Abstract
A golf club grip comprises a tubular body, at least one weight member, and a tape body. The tubular body is fastened with a golf club shaft. The weight member is fastened to the outer surface of the tubular body such that the longitudinal side of the weight member is parallel to the axial direction of the tubular body. The tape body is spirally wound around the tubular body to cover up the weight member.
Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates generally to a golf club, and more particularly to a weighted grip of the golf club.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] As shown in FIG. 1, a prior art golf club 10 has a rubber grip 12, which is prone to wear and must be replaced with a new one by a golf club shop operator. It is conceivably inconvenient for a user of the golf club 10 to make a trip to the golf club shop for the replacement of the worn grip.
[0003] A do-it-yourself grip was introduced in place of the rubber grip 12 described above. The grip is tubular in shape and is provided in the outer surface thereof with a tape of a synthetic leather. The tape is spirally wound around the tubular grip which is similar in outer diameter and profile to the rubber grip 12 described above. As the tubular grip is worn out, it can be replaced by the user of the golf club. The tubular grip is lighter in weight than the rubber grip 12 by about 5 to 20 grams. As a result, the tubular grip is apt to upset the location of the center of gravity of the golf club. In other words, the center of gravity tends to be relocated in the direction toward the golf club head.
[0004] As shown in FIGS. 2-3, a prior art golf club 20 is provided with a tubular body 22 fitted thereover. The tubular body 22 is spirally wound around with a tape 24 which is provided in the underside 26 thereof with a lead tape 28 for a weight compensation. The weighted tape 24 is defective in design in that the lead tape 28 is different from the bottom layer of non-woven cloth of the tape 24, thereby resulting in complication in the process of attaching them together. In addition, the lead tape 28 is different in flexibility and expansibility from the tape 24 of a synthetic leather. As a result, the lead tape 28 is easily stripped from the tape 24 at the time when the tape 24 is wound up for storage or wound around the golf club 20. In addition, the lead tape 28 tends to undermine the shock-absorbing capability of the tape 24. The lead tape 28 and the tape 24 are not recyclable. In light of the lead tape 28, the tape 24 is incompatible with other conventional grip tapes in existence.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0005] The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a golf club grip free of the deficiencies of the prior art golf club grips described above.
[0006] The golf club grip of the present invention comprises a tubular body, at least one weight member, and a tape body. The tubular body is fitted over the golf club. The weight member is fastened to the outer surface of the tubular body. The tape body is used to wind spirally around the weight member.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0015] As shown in FIGS. 4-7, a golf club grip 30 of the present invention comprises a tubular body 32, a weight member 34, and a tape body 36.
[0016] The tubular body 32 is made of a rubber or plastic material and is provided with a receiving hole 40 extending along the axis thereof. The receiving hole 40 is intended to receive a golf club shaft 42. The tubular body 32 is provided at both longitudinal ends with a stopper 43, 44.
[0017] The weight member 34 is a metal platelike member having a longitudinal side 46 and a short side 48. The weight member 34 is joined with the tubular body 32 in such a manner that the longitudinal side 46 is substantially parallel to the axis S of the tubular body 32, and that the weight member 34 is attached to the outer surface of the tubular body 32 by an adhesive, and further that the weight member 34 is located between the two stoppers 43 and 44.
[0018] The tape body 36 is made of a natural leather, such as pig skin or cow skin, or a synthetic leather of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), or polyurethane (PU). The tape body 36 is spirally wound around the tubular body 32 between the two stoppers 43 and 44 such that the weight member 34 is wrapped by the tape body 36.
[0019] The weight member 34 accounts for only a small area of the tubular body 32 without compromising the shock-absorbing capability of the tape body 36. In addition, the weight member 34 and the tape body 36 are separable to allow the weight member 34 to be recycled.
[0020] As shown in FIG. 8, a golf club grip 60 of the second preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises a tubular body 62, three weight members 64, and a tape body 66.
[0021] The tubular body 62 is provided with a receiving hole 68 extending along the direction of the axis of the tubular body 62. The receiving hole 68 is intended to receive golf club shaft 70. The tubular body 62 is provided in the outer surface with three recessed portions 72 which are equidistantly arranged.
[0022] The three weight members 64 are disposed in the three recessed portions 72 and have thickness equal to depth of the recessed portions 72 of the tubular body 62, thereby providing the golf club grip 60 with a gripping comfort. In addition, the weight members 64 are fastened with the tubular body 62 such that they are symmetrical to the central axis of the tubular body 62. As a result, the grip 60 is evenly weighted.
