Abstract
A handgun hanger apparatus features a mounting plate and one or more barrel rods configured to swivel in relation to the mounting plate. The mounting plate may be sized to accommodate a different amount of handguns and spaces. The handgun hanger apparatus may be hung from a rear of a shelf, may be clipped into a shelf track system of a safe, or may be directly secured to a wall or other surface. The handgun hanger apparatus is capable of hanging handguns of different calibers and is configured to swivel each handgun so as to reduce the amount of space required or to otherwise display each handgun, as desired by a user.
Description
TECHNICAL FIELD

The present disclosure relates to handgun hangers and holders. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to a handgun holder configured to hold one or more handguns and be mountable to a wall, shelf, or other surface.


BACKGROUND

Since their inception in the 16th century, pistols have continued to be popular, with many users today owning more than one. As with any firearm, there is a need to store the weapon when not in use, and in some cases, users desire to display their handguns when not in use. As a result, there are many ways that users store handguns today, including simply placing the handgun on a shelf or counter, in a drawer, in a gun cabinet, in a safe, in a safe room, or in additional locations. Storing a firearm on a shelf or counter is unwise for several reasons, so most individuals store firearms in a safe or safe room. However, space within cabinets and safes is limited, and many do not have adequate shelves to hold or store handguns. This results in handguns often being stored on top of one another or, unfortunately, being left out of the safe.


In an attempt to solve these problems, various handgun holders and hangers have entered the market. However, the majority of handgun hangers in the art are only configured to hold a single handgun, many of which are in a single direction and at the front of a shelf-making access to behind the handguns difficult and using up space below the shelf. Even for those hangers that swivel, the placement, attachment, and ability to only hold one handgun makes their use limited. Others have mounted a plurality of hangers (e.g., pegs for inserting into the barrel) to a rack or shelf, but the inability to swivel, along with the size required, makes these hangers less desirable as well. Additional handgun holders exist that are configured to rest on, or mount to, a surface, but these holders use up valuable shelf space and, again, are incapable of pivoting. Holders are often more difficult to retrieve the handgun from as well.


As a result, there is a need for a handgun hanger that is capable of hanging one or more handguns, that is easily securable to a wall, shelf, or other surface, and that allows the handguns to pivot in relation to the hanger and surface. The present disclosure solves these needs and others.


SUMMARY OF EXAMPLE EMBODIMENTS

In some embodiments, a handgun hanger apparatus comprises a mounting plate and one or more barrel rods configured to swivel in relation to the mounting plate. In some embodiments, the handgun hanger apparatus may comprise one or more shelf hanging brackets, shelf track brackets, and limit blocks.


In some embodiments, a handgun hanger apparatus comprises a mounting plate and one or more barrel rods configured to swivel in relation to the mounting plate. In some embodiments, the barrel rods are configured to swivel using a detent mechanism. In some embodiments, the mounting plate comprises a top lip for mating with a track clip bracket or for hanging on screws or other mechanisms in a wall or surface. In some embodiments, the track clip bracket comprises a single sheet metal hem to mate with the top lip of the mounting plate.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EXAMPLE EMBODIMENTS

As previously discussed, there is a need for a handgun hanger that is capable of hanging one or more handguns, that is easily securable to a wall, shelf, or other surface, and that allows the handguns to pivot in relation to the hanger and surface. The handgun hanger apparatus disclosed herein solves these needs and others.


Referring to FIGS. 1-7, in some embodiments, a handgun hanger apparatus 100 comprises at least one mounting plate 102A-C and one or more barrel rods 104 configured to swivel in relation to the mounting plate 102A-C. While the Figs. show a plurality of mounting plates 102A-C, it will be appreciated that only one mounting plate 102A-C is required. As shown, each mounting plate 102A-C may comprise a different number of barrel rods 104, allowing for customization depending on the desired space and number of handguns a user owns. For example, the larger mounting plate 102A may be suitable for installation on a wall, in a saferoom, or in a very large safe. For those with less space or with fewer handguns to store, the mounting plate 102C may be used, which is smaller and capable of installation in smaller safes and other locations. In other words, the user may select the size and number of mounting plates 102A-C, based on their needs.


In some embodiments, the handgun hanger apparatus 100 may comprise one or more shelf hanging brackets 106. In one example, the shelf hanging brackets 106 may install behind a shelf 108 on a wall or in a safe, the shelf hanging bracket 106 being interposed between the shelf 108 and the wall to which the shelf is secured. In this manner, rather than handguns being positioned beneath the front of a shelf 108, the handguns are able to be positioned toward the rear of the shelf 108, adjacent to a wall. In some embodiments, the shelf hanging brackets 106 may simply rest on the shelf 108 and not require any other securement mechanism, the shelf hanging brackets 106 being secured between the wall and shelf 108. The shelf hanging bracket 106 may be easily secured the desired mounting plate 102A-C using one or more clips 110, effectively clamping the shelf hanging bracket 106 on the desired mounting plate 102A-C. The clips 110 may be adjustable, such as by using a bolt, to thereby allow the shelf hanging brackets 106 to be removably attached. In some embodiments, the shelf hanging brackets 106 may be secured to the shelf using screws, bolts, or other securement means.


In some embodiments, the handgun hanger apparatus 100 comprises a safe track clip bracket 112 which, like the shelf hanger bracket 106, may clamp to the desired mounting plate 102A-C using one or more clips 110. The safe track clip bracket 112 is configured to mount on shelf tracking 114, which may be installed by a user or is also commonly found in gun safes. In this example, a user simply clips the safe track clip bracket 112 into the shelf tracking 114 of their safe or on their wall, then secures the desired mounting plate 102A-C thereon by placing the bottom edge 103 on lower protrusion 105 of the safe track clip bracket 112, then places or slides the clip 110 over the top edge 107 and then secures it in place via a bolt or other fastening means to effectively clamp the mounting plate 102A-C to the safe track clip bracket 112. It will be appreciated that the shelf hanging bracket 106 may be secured in the same manner.


It will also be appreciated that the shelf hanger bracket 106 and the safe track clip bracket 112 may be slidably adjustable along the length of the respective mounting plate 102A-C, allowing for customization to the size of shelf 108 or safe that a user desires. In some embodiments, the mounting plate 102A-C may be secured directly to a wall or other surface using screws, nails, bolts, or other securing means, omitting brackets 106 and 112.


Each barrel rod 104 is configured to swivel at least 90 degrees (e.g., 45 degrees in each direction). This allows a user to swing the handguns to the side, thereby taking up less space, allows unused barrel rods to remain out of the way, and allows the handguns to be displayed better, among other benefits. Each barrel rod 104 is configured to receive a plurality of pistol calibers by simply slipping a distal end of the barrel rod 104 into the barrel of handgun. Once the handgun is hanging by the barrel on the barrel rod 104, a user may swivel the handgun to either side, as desired. Each barrel rod 104 is sized so as to receive a variety of handgun calibers, including from .22 caliber to .50 caliber without the need of adapters or additional components. Each barrel rod 104 may be plated with zinc or other corrosion resistant materials and may further comprise a protective cover (e.g., polyolefin) to provide a soft surface for the barrel and to prevent unwanted sliding of the barrel on the barrel rod 104.


As best seen in FIGS. 6-7, each barrel rod 104 extends to form a post 116 that passes through the mounting plate 102A-C and is configured to swivel thereon. Each post 116 of each barrel rod 104 comprises a compression spring 118 and a swivel mechanism, such as a pivot block 120, or other swivel mechanism. The pivot block 120 is configured and positioned on each post 116, such as by using a set screw 122, to abut the interior side of the mounting plate 102A-C when the predetermined degree of swivel (e.g., 45 degrees) in either direction is reached. While specific degrees for the swivel are mentioned herein, it will be appreciated that the present disclosure is not limited to these examples and swiveling to other degrees does not depart herefrom.


Referring to FIGS. 8-13, in some embodiments, a handgun hanger apparatus 200 comprises a mounting plate 202A-D and one or more barrel rods 204 configured to swivel in relation to the mounting plate 202. As in previous embodiments, the handgun hanger apparatus 200 may comprise one or more shelf hanging brackets 206 and/or track clip brackets 212. In some embodiments, the barrel rods 204 are configured to swivel using a swivel mechanism, such as detent mechanism 220.


For example, as best seen in FIGS. 12-13, each post 216 of each barrel rod 204 may comprise a compression spring 218, a retaining ring 222, a static detent member 224, and a dynamic detent member 226. The static detent member 224 may have a plurality of protrusions 228 (FIG. 12) for engaging with a plurality of apertures 230 (FIG. 13) in the dynamic detent member 226. The protrusions 228 and apertures 230 may be configured to provide for 30-degree increments in pivoting, and is capable of 180-degree movement. However, it will be appreciated that other angles of pivot, angle of total movement, and the positioning of the protrusions 228 and apertures 230 may vary without departing herefrom. Additionally, while protrusions 228 and apertures 230 are used as an example, any configuration that allows for positioning of the barrel rods 204 in relation to the mounting plate 202A-D is contemplated herein.


As best shown in FIG. 13, the static detent member 224 comprises one or more securing protrusions 227 that mate with receiving apertures 229 in the mounting plate 202D. As appreciated, the compression spring 118 with retaining ring 222 allow the dynamic detent to be slightly raised by a user, compressing the spring, to allow swiveling of the dynamic detent member 336 in relation to the static member 224. When released, the spring 218 extends, forcing the post 216 and dynamic detent member 226 downward once again, where the apertures 230 mate with the protrusions 228 to remain secured in the desired position.


Referring back to FIG. 8, in some embodiments, each mounting plate 202A-C comprises a top lip 232A-C for mating with a track clip bracket 212 or for hanging on screws or other mechanisms in a wall or surface. In some embodiments, the track clip bracket 212 comprises a single sheet metal hem 234, or other protrusion, to mate with the top lip 232A-C of the mounting plate 202A-C. The top lip 232A-C may comprise a recess 236 or other aperture to ensure proper alignment and spacing when mounted on the track clip bracket 212 and/or shelf bracket 206. In other words, the recess 236 is configured to receive the sheet metal hem 234, thereby preventing the mounting plate 202A-C from sliding horizontally when mounted. Mounting plate 202D may be configured similarly, or, as best shown in FIG. 11, may simply comprise fastening apertures 238A-B.


As shown, each mounting plate 202A-D may be formed by bending a single sheet of metal. However, other materials may also be used, including plastics, carbon fiber, fiberglass, wood, etc. As shown, each mounting plate 202A-D may be shaped to facilitate the detent mechanism 220 and post 216 interaction. In other words, referring to FIGS. 10 and 11 for ease of view, the mounting plate 202D may comprise a top mounting side 240A, a lower mounting side 240B, a first portion 242 configured to receive the static detent member 224, and a front portion 244 forming an aperture 246 configured to receive the post 216, spring 218, and retaining ring 222.


Accordingly, the handgun hanger apparatus 100, 200 disclosed herein solves the need for a handgun hanger that is capable of hanging one or more handguns, that is easily securable to a wall, shelf, or other surface, and that allows the handguns to pivot in relation to the hanger and surface, among other advantages. The handgun hanger apparatus 100, 200 allows for multiple calibers to be hung, is adjustable to fit different sized shelves or safes, does not use shelf space, and allows each handgun to be pivoted for display, increased storage space, or to more easily retrieve an adjacent handgun or other item.


It will be appreciated that systems and methods according to certain embodiments of the present disclosure may include, incorporate, or otherwise comprise properties or features (e.g., components, members, elements, parts, and/or portions) described in other embodiments. Accordingly, the various features of certain embodiments can be compatible with, combined with, included in, and/or incorporated into other embodiments of the present disclosure. Thus, disclosure of certain features relative to a specific embodiment of the present disclosure should not be construed as limiting application or inclusion of said features to the specific embodiment unless so stated. Rather, it will be appreciated that other embodiments can also include said features, members, elements, parts, and/or portions without necessarily departing from the scope of the present disclosure.


Moreover, unless a feature is described as requiring another feature in combination therewith, any feature herein may be combined with any other feature of a same or different embodiment disclosed herein. Furthermore, various well-known aspects of illustrative systems, methods, apparatus, and the like are not described herein in particular detail in order to avoid obscuring aspects of the example embodiments. Such aspects are, however, also contemplated herein.

Claims
  • 1. A handgun hanger apparatus, comprising: a mounting plate;at least one barrel rod, the barrel rod extending to form a vertical post, the vertical post configured to pass through a portion of the mounting plate;a spring coupled to the vertical post; anda swivel mechanism configured to allow a user to selectively swivel the at least one barrel rod.
  • 2. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 1, wherein the swivel mechanism comprises a pivot block.
  • 3. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 1, wherein the swivel mechanism comprises a detent mechanism.
  • 4. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 3, wherein the detent mechanism comprises a fixed detent member and a dynamic detent member.
  • 5. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 4, wherein the detent mechanism is positioned on a first portion of the mounting plate and the spring is positioned on an opposite side of the first portion within an aperture formed by the mounting plate.
  • 6. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 5, wherein the fixed detent member comprises one or more securing protrusions for passing through receiving apertures in the first portion of the mounting plate.
  • 7. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 3, wherein the fixed detent member comprises a plurality of protrusions configured to selectively mate with one or more apertures on the dynamic detent member.
  • 8. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a safe track clip bracket configured to couple to the mounting plate.
  • 9. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 8, wherein the mounting plate couples to the safe track clip bracket via a metal hem on the safe track clip bracket.
  • 10. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a shelf hanging bracket.
  • 11. A handgun hanger apparatus, comprising: a mounting plate;at least one barrel rod, the barrel rod extending to form a vertical post, the vertical post configured to pass through a portion of the mounting plate; anda detent mechanism coupled to the vertical post, the detent mechanism configured to allow a user to selectively swivel the one or more barrel rod.
  • 12. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 11, wherein the detent mechanism comprises a fixed detent member and a dynamic detent member.
  • 13. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 12, wherein the detent mechanism is positioned on a first portion of the mounting plate and a spring is positioned on an opposite side of the first portion within an aperture formed by the mounting plate.
  • 14. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 13, wherein the fixed detent member comprises one or more securing protrusions for passing through one or more receiving apertures, respectively, in the first portion of the mounting plate.
  • 15. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 12, wherein the fixed detent member comprises a plurality of protrusions configured to selectively mate with one or more apertures on the dynamic detent member.
  • 16. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 11, further comprising a safe track clip bracket configured to couple to the mounting plate.
  • 17. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 16, wherein the mounting plate couples to the safe track clip bracket via a metal hem on the safe track clip bracket.
  • 18. The handgun hanger apparatus of claim 11, further comprising a shelf hanging bracket.
  • 19. A method of using a handgun hanger apparatus, comprising: mounting the handgun hanger to a wall directly or via a safe track clip bracket;sliding a barrel of a handgun over a barrel rod so that the handgun is supported by the barrel on the barrel rod; andswiveling the handgun to the desired position.
  • 20. The method of claim 19, wherein the method comprises sliding a plurality of handguns over a plurality of barrel rods, respectively, so that each handgun is supported via a respective barrel rod, and swiveling the plurality of handguns to the desired position.
