Claims
- 1. A process for producing glucopyranosido-1,6-mannitol, comprising hydrogenating neutral aqueous solutions of isomaltulose having an isomaltulose content of greater than 50% by weight in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst under a hydrogen pressure of from 30 to 100 kg/cm.sup.2 at a temperature of from 100.degree. to 130.degree. C. for a time sufficient to complete hydrogenation; thereafter cooling the hydrogenated solution to cause said glucopyranosido-1,6-mannitol to crystallize as a first substance from said solution and separating the glucopyranosido-1,6-mannitol from the resulting suspension.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein the hydrogenation is carried out at a hydrogen pressure of about 100 kg/cm.sup.2, a temperature of about 120.degree. C. and for a period of about 3 hours.
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein the hydrogenated solution is cooled at a cooling rate of 0.5.degree.-2.degree./hour under constant agitation to a temperature of about 30.degree. C. to cause said glucopyranosido-1,6-mannitol to crystallize.
