Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula ##STR12## wherein W, X, Y and Z are individually selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, --OH, alkoxy of 1 to 6 carbon atoms and --O--G.sub.s derived from G.sub.s --OH wherein G.sub.s --OH is a member of the group consisting of monosaccharide, disaccharide and derivatives thereof with the proviso that at least of W, X, Y and Z is --OG.sub.s.
- 2. A compound of claim 1 wherein X is --OH or --OG.sub.s and W is --OH or OG.sub.s when Y and Z are hydrogen or W is --OH or --OG.sub.s when Y and Z are --OH or --OG.sub.s or W is --OH or --OG.sub.s when Y is hydrogen and Z is --OH or --OG.sub.s or W is hydrogen when Y and Z are --OH or --OG.sub.s or W is --OH or --G.sub.s when Y is alkoxy and Z is hydrogen, or W=--OH or --OG.sub.3, Y is --OH or --OG.sub.3 and Z is H with the proviso that at least one of W, X, Y and Z being --OG.sub.s.
- 3. A compound of claim 1 wherein X is --OH or --OG.sub.s and W is --OH or --OG.sub.s when Y and Z are hydrogen or W is --OH or --OG.sub.s when Y is --OH or OG.sub.s and Z is hydrogen or W is --OH or --OG.sub.s when Y is alkoxy and Z is hydrogen with the proviso that at least one of W, X, Y and Z is --OG.sub.s.
- 4. A compound of claim 1 wherein --OG.sub.s is selected from the group consisting of abequose, rhamnose, arabinose, ribose, xylose, 2-deoxyribose, glucose, galactose, mannose, 2-deoxyglucose, fructose, fucose, N-acetylglucosamine, N-acetylallosamine, galactosamine, mannosamine, saccharose, lactose, maltose, cellobiose and trehalose.
- 5. A compound of claim 1 wherein --OG.sub.s is glucose or lactose.
- 6. A composition for combatting vascular diseases comprising an amount of a compound of claim 1 sufficient to treat vascular disease and an inert pharmaceutical carrier.
- 7. A method of treating vascular diseases in warm-blooded animals comprising administering to warm-blooded animals an amount of a compound of claim 1 sufficient to treat vascular diseases.
- 8. A process for the preparation of a compound of claim 1 comprising reacting a compound of the formula ##STR13## wherein W', X', Y' and Z' are individually selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, --OH, alkoxy of 1 to 6 carbon atoms and --OG.sub.x, G.sub.x being a hydroxy protective group capable of being removed in a neutral or basic medium with a glycosyl diazirine of the formula ##STR14## when G.sub.p is derived from a G.sub.p --OH sugar, all hydroxyl groups except that on the anomeric carbon being protected wherein the hydroxyl on the anomeric position and the hydrogen attached to the same carbon atom are substituted with azi.
