Claims
- 1. A hands-free telephone comprising:
- speaker means;
- microphone means;
- receive variable attenuator means connected to the input of said speaker means for changing the input level of said speaker means in accordance with a first control signal;
- transmit variable attenuator means connected to the output of said microphone for changing the output level of said microphone in accordance with a second control signal;
- receive signal detector means connected to the input of said receive variable attenuator means for detecting the input level of said receive variable attenuator to produce a receive detect signal;
- transmit signal detector means connected to the output of said microphone for detecting the output level of said microphone to produce a transmit detect signal;
- attenuation control means responsive to said receive and transmit detect signals for providing said first and second control signals to said receive and transmit variable attenuator means, respectively; and
- auxiliary control means connected between said transmit signal detector means and said attenuation control means and responsive to an enable/disable signal indicating the status of a line connected to said hands-free telephone for passing said transmit detect signal to said attenuation control means only when said transmit detect signal exceeds a predetermined reference level and said enable/disable signal indicates that said line is established.
- 2. A hands-free telephone as claimed in claim 1, wherein said auxiliary control means comprises reference level generator means responsive to said receive detect signal for generating a signal having said predetermined reference level.
- 3. A hands-free telephone as claimed in claim 1, wherein said auxiliary control means comprises comparator means for comparing the level of said transmit detect signal with said predetermined reference level and for providing a comparison signal when the level of said transmit detect signal exceeds said predetermined reference signal; flip-flop means having Q and Q terminals and having data, clock and reset terminals which receives a positive voltage, said comparison signal and said enable/disable signal, respectively; and analog switch means for selectively passing said transmit detect signal to said attenuation control means based on a signal at one of said Q and Q terminals.
- 4. A hands-free telephone comprising:
- speaker means for receiving a receive signal;
- microphone for transmitting a transmit signal;
- receive attenuator means for chaning the level of said receive signal in accordance with a first control signal;
- transmit attenuator means for changing the level of said transmit signal in accordance with a second control signal;
- receive detector means for detecting the level of said receive signal to produce a receive detect signal;
- transmit detector means for detecting the level of said transmit signal to produce a transmit detect signal;
- first control means for passing said transmit detect signal when the level of said transmit detect signal exceeds a reference level and for holding the passing status until said first control means receives a reset signal; and
- second control means responsive to said receive detect signal and to the output of said first control means for providing said first and second control signals to said receive and transmit attenuator means, respectively.
- 5. A hands-free telephone as claimed in claim 4, wherein said first control means comprises means responsive to said receive detect signal for generating a signal having said reference level.
- 6. A hands-free telephone as claimed in claim 4, wherein said first control means comprises analog switch means for passing said transmit detect signal to said second control means in response to a third control signal; comparator means for producing a comparison signal when the level of said transmit detect signal exceeds said reference level; and holding means responsive to said comparison signal for providing said third control signal to said analog switch means and holding the provision of said third control signal to said analog switch until said holding means is reset.
- 7. A hands-free telephone as claimed in claim 6, wherein said holding means comprises a flip-flop having data and clock terminals which receive a positive voltage and said comparison signal, respectively, and an output terminal at which said third control signal is provided.
- 8. In voice-switching type hands-free telephone comprising hands-free control means which includes receive attenuator means, receive signal detector means; transmit attenuator means; and transmit signal detector means, the improvement comprising:
- auxiliary control means including: comparison voltage generator means responsive to the output of said receive signal detector means for generating a comparison reference voltage; comparator means for comparing the outputs of said comparison voltage generator means and said transmit signal detector means; flip-flop means having a clock terminal and receiving the output of said comparator means at said clock terminal; and analog switch means responsive to an output of said flip-flop means, and
- wherein when the output of said transmit signal detector means exceeds said comparison reference voltage, said output of said flip-flop means signals said analog switch means to its closed state to supply the output of said transmit signal detector means to said hands-free control means.
- 9. A method of controlling a voice-switched type hands-free telephone which comprises a speaker and a microphone, said method comprising the following steps of:
- (a) changing the level of a receive signal in accordance with a first control signal, said receive signal being applied to said speaker;
- (b) changing the level of a transmit signal in accordance with a second control signal, said transmit signal being provided from said microphone;
- (c) detecting the level of said receive signal to provide a receive detect signal;
- (d) detecting the level of said transmit signal to provide a transmit detect signal;
- (e) responsive to said receive and transmit detect signals, producing said first and second control signals so that said telephone performs voice-switched telephoning;
- (f) providing said receive signal to said speaker when an enable signal indicates that a line is established between said telephone and a party to which a call is placed from said telephone;
- (g) inhibiting said transmit detect signal from reaching said step (e) during a transient period between origination of said call and a time when the level of said transmit detect signal exceeds a comparison reference voltage signifying a voice signal applied to the microphone; and
- (h) providing said transmit detect signal to said step (e) after said transient period and continuing the provision of said transmit detect signal to said step (e) until the established line is released.
- 10. A method as claimed in claim 9, further comprising the step of, generating a comparison reference voltage responsive to the receive detect signal.
- 11. A method as claimed in claim 9, wherein said step of passing said transmit detect signal comprises the following steps of:
- responsive to a third control signal, passing said transmit detect signal;
- producing a comparison signal when the level of said transmit detect signal exceeds said comparison reference voltage;
- responsive to said comparison signal, producing said third control signal; and
- holding the production of said third control signal until said established line is released.
