Claims
- 1. A method of making a guidewire, comprising the steps of:
winding as a group at least two wires side-by-side about a mandril at a pitch angle in the range of 35° to 76°, in helical fashion to define a lumen therewithin, thus forming a guidewire having a distal end portion and a proximal end portion.
- 2. The method as set forth in claim 1, wherein the pitch angle is in the range of 35° to 72°.
- 3. The method as set forth in claim 1, further comprising the step of reducing the diameter of the outer surface of the distal end portion of the guidewire to be less than that of the proximal portion of the guidewire.
- 4. The method as set forth in claim 3, wherein the step of reducing the outer diameter of the distal end portion comprises grinding the outwardly facing portions of the helical wound wires that form the distal end portion.
- 5. The method as set forth in claim 3, wherein the wires being wound have gradually changing diameters, and the group of wires is wound to have a constant inner diameter.
