Claims
- 1. A composition for treatment of a surface wound or a gastrointestinal injury, disease, or ulcer, the composition comprising:
a milk product extract composition comprising:
a plurality of basic cell growth stimulating factors from a milk product of a ungulate mammal, the growth stimulating factors:
having basic to approximately neutral isoelectric points, being enriched with a property of stimulating proliferation of rat myoblasts, being extracted from milk product in concentrated form, and comprising less than about 20 wt-% of milk protein present in the milk product; and a pharmaceutically or veterinarily acceptable diluent, carrier, or excipient.
- 2. The composition according to claim 1, comprising saline solution.
- 3. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said pharmaceutically or veterinarily acceptable diluent, carrier, or excipient comprises saline solution.
- 4. The composition according to claim 1 further comprising an effective amount of antibiotic, antiseptic, anesthetic, or mixture thereof.
- 5. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said milk product comprises cheese whey.
- 6. A method for preparing a milk product extract composition;
the composition comprising a plurality of basic cell growth stimulating factors from a milk product of a ungulate mammal, the growth stimulating factors:
having basic to approximately neutral isoelectric points, being enriched with a property of stimulating proliferation of rat myoblasts, being extracted from milk product in concentrated form, comprising less than about 20 wt-% of milk protein present in the milk product; the milk product extract being prepared by:
providing a source of milk product; selecting a cationic exchange resin:
suitable for selectively adsorbing a plurality of basic cell growth stimulating factors enriched with a property of stimulating proliferation of rat myoblasts, such that the more basic components of the milk product are adsorbed thereon, and wherein the major proteins with acidic isoelectric points in the milk products are not adsorbed; equilibrating said cationic exchange resin with an equilibration buffer; applying the filtrate to the equilibrated cation exchange resin; eluting the cationic exchange resin with a high ionic strength buffer solution suitable for such eluting; and concentrating the milk product extract to obtain a milk protein extract enriched in growth promoting activity and stimulating proliferation of rat myoblasts.
- 7. The method according to claim 6, wherein said milk product comprises cheese whey.
- 8. The method according to claim 6, wherein the cation exchange resin comprises an agarose-based resin.
- 9. The method according to claim 6, wherein the equilibration buffer comprises 1M NaCl containing 0.25M NH4OH or 0.4 NaCl added to 10 mM sodium citrate at pH 6.5.
- 10. The method according to claim 6, wherein concentrating comprises ultrafiltration using a 3 kD excluding membrane.
