Claims
- 1. A gyro compass comprising:
- a tiltmeter for detecting a tilt of a horizontal spin axis of a rotor with respect to Earth's surface;
- horizontal axis torque applying means for exerting a torque about a horizontal axis of the rotor;
- vertical axis torque applying means for exerting a torque about a vertical axis of the rotor;
- automatic rotor raising control means for raising the rotor to a horizontal plane in response to said vertical axis torque
- 2. A gyro compass comprising:
- a tiltmeter for detecting a tilt of a horizontal spin axis of a rotor with respect to Earth's surface;
- horizontal axis torque applying means for exerting a torque about a horizontal axis of the rotor;
- vertical axis torque applying means for exerting a torque about a vertical axis of the rotor;
- automatic rotor raising control means for raising the rotor to a horizontal plane in response to said vertical axis torque applying means during a first stage after the rotor is started to rotate;
- short-time settlement controlling means for settling the rotor in a short time by obtaining an angular tilt velocity based on output signals of said tiltmeter produced at a second stage and for controlling said horizontal axis torque applying means and said vertical axis torque applying means in correspondence to the angular tilt velocity;
- equilibrium tilt angle storing means for storing an inclination angle of the rotor at a time when said gyro compass is in an equilibrium state; and
- tilt adjustment controlling means for utilizing the stored inclination angle, upon reinitiation of said gyro compass, to bring said gyro compass to said equilibrium state.
- 3. The gyro compass as claimed in claim 2 wherein said equilibrium tilt angle storing means comprises a memory device for storing digital signals representative of the stored inclination angle.
- 4. The gyro compass as claimed in claim 3 wherein said equilibrium tilt angle storing means further comprises writing means for writing the digital signals into said memory device before the gyro compass is halted.
- 5. The gyro compass as claimed in claim 2 wherein said equilibrium tilt angle storing means comprises a memory device for storing digital signals representative of the stored inclination angle and writing means for writing the digital signals into said memory device before the gyro compass is halted.
- 6. The gyro compass as claimed in claim 2 wherein a microprocessor is used to control said horizontal axis torque applying means.
- 7. The gyro compass as claimed in claim 2 wherein a microprocessor is used to control said vertical axis torque applying means.
- 8. A device for adjusting a tilt angle of a rotor of a gyro compass comprising:
- equilibrium tilt angle storing means for storing an inclination angle of the rotor at a time when said gyro compass is in an equilibrium state and
- tilt adjustment control means, operatively connected to said equilibrium tilt angle storing means, for utilizing the stored inclination angle, upon reinitiation of said gyro compass, to bring said gyro compass to said equilibrium state.
- 9. The device of claim 8 wherein said equilibrium tilt angle storing means comprises a memory device for storing digital signals representative of the stored inclination angle.
- 10. The device of claim 9 wherein said equilibrium tilt angle storing means further comprises writing means for writing the digital signals into said memory device before the gyro compass is halted.
- 11. The device of claim 8 wherein said equilibrium tilt angle storing means comprises a memory device for storing digital signals representative of the stored inclination angle and writing means for writing the digital signals into said memory device before the gyro compass is halted.
- 12. A method for adjusting a tilt angle of a rotor of a gyro compass comprising the steps of:
- (a) storing an inclination angle of the rotor at a time when said gyro compass is in an equilibrium state; and
- (b) utilizing the stored inclination angle, upon reinitiation of said gyro compass, to bring said gyro compass to said equilibrium state.
- 13. The method as claimed in claim 12 wherein said step (a) stores digital signals representative of the stored inclination angle.
- 14. The method as claimed in claim 12 wherein said step (a) comprises the steps of:
- (a1) receiving digital signals representative of the stored inclination angle; and
- (a2) writing the digital signals into a memory before operations of the gyro compass is terminated.
