BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Gosball is an invention in the field of sports. Sports, such as auto racing, baseball, basketball, bicycling, boxing, football, hockey, karate, lacrosse, polo, rugby, soccer, volleyball, wrestling, to name a few, are generally described as contact sports, with a heavy dose of risky competition, confrontation, tackling, blocking, pushing. shoveling, and injuries. Many other traditional games are non-contact sports (such as bowling, field and track, golf, gymnastics, high jump, hurdles, long jump, skiing, swimming, and tennis), but the games are nevertheless amenable to argument, confrontation, injuries and, in some cases, violent behaviors.

In traditional sports such as listed above, players are limited to selected players who meet predetermined qualifying criteria. The games are played mostly in the daytime, outdoors or in closed indoor facilities. Owners, coaches, and managers make big decisions, while the players play, and spectators watch and cheer or jeer. The main goal is to entertain the spectators, while players rely heavily on technical skills and strong physical strength.

Gosball, as an invention, is a brand of sport that focuses its game on strategic thinking, physical exercise, and fun. The sport is uniquely designed to foster non-contact, non-combatant, and non-confrontational competitive games that are played by anyone, anywhere, and anytime. The players play the game generally in one direction and are required to deliberately avoid physical contact to minimize injuries.

Gosball requires the players to develop and execute winning non-confrontational strategies to win games. The primary objective of the game is for both the players and the spectators to have fun. The process is democratically unique-involving players, coaches, and spectators in decision making, plays, penalties, and more.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Gosball is inexpensive and easy to understand and play indoors or outdoors by almost anyone. It is a game played by one or more players using a spoon-like device to lift a ball from a bowl in point A (the base) and walk/run the ball along marked novel lines to a bucket in point B (the pit). The player or team with the most balls in the bucket within a given time wins the game. The game is designed to be played physically in person or electronically as a video/AI game. In either game, the same techniques, elements, and components apply. For maximum physical benefit, the in-person version is recommended. The video/AI game version is recommended for maximum strategic thinking benefits.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The description—A Gosball game comprises of round(s) and a round comprises of lifts. A lift is when a player uses a lifter (a spoon-like or similar device) to lift a ball from the bowl located at the base on one end and walk/run the ball in the lifter to a bucket located at the pit on the other end of the field. The number of lifts depends on the number of balls in the bowl. The number of balls in the bowl(s) is determined by the player(s) or teams before the game starts. Gosball requires at a minimum the following items to play: a player, a lifter (a spoon-like or similar device for lifting), small balls, bowls, buckets, a timer (optional), and a space (room, playfield, etc.) marked as a base on one end and as a pit on the other end of the playfield. For a game with two or more players or large team(s), additional lifters, balls; bowls and buckets and a larger room or playfield space may be needed.

The levels of Gosball competition range from intense to complex, to simple. The duration of a game depends on the numbers of lifts, rounds, and timeframe involved as determined by the players before a game starts. The players are highly encouraged to strategize at the beginning of a round and throughout a game on how best to lift the balls from the bowl to the bucket in the shortest amount of time. Intense and complex games are designed and suitable for more formal competitions, such as organized Gosball teams and clubs in local, regional, national, and international sport competitions and other arenas. The same techniques, elements and components apply at all levels of competitions for maximum mental, physical and fun benefits. Players may decide by a simple majority whether they need referee(s) and umpire(s). In some games, a trophy or some monetary reward raises the stake and increases the competitive spirit and the excitement. Simple games are organized and recommended for individual(s), friends, and families in an informal setting, such as after a holiday meal, a birthday celebration, or just hanging out at the recreational park having fun.

The technical elements, components, and methods of the invention—The invention comprises of the following technical elements, components, and methods:

    • The equipment (lifters, balls, bases, bowls, pits, buckets, marked novel lines, field lengths and markers, etc.) should be the same size and weight.
    • A player can only lift one ball at a time from the bowl located at the base, then skillfully walk/run/maneuver the ball in a lifter along a straight/zigzag/loop-intersection lines and ditch the ball into the bucket located at the pit on the other end of the playfield.
    • A player may pass or transfer a ball to other player(s) only on lifters. (No physical contacts any time during game. Physical contact is a penalty with the offender returning to start from the base)
    • Throwing or kicking ball(s) into the bucket is prohibited (and counts as a penalty requiring the ball to be returned to the bowl or discounted from the bucket).

Players may modify or add to these four cardinal technical elements, components, and methods of the invention, provided players agree to the same technical elements, components, and methods, and are having fun. The technical elements, components, and methods ensure fairness, mental, and physical benefits to and excitement for the participants, including players, spectators, and referees (if any).

The goals of the invention—The goal of Gosball is to promote strategic thinking, physical exercise, and excitement. All in one game. The game forces individuals and teams to think, plan and execute winning strategies while working out and having fun.

The straight-loop-zigzag-intersection lines at the advanced level, the straight-zigzag lines at the intermediate level, and the straight lines at the basic level are invented as mechanism to cause (safely engineer) competition and induce behavioral effects in the players and the spectators.
