Abstract
A hanging clothes divider includes a hanging portion and a separator portion. The separator portion may be sized to separate a top portion (or entirety) of clothing hanging on traditional hangers adjacent to the clothes divider. The divider allows for easy hanging and removal from a closet, and may assist in wrinkle prevention.
Description
BACKGROUND

Wrinkling and tangling are common issues when hanging and removing clothes into and from a closet. This can be particularly frustrating with clothes that have been already-pressed and cleaned. The problem arises when hanging clothes become pressed together in a tight closet, or clothes that are just pressed together along a portion of a clothes rod.

First, once pressed together, the clothes remain bent and wrinkles set in over time. This defeats the purpose of the pressing in the first place and is a well-known problem for anyone who wears and stores pressed clothing. Second, upon removal from the closet, the removed item will tug at adjacent clothes, tugging them to the floor, tearing them, and/or shifting them so that they hang awkwardly and create further wrinkles.

SUMMARY OF THE EMBODIMENTS

A hanging clothes divider includes a hanging portion and a separator portion. The separator portion may be sized to separate a top portion (or entirety) of clothing hanging on traditional hangers adjacent to the clothes divider. The divider allows for easy hanging and removal from a closet, and may assist in wrinkle prevention.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is an illustration of the clothes divider described herein.

FIG. 2 is an illustration of the divider in use.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENTS

FIGS. 1 and 2 show a hanging clothes divider 100 having a hanging portion 110 and a separator portion 120. The separator portion 120 is sized to separate a top portion (or entirety) of clothing 200, 220 hanging on traditional hangers 210 adjacent to the clothes divider 100 in alternating fashion. The divider 100 may also include cutouts 150 (shown in phantom only because they are optional) that may reduce weight and cost of production of the divider due to requiring less material to manufacture.

As can be best seen in FIG. 1, the clothes divider 100 has a hook-shaped hanging portion 210 shaped to engage a hanging rod/hanger 250.

Dimension-wise, the separator portion 120 may be approximately 17 inches wide to follow traditional hanger dimensions. The separator portion 120 may have a length that varies from a shirt length that is 24 inches long or longer-length clothes dividers 150 to separate longer clothes like coats or dresses. The clothes divider 100 may have a uniform thickness, or its separator portion 120 may have a uniform thickness with a hanging portion 110 engaged thereto, with the thickness being approximately ⅛ inch.

Both portions 110, 120 of the divider 100 may be formed from a single sheet of material, or only the separator may be so formed. The material may be a solid sheet, or the material may have holes 150 therein. The separator would ideally keep its shape and keep the clothing on either side thereof from folding against one another.

The material for the divider 100 may be a uniform plastic, or be a combination of plastic, wood (especially cedar to keep moths at bay), pressed paper, recycled paper, cardboard, or metal/wire, where the wire portions could comprise the hook-shaped portion 110 and the separator portion 120 could be wood or pressed paper/cardboard, with wire providing structure to more flexible materials through engagement between the hook 110 and separator 120.

While the invention has been described with reference to the embodiments above, a person of ordinary skill in the art would understand that various changes or modifications may be made thereto without departing from the scope of the claims.
