of solid gas generating agent is provided within said housing.
- 53. The air bag gas generator of claim 39, wherein said cylindrical body includes an end face defining an opening of the hole and has a thickness of about 0.01 to about 2.5 mm defined by an outer radius of the end face and a radius of said opening.
- 54. The air bag gas generator of claim 53, wherein said thickness is in a range of about 0.01 to about 1.0 mm.
- 55. The air bag gas generator of claim 39, wherein said cylindrical body includes a hole penetrating therethrough such that the end face defines an opening of said hole therein.
- 56. The air. bag gas generator of claim 38, wherein each solid gas generating agent has a thickness of about 0.01 to about 2.5 mm.
- 57. The air bag gas generator of claim 56, wherein said thickness is in a range of about 0.01 to about 1.0 mm.
