Claims
- 1. A method of removing a wedge from a coil slot of a dynamoelectric rotor, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) adjustably attaching a pulling fixture on the shaft of said rotor in a radial position which is aligned with a wedge to be removed;
- (b) attaching a pulling tool to the outer surface of said wedge, said tool being operatively connected to said fixture;
- (c) operating said pulling fixture to pull the wedge toward the fixture until the end of the wedge is adjacent the fixture;
- (d) disconnecting and inverting said tool; ,
- (e) attaching the tool to the inner surface of said wedge in a position adjacent to the rotor slot and again operating said fixture to pull the wedge toward the fixture; and
- (f) repeating step (e) until the wedge is completely removed from the coil slot.
- 2. A method as in claim 1 further including the step of:
- attaching said pulling fixture on said rotor shaft in a radial position which is aligned with another wedge to be removed; and
- repeating steps (b) through (f).
- 3. A method for insertion or removal of elongated retaining wedges into or from the coil slots of a generator rotor member, said method comprising:
- adjustably attaching a pulling fixture to the shaft of said rotor member in a radial position which is aligned with a coil slot;
- attaching a pulling tool to a wedge, said wedge being aligned with said coil slot, and said tool being operatively connected to said fixture;
- operating said pulling fixture to pull the wedge toward the fixture, whereby said wedge is inserted or removed from said coil slot.
- 4. a method as in claim 1 wherein the step of attaching a pulling tool to a wedge includes the step of frictionally retaining said tool on said wedge.
- 5. A method as in claim 1 wherein the step of adjustably attaching the pulling fixture in a radial position on the shaft of said rotor includes the step of adjusting the pulling fixture to be centered on the shaft of said rotor.
- 6. A method as in claim 3 wherein the tool attaching step and said operating step are repeated when removing a wedge and when the length of said wedge exceeds the distance between the attached fixture and said coil slot.
- 7. A method as in claim 6 wherein said tool is initially attached to the outer surface of said wedge and attached to the inner surface of said wedge when said tool attaching and operating steps are repeated.
- 8. A method as in claim 3 wherein the step of attaching a pulling tool to a wedge includes the step of frictionally retaining said tool on said wedge.
- 9. A method as set forth in claim 6 wherein said tool attaching step includes the step of frictionally retaining said tool on said wedge.
