The disclosure relates to sandpaper devices and more particularly pertains to a new sandpaper device for performing sanding work while wearing a glove. The device includes a glove, a first mating unit attached to the glove, a sheet of sandpaper shaped like the glove and a second mating unit attached to the sheet of sandpaper which releasably engages the first mating unit.
The prior art relates to sandpaper devices including a variety of sanding gloves that each includes a sheet of sandpaper that is attached to a glove such that the sheet of sandpaper partially covers the glove. In no instance does the prior art disclose a glove and sheet of sandpaper which is shaped to cover an entire bottom side of the glove and which is removably attachable to the glove.
An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a glove which has a plurality of fingers and a thumb which can be worn on a user's hand. A first mating unit is attached to the glove and the first mating unit extends along each of the plurality of fingers and the thumb. A sheet of sandpaper has a plurality of peninsulas each extending away from a central portion of the sheet of sandpaper. A second mating unit is bonded to the sheet of sandpaper and the second mating unit is releasably matable to the first mating unit. In this way the sandpaper is attached to the glove to facilitate the user to perform sanding work while wearing the glove.
There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
As best illustrated in
A first mating unit 26 is provided and the first mating unit 26 is attached to the glove 12. Additionally, the first mating unit 26 extends along each of the plurality of fingers 14 and the thumb 16. The first mating unit 26 is positioned on the palm 20 and the first mating unit 26 extends along a bottom side 28 of each of the plurality of fingers 14 of the glove 12. Additionally, the first mating unit 26 extends along a bottom side 30 of the thumb 16. The first mating unit 26 wraps around the tip 22 of each of the plurality of fingers 14 and the tip 22 of the thumb 16. The first mating unit 26 has a lower edge 32 that is spaced from the cuff 24 and the first mating unit 26 may comprise a hook portion of a hook and loop fastener or other type of multiple use mating unit.
A sheet of sandpaper 34 is provided which has a plurality of cut outs 36 strategically arranged to define a plurality of peninsulas 38 each extending away from a central portion 40 of the sheet of sandpaper 34. The sheet of sandpaper 34 has a first surface 42 that is treated with an abrasive material thereby facilitating the first surface 42 to sand a work surface for smoothing the work surface. The abrasive material may be sand, synthetic granules or any other granular material that is commonly employed in the construction of sandpaper. The plurality of peninsulas 38 includes a plurality of finger peninsulas 44 that is each directed forwardly from the central portion 40. Furthermore, the plurality of peninsulas 38 includes a thumb peninsula 46 that is positioned on a first lateral side 48 of the central portion 40 and is directed forwardly from the central portion 40. The sheet of sandpaper 34 may be manufactured in a variety of grits ranging between forty grit and two twenty grit.
A second mating unit 50 is provided and the second mating unit 50 is bonded to the sheet of sandpaper 34. The second mating unit 50 is releasably matable to the first mating unit 26 for attaching the sandpaper 34 to the glove 12. In this way the user 19 can perform sanding work while wearing the glove 12. The second mating unit 50 completely covers a second surface 52 of the sheet of sandpaper 34. Additionally, each of the plurality of finger peninsulas 44 extends along a respective one of the plurality of fingers 14 of the glove 12 and each of the plurality of finger peninsulas 44 wraps around the tip 22 of the respective finger 14. The thumb peninsula 46 extends along the thumb 16 of the glove 12 and the thumb peninsula 46 wraps around the tip 22 of the thumb 16. The second mating unit 50 may comprise a loop portion of a hook and loop fastener or other type of multiple use mating unit that is complementary to the first mating unit 26.
In use, the user 19 wears the glove 12 and the sheet of sandpaper 34 is applied to the glove 12. In this way the user 19 can perform sanding work without having to grip a piece of sandpaper. Thus, the user 19 can quickly switch between a variety of tasks while wearing the glove 12 that are not related to sanding work. Furthermore, the user 19 maintains physical dexterity while wearing the glove 12 to enable to user 19 to perform nearly any task while wearing the glove 12. The glove 12 can be worn with or without the sheet of sandpaper 34 and the sheet of sandpaper 34 can be replaced when the abrasive material is depleted.
With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
