Claims
- 1. Telephone line connection apparatus comprising:
- a) an RJ11 socket comprising at least two conductors for transmitting telephone signals;
- b) a connection means shaped in the form of an RJ11 plug; and
- c) a sealing means for environmentally protecting said RJ11 socket, said sealing means comprising a gel disposed in said RJ11 socket, said gel at least partially filling said RJ11 socket.
- 2. Apparatus as recited in claim 1 wherein:
- a) said RJ11 socket is coupled to telephone line conductors for providing telephone signals; and
- b) said connection means contains no conductors extending out of a body of said connection means.
- 3. Apparatus as recited in claim 1 wherein said gel has a cone penetration value of 50 to 350.times.10.sup.-1 mm and an ultimate elongation of at least 50%.
- 4. Apparatus as recited in claim 1 wherein said gel has a cone penetration value of 100 to 300.times.10.sup.-1 mm and an ultimate elongation of at least 100%.
- 5. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said gel has a cone penetration value of 100 to 250.times.10.sup.-1 mm and an ultimate elongation of at least 200%.
- 6. Apparatus as recited in claim 1 wherein said gel comprises material selected from the group of urethanes, silicones, and styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrenes.
- 7. Subscriber location telephone line connection apparatus comprising:
- an RJ11 socket comprising at least two conductors for transmitting telephone signals;
- b) a sealing means for environmentally protecting said RJ11 socket, said sealing means comprising a gel having an ultimate elongation of at least 100% and at least partially filling said RJ11 socket.
- 8. Apparatus as recited in claim 7 wherein said gel has a cone penetration value of 150 to 350.times.10.sup.-1 mm.
- 9. Apparatus as recited in claim 7 wherein said gel has a cone penetration value of 200 to 350.times.10.sup.-1 mm and an ultimate elongation of at least 200%.
- 10. Apparatus as recited in claim 7 wherein said gel comprises material selected from the group of silicones and styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrenes.
- 11. Subscriber location telephone line connection apparatus for insertably receiving an RJ11 plug, said apparatus comprising;
- a) an RJ11 socket comprising at least two conductors for transmitting telephone signals;
- b) a sealing means for environmentally protecting said RJ11 socket, said sealing means comprising a gel sufficiently filling said RJ11 socket so as to environmentally seal both said RJ11 socket and an inserted RJ11 plug after repeated connections and disconnections of said RJ11 socket and RJ11 plug.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein said gel has a cohesive strength greater than its adhesive strength and is disposed within said RJ11 socket so as to environmentally seal both said RJ11 socket and an inserted RJ11 plug such that upon disengagement of said RJ1 1plug from said RJ11 socket, said gel remains substantially within said RJ11 socket and is substantially removed from said RJ11 plug.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein said gel comprises material selected from the group of silicones and styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrenes and has a cone penetration value of 150 to 350.times.10.sup.-1 mm and an ultimate elongation of at least 200%.
