Claims
- 1. Production apparatus suitable for withdrawing oil from an oil-bearing formation, said apparatus comprising a well casing, a perforated hollow production radial tube extending from the well casing into the formation, the interior of said radial tube and well bore being in fluid communication, and a substantially continuous annular jacket of gravel pack particles disposed between the exterior of said radial tube and the surrounding formation, and at least one other perforated radial tube extending into said formation with a substantially continuous annular jacket of gravel pack particles disposed between it and the surrounding formation.
- 2. The production apparatus of claim 1 in which said well bore is substantially vertical and said radial tube is substantially horizontal, together with whipstock means through which said radial pipe projects.
- 3. The production apparatus of claim 1 in which said radial tube is substantially free of gravel pack particles.
- 4. The production apparatus of claim 1 in which said well casing is severed from said radial tube near its proximal end.
- 5. The production apparatus of claim 1 together with multiple perforations near the distal end of said radial tube and plug filter means disposed within said radial tube adjacent said multiple perforations, said plug filter means being capable of substantially blocking gravel pack flow but of passing fluids.
- 6. The production apparatus of claim 5 in which said plug filter means comprises a bottle brush-like permeable plug.
- 7. The production apparatus of claim 1 together with a hollow tube liner disposed within said radial pipe adjacent to said radial pipe perforations for passing oil from said formation into said radial pipe while substantially blocking passage of the gravel packing from the jacket into the radial pipe.
- 8. The production apparatus of claim 7 in which said liner comprises a continuous flexible hollow tube with openings of a size to pass oil but not gravel packing.
- 9. The production apparatus of claim 8 in which said liner openings comprise elongated slots.
- 10. The production apparatus of claim 9 in which said liner comprises a flexible tube formed into a spiral and said slots comprise spiral openings between adjacent portions of said spiral.
- 11. Production apparatus suitable for withdrawing oil from an oil-bearing formation, said apparatus comprising a well casing, a perforated hollow production radial tube extending from the well casing into the formation, the interior of said radial tube and well bore being in fluid communication, and a substantially continuous annular jacket of gravel pack particles disposed between the exterior of said radial tube and the surrounding formation, an array of ports disposed towards the distal end of said radial tube, the forward end of said liner being disposed adjacent said port array, and plug filter means disposed at said port array and capable of substantially blocking gravel pack flow but of passing fluids.
- 12. Production apparatus suitable for withdrawing oil from an oil-bearing formation, said apparatus comprising a well casing, a perforated hollow production radial tube extending from the well casing into the formation, the interior said radial tube and well bore being in fluid communication, and a hollow tube liner disposed within said radial pipe adjacent to said radial pipe perforations for passing oil from said formation into said radial pipe while substantially blocking passage into the radial pipe of particles of the size of gravel packing.
