Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] This invention relates generally to a gift wrapper and a method for wrapping a container using a gift wrapper.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] Conventional gift wrapping methods and materials present several difficulties that often turn gift-giving into a chore, that is put off to the last minute. Presently, when someone attempts to wrap a gift, most people either utilize wrapping paper or a gift bag. The first difficulty of wrapping a gift with wrapping paper begins with the several necessary components to simply wrap a gift. The gift-giver must have wrapping paper, an adhesive, and scissors for cutting the necessary amount of paper, for example.

[0003] An additional difficulty arises in that some persons do not choose to use wrapping paper for gifts because the wrapped gift is often viewed aesthetically. This difficulty may persuade a gift-giver not to give a certain gift that might be difficult to wrap, or not to give a gift at all. Plus, wrapping paper cannot be reused, and the tape commonly used to secure the paper to the gift often damages the packaging of the gift.

[0004] In an effort to simplify conventional techniques, gift bags have become a commonly used method of wrapping a gift. However, gift bags can become very expensive and still require further components. For example, the gift-giver utilizing a gift bag often must provide tissue paper wrapped around the gift to give the appearance that the gift is hidden from the recipient's plain view. An additional difficulty with gift bags is that they are often viewed as plain and unimaginative. This gives the impression that the gift-giver did not put much effort into the gift-giving act.

[0005] Accordingly, conventional techniques and products for wrapping a gift do not provide an inexpensive, simple, easy to use, reusable and non-destructive gift wrapper that adapts to gifts of varying shapes and sizes.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] It is therefore desirable that the invention overcome these and other drawbacks of present gift wrappers, combinations and methods.

[0007] Thus, there is a need to provide a gift wrapper that is easy to use, adaptable to containers of various shapes and sizes, reusable, easily removed from the container without causing damage to the container, and inexpensive.

[0008] To achieve this invention, as embodied and broadly described herein, a gift wrapper is provided. The gift wrapper comprises a flexible, panel member and a fastening device. The flexible panel member has front and back opposing sides, upper and lower edges, first and second opposing edges, a first hole and a second hole. The first hole is substantially near the first opposing edge, and the second hole is substantially near the second opposing edge. The fastening device has a first end, a first portion adjacent to the first end, a second end, a second portion adjacent to the second end, and a middle portion interposed between the first portion and second portion. The first end and first portion of the fastening device are threaded through the first hole from the back side of the panel member, and project out of the first hole on the front side of the panel member. The second end and second portion of the fastening device are threaded through the second hole from the back side of the panel member, and project out of the second hole on the front side of the panel member.

[0009] Accordingly, when the first end and first portion of the fastening device are pulled over the first opposing edge of the panel member and towards the second end of the fastening device, and around to the front side of the panel member, and the second end and second portion of the fastening device are pulled over the second opposing edge of the panel member and towards the first end of the fastening device and around to the front side of the panel member, the first and second opposing edges are overlappable. The back side of the panel member defines an inner surface of the gift wrapper. The front side of the panel member defines an outer surface of the gift wrapper. Moreover, the first end and second end of the fastening device are attachable on the front side of the panel member to retain the gift wrapper.

[0010] In a further embodiment of the invention, a gift wrapper further includes a first adhesive device placed substantially centrally on the back side of the panel member. The first adhesive device has a panel member attachment surface and a container attachment surface. The panel member attachment surface has an adhesive thereon for affixation to the panel member. The container attachment surface has a non-destructive, releasable adhesive thereon for temporary affixation to a container.

[0011] The gift wrapper further includes a second adhesive device placed along the upper edge of the back side of the panel member. The second adhesive device has a panel member attachment surface and a craft material attachment surface. The panel member attachment surface has an adhesive thereon for affixation to the panel member. The craft material attachment surface has an adhesive thereon for affixation to a craft material member, the craft material member having an upper portion, a lower portion, a first opposing end and a second opposing end. The lower edge of the craft material member is attached to the craft material attachment surface of the second adhesive device such that the upper portion of the craft material member extends past the upper edge of the panel member.
