Claims
- 1. A method for coating an aluminum oxide fiber with platinum comprising the steps of:
- dissolving guanidine 2-ethyl-hexanoate in an organic solvent to form a solution, said guanidine 2-ethyl-hexanoate serving as a vehicle and binder;
- adding guanidine chloroplatinate to said solution;
- drawing said fiber through said solution thereby forming a coated fiber; and
- heating said coated fiber to drive off substantially all organic components and to bond the platinum to said fiber.
- 2. A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein said coated fiber is cooled in ambient air.
- 3. A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein said coated fiber is heated to about 1150.degree. C.
- 4. A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein said organic solvent is ethanol.
- 5. A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein said aluminum oxide fiber has a diameter of about 0.005".
