Claims
- 1. A fruit and vegetable peeler comprising a base member for supporting said peeler on a surface such as a counter top; a hand crank mounted on said base member for rotation about an axis; a slender arbor attached to said hand crank for suspending and rotating a fruit or vegetable about an axis; a slidable member mounted on said base member for linear movement in a direction which is perpendicular to said axis of said arbor; a slender upright manually movable member for manually engaging a peeling blade with a fruit or a vegetable, said manually movable member having a lower end portion pivotally mounted to said slidable member for rotation about an axis which it in perpendicular relationship to said axis of said arbor and an opposite upper end portion for mounting a peeling blade; and a peeling blade mounted in said opposite end portion of said slender upright member having a sharp cutting edge, said cutting edge being in parallel relationship to said axis of said lower end portion of said manually movable member.
- 2. The apparatus set forth in claim 1 wherein said cutting edge of said peeling blade is an edge of a first elongated blade portion and said peeling blade further comprises a second elongated spaced apart blade portion, said first elongated blade portion being offset by a small amount below said first elongated blade portion.
- 3. The apparatus set forth in claim 1 wherein said peeling blade is pivotally mounted in said slender upright member.
- 4. The apparatus set forth in claim 2 wherein said first and said second elongated blade portions are arcuate portions.
- 5. The apparatus set forth in claim 1 wherein said arbor is detachable from said crank.
- 6. A fruit and vegetable peeler comprising: a base for supporting said peeler on a table; a hand crank pivotally mounted on said base for rotating a slender arbor attached to said crank about an axis; a slidable member mounted on said base for linear movement in a direction which is perpendicular to said axis of said arbor; a slender upright manually movable member for manually engaging a peeling blade with a fruit or vegetable, said upright member having a lower end portion pivotally mounted to said slidable member for rotation about an axis which is in perpendicular relationship to said axis of said arbor and an opposite upper end portion for mounting a peeling blade; and a peeling blade pivotally mounted in said opposite tipper end portion of said slender member having a sharp cutting edge, said cutting edge being in parallel relationship to said axis of said lower end portion of said slender upright member.
- 7. A fruit and vegetable peeler comprising: a base; a hand crank pivotally mounted on said base for rotating a fruit or vegetable about an axis of said hand crank; a slender upright manually movable member for positioning a sharp cutting edge of a peeling blade with respect to said fruit or vegetable; a peeling blade having a sharp end portion pivotally mounted in an upper end portion of said slender upright member; and a means for mounting said slender upright member on said base for manually sliding said peeling blade in a direction which is perpendicular to said axis of said hand crank and rotating said sharp cutting edge of said peeling blade against said fruit or vegetable.
- 8. The apparatus set forth in claim 1 wherein said arbor comprises a short hex shaped end portion and a plurality of fins attached to said hex shaped end portion, said fins being in radial arrangement with respect to a rotational axis of said arbor.
- 9. The apparatus set forth in claim 8 wherein said arbor has at least three thin radial fins, said fins being in longitudinal relationship to an axis of said arbor.
- 10. The apparatus recited in claim 8 wherein said arbor further comprises a collar for attaching and removing said fruit or vegetable from said arbor, said collar being adjacent to said fins of said arbor.
- 11. The apparatus set forth in claim 8 wherein said arbor has an odd number of fins, said fins being in longitudinal relationship to an axis of said arbor.
