The present specification relates generally to devices for attaching hair to a helmet and more specifically a removable system for attaching hair extension onto a helmet or hat.
Hair extensions are well known in the art. Individuals use hair extensions for a variety of reasons. For example, hair extensions are used for hair loss, to elongate hair, to add volume to hair and for decoration. These extensions are usually made from human hair, synthetic extensions of nylon, acrylic or polyester and are attached to a person's head by weaving, hair bands, rings, sewing, tying, or knotting the extension into the person's hair. Individuals have now gone beyond just putting extensions in their hair and have now started to put hair extensions such as ponytail braids on other items such as bicycle helmets, motorcycle helmets, and other head coverings. Traditional helmets are essential safety equipment for individuals engaging in activities that pose risks of head injury. Hair extensions, however, are not specifically designed for attachment to motorcycle helmets, so user have developed hair extension braids that mount to a user's helmet.
Traditional helmet mounted braids on the market have either a suction or are made from a knock-off camera mounts which can snap when the hair clip on the helmet mount is removed. In these cases, the user has to either buy and replace the broken clip which means disassembling the entire product or buy a new one in hopes that the new clip does not break again. Other attachment mechanisms include tying the braid ponytail extensions to a suction cup which can easily be removed or fall off if the suction fails.
Therefore, there is a need for a braid ponytail extension that is easily attached to a head covering and allows the user to easily replace the braided ponytail extension without removing the adhesive or relying on a suction cup to keep the braid ponytail extension attached and easily remove and put another style braid on their helmet.
Accordingly, the present is a hair extension mount that can be attached to a head covering comprising a first piece having an open end and a closed end wherein the closed end can have a hair extension attachment. A second piece can have a first end and a second end wherein the open end can be configured to accept a portion of the second end. At least one spring can be coupled to the first piece wherein the spring pushes against the second piece. The first piece can comprise an inner diameter on its open end wherein the inner diameter comprises can have at least one first groove, at least one second groove and can have at least one locking groove.
The first end can have at least one tab extending from the first end and a base on the second end wherein the channel can be formed between the first end and the second end. The at least one spring can be coupled to the open end. The first groove can allow the at least one tab to enter into the first piece and lock within the locking groove. The at least one spring can push against the second piece into the first piece. The first piece and the second piece can be manufactured from plastic, metal, or carbon. The second end and/base can have adhesive, hook and loop, or fasteners coupled to it which can be used to attach the second piece to the head covering. The head covering can be a motorcycle helmet, bicycle helmet, or ski helmet. The base can extend from a channel forming a diameter and having a thickness.
The hair extension attachment can be coupled to a loop which is coupled to hair extension wherein the loop can be a d-loop, ring, or split steel ring wherein the at least one hair extension is attached to a D-ring having a straight section and wherein the straight section of the D-ring passes through the loop. The hair extension braids can be attached to a ring wherein the ring can be coupled to the loop.

The first piece is designed to be a receptacle for a second piece, which is secured to the head covering. The second piece has a substantially cylindrical core with a first end and a second end. The first end of the second piece features at least one radial extension, while the second end has a base that attaches to the head covering. The open end of the first piece is configured to accept and encompass the radial extension on the first end of the second piece.
The method further involves securing a spring between the first piece and the second piece. The spring is positioned such that when the first end of the second piece is accepted into the open end of the first piece, the spring biases the first piece away from the second piece. This spring mechanism can provide a secure yet detachable connection between the hair extension and the head covering.
In a preferred embodiment, the first piece can comprise an inner diameter on its open end. The inner diameter can comprise at least one groove and at least one locking groove. The method can involve aligning the at least one radial extension with the at least one groove to allow the second piece to enter the open end of the first piece. The first piece is then rotated relative to the second piece to align the at least one radial extension with the at least one locking groove. The at least one radial extension is then inserted into the at least one locking groove to secure the first piece to the second piece.
In another embodiment, the at least one radial extension is a first tab and a second tab. Similarly, the at least one groove is a first groove and a second groove, and the at least one locking groove can be a first locking groove and a second locking groove. The method involves aligning the first tab with the first groove and the second tab with the second groove to allow the second piece to enter the open end of the first piece. The first piece is then rotated relative to the second piece to align the first tab with the first locking groove and the second tab with the second locking groove. The first tab is then inserted into the first locking groove and the second tab into the second locking groove.
In yet another embodiment, the at least one spring can be secured to the open end of the first piece. This configuration can provide additional stability and security to the connection between the hair extension and the head covering. The first piece and the second piece can be manufactured from various materials, including but not limited to plastic, metal, or carbon. The choice of material can be determined based on factors such as durability, weight, cost, and aesthetic appeal. The base or second end of the second piece can be attached to the head covering via various means, including but not limited to an adhesive, hook and loop material, or a fastener. The choice of attachment method can be determined based on factors such as the type of head covering, the weight of the hair extension, and the desired ease of detachment. The head covering can be any type of headgear, including but not limited to a motorcycle helmet, a bicycle helmet, or a ski helmet. The method is versatile and can be adapted to various types of head coverings.
In another embodiment, the closed end of the first piece has a loop. The method further involves coupling the hair extension to the loop. The loop can be a D-loop, ring, or split steel ring. The hair extension can be attached to a D-ring having a straight section, and the straight section of the D-ring can be threaded through the loop. This configuration provides a secure yet detachable connection between the hair extension and the first piece.
In conclusion, the present invention provides a method of detachably coupling a hair extension to a head covering. The method involves providing a first piece with a hair extension attachment, securing a second piece to the head covering, and securing a spring between the first piece and the second piece. The method is versatile and can be adapted to various types of head coverings and hair extensions. The method also provides a secure yet detachable connection between the hair extension and the head covering, allowing for easy attachment and removal of the hair extension.
