The accompanying drawings, which are included to provide a further understanding of the disclosure and are incorporated in and constitute a part of this specification, illustrate embodiments of the disclosure, and together with the description serve to explain the embodiments.
The disclosure will now be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which various embodiments are shown. This disclosure may, however, be embodied in many different forms, and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein. Rather, these embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the scope of the disclosure to those skilled in the art.
Like reference numerals refer to like elements throughout. As used herein, a reference number may indicate a singular element or plural elements. For example, a reference number labeling a singular form of an element within the drawing figures may be used to reference plural of the singular element within the text of the specification.
In the drawings, sizes, thicknesses, ratios, and dimensions of the elements may be exaggerated for ease of description and for clarity. Like numbers refer to like elements throughout.
As used herein, the singular forms, “a,” “an,” and “the” are intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise.
In the specification and the claims, the term “and/or” is intended to include any combination of the terms “and” and “or” for the purpose of its meaning and interpretation. For example, “A and/or B” may be understood to mean “A, B, or A and B.” The terms “and” and “or” may be used in the conjunctive or disjunctive sense and may be understood to be equivalent to “and/or.”
In the specification and the claims, the phrase “at least one of” is intended to include the meaning of “at least one selected from the group of” for the purpose of its meaning and interpretation. For example, “at least one of A and B” may be understood to mean “A, B, or A and B.”
It will be understood that, although the terms first, second, etc., may be used herein to describe various elements, these elements should not be limited by these terms. These terms are only used to distinguish one element from another element. For example, a first element may be referred to as a second element, and similarly, a second element may be referred to as a first element without departing from the scope of the disclosure.
The spatially relative terms “below”, “beneath”, “lower”, “above”, “upper”, or the like, may be used herein for ease of description to describe the relations between one element or component and another element or component as illustrated in the drawings. It will be understood that the spatially relative terms are intended to encompass different orientations of the device in use or operation, in addition to the orientation depicted in the drawings. For example, in the case where a device illustrated in the drawing is turned over, the device positioned “below” or “beneath” another device may be placed “above” another device. Accordingly, the illustrative term “below” may include both the lower and upper positions. The device may also be oriented in other directions and thus the spatially relative terms may be interpreted differently depending on the orientations.
It will be understood that when an element (or a region, a layer, a portion, or the like) is referred to as “being on”, “connected to” or “coupled to” another element in the specification, it can be directly disposed on, connected or coupled to another element mentioned above, or intervening elements may be disposed therebetween.
It will be understood that the terms “connected to” or “coupled to” may include a physical or electrical connection or coupling.
The terms “overlap” or “overlapped” mean that a first object may be above or below or to a side of a second object, and vice versa. Additionally, the term “overlap” may include layer, stack, face or facing, extending over, covering, or partly covering or any other suitable term as would be appreciated and understood by those of ordinary skill in the art.
When an element is described as ‘not overlapping’ or ‘to not overlap’ another element, this may include that the elements are spaced apart from each other, offset from each other, or set aside from each other or any other suitable term as would be appreciated and understood by those of ordinary skill in the art.
The terms “face” and “facing” mean that a first element may directly or indirectly oppose a second element. In a case in which a third element intervenes between the first and second element, the first and second element may be understood as being indirectly opposed to one another, although still facing each other.
The terms “comprises,” “comprising,” “includes,” and/or “including,”, “has,” “have,” and/or “having,” and variations thereof when used in this specification, specify the presence of stated features, integers, steps, operations, elements, components, and/or groups thereof, but do not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, integers, steps, operations, elements, components, and/or groups thereof.
The phrase “in a plan view” means viewing the object from the top, and the phrase “in a schematic cross-sectional view” means viewing a cross-section of which the object is vertically cut from the side.
“About” or “approximately” as used herein is inclusive of the stated value and means within an acceptable range of deviation for the particular value as determined by one of ordinary skill in the art, considering the measurement in question and the error associated with measurement of the particular quantity (i.e., the limitations of the measurement system). For example, “about” may mean within one or more standard deviations, or within ±30%, 20%, 10%, 5% of the stated value.
Unless otherwise defined or implied herein, all terms (including technical and scientific terms) used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by one of ordinary skill in the art to which the disclosure pertains. It will be further understood that terms, such as those defined in commonly used dictionaries, should be interpreted as having a meaning that is consistent with their meaning in the context of the relevant art and will not be interpreted in an idealized or overly formal sense unless expressly so defined herein.
Illustrative, non-limiting embodiments will be more clearly understood from the following detailed description in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

The first portion P1 may have a substantially flat surface. The first portion P1 may correspond to the first display area DA1 of the foldable display device 1000. In an embodiment, the first portion P1 may be disposed to cover or to overlap the first display area DA1 of the foldable display device 1000, and accordingly, the first portion P1 may protect the first display area DA1 of the foldable display device 1000.
The second portion P2 may be spaced apart from the first portion P1. The second portion P2 may have a substantially flat surface. The second portion P2 may correspond to the second display area DA2 of the foldable display device 1000.
The foldable portion P3 may be positioned between the first portion P1 and the second portion P2. The foldable portion P3 may correspond to the foldable display area DA3 of foldable display device 1000. Since the foldable display device 1000 may be repeatedly folded or unfolded in the foldable display area DA3, the foldable portion P3 may be flexible to be repeatedly folded or unfolded. In other words, the foldable portion P3 may be elastically deformed by an external force. Also, the foldable portion P3 may protect the foldable display area DA3 of the foldable display device 1000.
In an embodiment, at least a portion of the first portion P1, at least a portion of the second portion P2, and at least a portion of the foldable portion P3 may be chemically strengthened. By chemically strengthening, rigidity of the glass article GA may be relatively increased. The chemical strengthening will be described later with reference to

In an embodiment, in the neutral state, the foldable portion P3 may have a first radius of curvature R. Accordingly, in the neutral state, the first portion P1 and the second portion P2 may form an angle θ.
In an embodiment, in the neutral state, the angle θ between the first portion P1 and the second portion P2 may be greater than or equal to about 60° and less than or equal to about 120°. For example, the angle θ between the first portion P1 and the second portion P2 may be greater than or equal to about 80° and less than or equal to about 100°. In case that the size of the angle θ between the first part P1 and the second part P2 is about 60° or more and about 120° or less, magnitude of a stress applied to the foldable portion P3 may be relatively reduced. In other words, in case that the glass article GA is elastically deformed between a folded state (see

Referring to
In an embodiment, a thickness T1 of the first portion P1, a thickness T2 of the second portion P2, and a thickness T3 of the foldable portion P3 may be substantially the same. In the glass article GA of the disclosure, even if the thickness T3 of the foldable portion P3 is not less than the thickness T1 of the first portion P1 or the thickness T2 of the second portion P2, magnitude of the stress applied to the foldable portion P3 may be relatively small in case that the glass article GA is elastically deformed. In case that the thickness T3 of the foldable portion P3 is substantially the same as the thickness T1 of the first portion P1 and the thickness T2 of the second portion P2, a rigidity of the foldable portion P3 may be substantially the same as each of a rigidity of the first portion P1 and a rigidity of the second portion P2.
In an embodiment, the thickness T1 of the first portion P1, the thickness T2 of the second portion P2, and the thickness T3 of the foldable portion P3 may be about 0.01 mm or more and about 0.2 mm or less. In case that the thickness T1 of the first portion P1, the thickness T2 of the second portion P2, and the thickness T3 of the foldable portion P3 are less than about 0.01 mm, the rigidity of the first portion P1, the rigidity of the second portion P2, and the rigidity of the foldable portion P3 may be relatively small, so the glass article GA may be damaged by the user's touch of the foldable display device 1000. In case that the thickness T1 of the first portion, the thickness T2 of the second portion P2, and the thickness T3 of the foldable portion P3 is larger than about 0.2 mm, a flexibility of the foldable portion P3 may be relatively small. The glass article GA may be relatively readily damaged due to repeated folding or unfolding of the foldable display device 1000.

In an embodiment, bending the glass substrate and applying heat H to the curved glass substrate G may be performed in the chamber CH. The chamber CH may be insulated from an external environment.
In an embodiment, the heat H may be greater than or equal to about 400° C. and less than or equal to about 900° C.
Referring to
In an embodiment, the chemical strengthening treatment may include forming a reinforcement layer on a surface of the glass substrate G by precipitating the glass substrate G in a solution SOL.
The reinforcement layer may be defined as an area of the surface of the glass substrate G in which a first ion disposed in the surface of the glass substrate G is exchanged with a second ion included in the solution SOL. This will be described later in detail with reference to
Referring to
The first ion may be disposed in the surface of the glass substrate G. The solution SOL may include the second ion. An ionic radius of the first ion may be smaller than an ionic radius of the second ion. In an embodiment, the first ion may be a sodium ion, and the second ion may be a potassium ion. In case that the second ion is a potassium ion, the solution SOL may include potassium nitrate.
In case that the solution SOL is heated after precipitating the glass substrate G in the solution SOL, the first ion disposed in the surface of the glass substrate G may be exchanged with the second ion. The ionic radius of the second ion may be greater than the ionic radius of the first ion, and accordingly, a rigidity of the surface of the glass substrate G may be relatively increased.
