Claims
- 44. (New) An arm-like device for use with an imaging device for showing the placement of an orthopedic implant when inserted into the bony target comprising:
a body having a surface for guiding said implant or instrument towards said bony target along an axis; and at least one targeting arm attached at one end thereof to said body and having a second end containing at least one relatively radiopaque target marker, said arm extending between said bone and said imaging device, said radiopaque target marker establishing a path within said bony target of an implant or instrument guided along said axis of said body during insertion.
- 45. (New) The arm-like device as set forth in claim 44 wherein the instrument is selected from the group consisting of a pin, nail, screw, rod, wire and drill bit.
- 46. (New) The arm-like device as set forth in claim 44 wherein said arm is rotatably attached to said body for rotation about said axis.
- 47. (New) The arm-like device as set forth in claim 46 wherein said targeting arm can be rotated about said axis from a position aligned with the anterior-posterior plane of the body to a position aligned with the medial-lateral plane of the body.
- 48. (New) The arm-like device as set forth in claim 47 wherein said arm establishes a plane within said bony target when co-planar with a beam of said imaging device, which plane includes said axis of said guiding surface.
- 49. (New) The arm-like device as set forth in claim 44 wherein said targeting arm can be rotated about said axis from a position aligned with the anterior-posterior plane of the body to a position aligned with the medial-lateral plane of the body.
- 50. (New) The arm-like device as set forth in claim 44 wherein two targeting arms are attached to said body angularly displaced from one another with respect to said axis.
- 51. (New) The arm-like device as set forth in claim 49 wherein one of said targeting arms is oriented in the anterior-posterior plane of the body and the other is oriented in the medial-lateral plane.
- 52. (New) The arm-like device as set forth in claim 44 wherein the targeting arm has two spaced radiopaque markets located in a single plane.
- 53. (New) The arm-like device as set forth in claim 49 wherein said angular offset is 90°.
- 53. (New) The arm-like device as set forth in claim 51 wherein two targeting arms are attached to said body angularly displaced from one another with respect to said axis.
- 54. (New) An arm-like targeting device comprising:
a body having an instrument or implant guide surface and an arm having a portion aligned with an axis along said guide surface, said portion including a radiopaque marker extending in a direction parallel to the axis of the guide surface, said portion extending between an imaging device and a bony target to display the path of an implant or instrument within said target when guided by said guide surface.
- 55. (New) The arm-like device as set forth in claim 54 wherein the instrument is selected from the group consisting of a pin, nail, screw, rod, wire and drill bit.
- 56. (New) The arm-like device as set forth in claim 54 wherein said targeting arm can be rotated about said axis from a position aligned with the anterior-posterior plane of the body to a position aligned with the medial-lateral plane of the body.
- 57. (New) The arm-like device as set forth in claim 54 wherein said arm establishes a plane within said bony target when co-planar with a beam of said imaging device, which plane includes said axis of said guiding surface.
