Claims
- 1. A combination for forming a guide coat on a vehicle surface to highlight irregularities in the smoothness of the vehicle surface as part of a smoothing or refinishing operation, the combination comprising:an applicator; a container having an outlet opening and including a separator, the separator having perforations and being positioned within the container to divide the container and define a first region of the container adjacent the outlet opening and a second region of the container on a side of the separator opposite the outlet opening; and means for forming a guide coat on a vehicle surface as part of a smoothing or refinishing operation, the forming means being finely divided, dry particulate material located in the second region of the container, which particulate material will remain on rough portions of the vehicle surface including vertical and downward facing vehicle surface portions but will not remain on or can easily be wiped or blown off substantially smooth portions of the vehicle surface, wherein the applicator is insertable into the first region of the container so that particulate material passing through the perforations contacts and adheres to the applicator, and wherein the applicator is removable from the first region so that contact of the applicator with the vehicle surface will form the guide coat of the particulate material on the vehicle surface as part of a smoothing or refinishing operation.
- 2. A combination according to claim 1, wherein the applicator fits closely within the first region of the container to close the container.
- 3. A combination according to claim 1, wherein the applicator comprises a synthetic foam material.
- 4. A combination according to claim 1, wherein the particulate material is non-staining to paint finishes.
- 5. A combination according to claim 1, wherein the finely divided particulate material is black.
- 6. A combination according to claim 1, wherein the finely divided particulate material includes carbon black.
- 7. A combination according to claim 1, wherein the finely divided particulate material includes a drying agent.
