Claims
- 1. A musical string comprising:
a core wire assembly including a core wire and a terminal end portion; a cover wire being wound around said core wire, said cover wire having an end portion that is bent around said terminal end portion of said core wire.
- 2. A musical string as described in claim 1 wherein said terminal end portion includes a bead member, and wherein said core wire is bent around said bead member, and wherein said cover wire is bent around said bead member.
- 3. A musical string as described in claim 2 wherein an end portion of said cover wire projects forwardly from said bead member and is wound within the cover wire winding about said core wire.
- 4. An improved musical string cover wire winding machine, comprising:
a headstock having a rotatable spindle mounted therein; said spindle including a core wire terminal end mounting device; a tailstock having a core wire engagement chuck mounted thereto; a cover wire winding carriage being movably mounted between said headstock and said tailstock; a cover wire mounting sleeve being engaged to said spindle and functioning to mechanically engage an end of said cover wire and to bend said cover wire end into engagement with said core wire terminal end.
- 5. A machine as described in claim 4 wherein said sleeve is slidably engaged upon said spindle.
- 6. A machine as described in claim 4 wherein said sleeve is rotatably engaged with said spindle.
- 7. A machine as described in claim 4 wherein said sleeve includes a U-shaped slot formed in a cover wire engagement end thereof to mechanically bend said end of said cover wire.
- 8. A machine as described in claim 7 wherein said sleeve is activatable to slide upon said spindle to cause said bend of said cover wire end around said terminal end of said core wire.
- 9. A method for winding a cover wire around a core wire, including the steps of:
forming a cover wire having a terminal end portion thereof; bending an end portion of a cover wire around said terminal end portion of said core wire; winding said cover wire around said core wire.
- 10. A method as described in claim 9 including the further steps of causing an end portion of said cover wire to project generally parallel to said core wire during said bending step; and winding said cover wire around said core wire and said projecting end portion of said cover wire during said winding step.
- 11. A method as described in claim 9 including the further steps of:
mounting said terminal end portion of said core wire onto a rotatable spindle member; placing said end portion of said cover wire proximate said terminal end portion of said core wire; mechanically deforming said end portion of said cover wire to bend it around said terminal end portion of said core wire.
- 12. A method as described in claim 11 wherein said step of mechanically deforming said end portion of said cover wire includes the further steps of:
slidably mounting a sleeve member upon said spindle member, said sleeve member having a U-shaped slot formed in an end portion thereof; causing said U-shaped slot in said sleeve member to contact said end portion of said cover wire to mechanically catch said end portion within said U-shaped slot and to bend said end portion around said terminal end of said core wire.
