Description
BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE

This disclosure relates to a hair brush and more particularly to a hair coloring brush for applying highlights to hair.

Hair coloring is a complex technique in which a color dye is applied to hair to change, cover, or enhance the natural color of hair. A color dye is made by mixing various colors and chemicals in a receptacle to obtain a desired color to be applied to hair. Once the desired color is obtained the color is slowly and laboriously applied to sections of hair by a brush. As can be appreciated, this is a time consuming process which may take up to forty-five minutes or more before the color is properly applied in a desired amount. Compounding this problem is the fact that the brushes being used to apply the color are small and only cover a portion of a section of hair to be dyed. Multiple strokes or passes are required to dye a section of hair. This adds to the time and energy required to dye hair. Also, if a colorist is being used then the amount charged by the colorist is increased due to the increased time required to apply dye to hair. It is also know that the receptacle or bowl in which dye and other chemicals are mixed is not large and only a small batch of dye may be mixed at a time. In view of this, if the amount of dye is underestimated then another batch may have to be mixed. Again, this adds to the time and expense of dyeing hair.

Another hair coloring technique is highlighting which entails coloring or tinting selected strands of hair. Highlighting requires an experienced hair stylist to apply hair dye to specific strands of hair. Again, this is a time consuming process due to the hair stylist having to select specific strands of hair to apply dye. Also, the brush being used to apply dye is small which requires multiple strokes or passes to highlight the selected strands of hair.

The present hair coloring brush is designed to obviate and overcome many of the disadvantages and shortcomings associated with prior hair coloring brushes. Further, the present hair coloring brush provides increased surface area for applying dye to a larger area or section of hair when highlighting hair. Moreover, the present hair coloring brush system provides a hair brush having a brush surface area for applying a color dye and a receptacle for holding a color dye.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

Referring now to the drawings, wherein like numbers refer to like items, number 10 identifies an embodiment of a hair coloring brush constructed according to the present disclosure. With reference now to FIG. 1, the hair coloring brush 10 is shown comprising a pick handle 12, a central base portion 14, a first set of bristles 16 extending out from the central base portion 14 having a first length 18, and a second set of bristles 20 extending out from the central base portion 14 having a second length 22 with the first set of bristles 16 alternating with the second set of bristles 20. In this particular construction there are ten sets of the first set of bristles 16 and nine sets of the second set of bristles 20 that extend from the central base portion 14. A left side set 24 of the first set of bristles 16 and a right side set 26 of the first set of bristles 16 are provided in the hair coloring brush 10. In this particular embodiment the first set of bristles 16 is positioned at a left side 28 of the central base portion 14 and another first set of bristles 16 is positioned at a right side 30 of the central base portion 14. The central base portion 14 has a front side 32 that is large and is adapted for a hand of an operator of the brush 10 to be able to firmly grasp the brush 10. The central base portion 14 has an indentation 34 formed in the front side 32. The indentation 34 has a curved or semicircular bottom end 36 and a straight upper end 38. The indentation 34 provides an area 40 for grasping the brush 10 in a comfortable manner by an operator or user of the brush 10. The curved bottom end 36 provides a surface 42 against which fingers of an operator may be positioned for more control of the brush 10. The central base portion 14 also has a left side curved portion 44, a straight end 46, a right side curved portion 48, and an extension portion 50. The extension portion 50 has a number of ribs 52 that are used to grip the brush 10. The brush 10 and the central base portion 14 are wide and large which allows more dye to be applied to hair in one stroke of the brush 10. Further, although the side portions 44 and 48 are disclosed, it is to be understood that the central base portion 14 may be produced having any side portions such as a square shape, a rectangular shape, or a semicircular shape.

FIG. 2 illustrates a back perspective view of the hair coloring brush 10. The hair coloring brush 10 is shown comprising the pick handle 12, the central base portion 14, the first set of bristles 16 extending out from the central base portion 14 having the first length 18, and the second set of bristles 20 extending out from the central base portion 14 having the second length 22 with the first set of bristles 16 alternating with the second set of bristles 20. The right side set 26 of the first set of bristles 16 is now shown on the left side of this particular view and the left side set 24 of the first set of bristles 16 is now on the right side. The central base portion 14 has a rear side 54 that is large and is adapted for a hand of an operator of the brush 10 to be able to firmly grasp the brush 10. As can be appreciated, the rear side 54 of the central base portion 14 does not have an indention like the indention 34 (FIG. 1) of the front side 32. This allows a user of the brush 10 to know how the brush 10 is being used in applying dye to hair. The central base portion 14 also has the left side curved portion 44 (now shown on the right side), the straight end 46, a right side curved portion 48 (now shown on the left side), and the extension portion 50. The extension portion 50 has the ribs 52 that are used to assist in gripping the brush 10.

The first length 158 is greater than the third length 166 and the third length 166 is greater than the second length 162. As can be appreciated, the alternating pattern shown in FIG. 5 may be modified such that the second set of bristles 160 begins the pattern or that the third set of bristles 164 begins the pattern. The sets of bristles 156, 160, and 164 provide for various highlighting effects. In this particular construction there are ten sets of the first set of bristles 156, five sets of the second set of bristles 160, and four sets of the third set of bristles 164. A left side set 168 of the first set of bristles 156 and a right side set 170 of the first set of bristles 156 are provided in the hair coloring brush 150. In this particular embodiment the first set of bristles 156 is positioned at a left side 172 of the central base portion 154 and another first set of bristles 156 is positioned at a right side 174 of the central base portion 154.
