There are many types of accessories available to persons who carry guns. However, many of these accessories are not without significant drawbacks. One significant drawback is accessibility of the gun. Placing the gun on the side by one's hip, in the back or by one's leg often inhibits rapid access to the gun. There exists a need to provide a gun holder that is both easily accessible and provides a safe and secure environment for the carrying of gun. The present invention has addressed this need and provides an assembly by which a gun is mounted to a bracket in a spring-loaded/tension arrangement positions the carried gun that on the front of the belt of a user.

The barrel holder retaining ring is constructed and arranged to contact the outer rim of the barrel of a gun when said barrel holder is placed within a barrel of said gun.
As generally understood, the assembly is constructed and arranged with a mounting ring for holding said assembly on a user's belt. Although a mounting ring is shown in the several figures, it is contemplated that any securing means for securing the main body to the belt may be utilized.
The barrel holder is pivotable from an orientation substantially parallel with the mounting surface to a position up to 180° from said mounting surface.
The mounting bracket is a tension applying structure directionally urged towards said first end. It is rigid, but movable as is known in the art when using tension-applying brackets.
The present invention also includes a method for carrying a gun, said method comprising the steps of: providing a holder according to all aspects of the present invention, said providing based on a particular make, model, and shape of a gun to be held in said holder (e.g. the main body is formed based on the size and shape of the gun which is to be placed in the holder);
The method further comprises attaching said gun holder main body to a user's belt.
The method further comprises positioning said gun on said gun holder main body wherein said positioning places said trigger guard post in a position to inhibit actuation of a trigger of said gun.
The present invention provides an assembly whereby a gun 20 is worn on a belt 10 of a user. The assembly includes a gun holder main body 60 constructed and arranged to hold a gun thereon. Gun holder main body 60 is contemplated to be constructed and arranged as a single unitary piece particularly sized for a particular model of gun and secured onto a user's belt using mounting ring 46. In one embodiment, gun holder main body 60 has incorporated thereon, adjusting means whereby gun holder main body 60 is adjustable and adapts to various types of hand guns. Gun holder main body 60 is configured with a barrel holder housing 30 on one end and a first bracket clip 26 and second bracket clip 28 opposite barrel holder housing 30.
Barrel holder housing 30 has an end cap 32 with a spring retaining ring between end cap 32 and barrel holder 38. Circumferentially around barrel 38 is spring 36. Spring 36 is constructed and arranged to urge barrel holder retaining ring 42 towards the barrel of a gun when gun 20 is positioned such that barrel holder 38 is inserted into the interior barrel of gun 20. When a user inserts barrel holder 38 into the barrel of gun 20 barrel holder 38 extends inward until barrel holder retaining ring 42 contacts the surface surrounding the barrel on gun 20. A user then applies pressure urging barrel holder retaining ring 42 towards end cap 32 with resistance applied by barrel holder spring 36. Once barrel holder spring 36 is compressed a user then takes the non-barrel end of gun 20 and secures it underneath each of first retaining bracket 26 and second retaining bracket 28.
When the user releases gun 20, spring 36 urges barrel holder retainer ring 42 against gun 20 and ultimately gun 20 is urged against each of first retaining bracket 26 and second retaining bracket 28.
When gun 20 is locked into position between barrel holder housing 30 and first bracket clip 26 and second bracket clip 28, trigger guard post 22 extends through the rear of the space between the rear of trigger 24 and serves as as secondary locking mechanism preventing accidental discharge of gun 20. Gun holder main body 60 further comprises a mounting surface 40. In one embodiment, mounting service 40 is padded so as to protect gun 20 from cosmetic scratches and blemishes when positioned onto gun holder main body 60.

In one embodiment, this rotation provides for greater ease of connecting gun 20 into the assembly of the present invention. A user will rotate barrel holder 38 away from surface 40 of gun holder main body 60. The user will then insert barrel holder 38 into the barrel of gun 20 then, with barrel holder 38 positioned inside the barrel of gun 20 the user will rotate barrel holder 38 into a position substantially vertical with the planer surface that is surface 40 of gun holder main body 60.
Once gun 20 is rotated into position substantially parallel with surface 40 of gun holder main body 60, the end of gun 20 opposite the barrel will interact with each of first bracket 26 and second bracket 28 in order to lock gun 20 into a fixed position.
