Claims
- 1. A collapsible chair, comprising:
a frame assembly including a plurality of frame members, the upper ends of said frame members being pivotally attached to upper pivot assemblies, and the lower ends being pivotally attached to lower pivot assemblies; said frame assembly further including rear members and front support members; a pair of arm rest members; and a pair of pivot mechanisms and a pair of slide-pivot mechanisms which attach said arm rest members to said frame assembly.
- 2. The collapsible chair of claim 1, wherein:
said frame members of said frame assembly are grouped into a plurality of scissor pairs which are joined near their midpoints by pivots; and ends of said frame members of said scissor pairs are joined at pivot assemblies to form an extended scissors-frame assembly, such that the frame assembly moves towards a central area from all sides as a unit when the frame is to be collapsed, and moves away from this central area when expanding.
- 3. The collapsible chair of claim 1, wherein:
said frame assembly further includes rear support members; and said pair of pivot mechanisms and said pair of slide-pivot mechanisms attach said pair of arm rests to said front support members and said rear support members.
- 4. The collapsible chair of claim 1, wherein:
said pair of pivot mechanisms attach said pair of arm rests to said front support members.
- 5. The collapsible chair of claim 1, wherein:
said arm rest members are flat arm rest members; and said slide pivot mechanisms include flat member sliding mechanisms.
- 6. The collapsible chair of claim 5, wherein:
said pivot mechanisms are a pivot enclosure, to which said flat arm rest member is attached by a fastener; and said slide-pivot mechanisms include slide enclosures and pivotal members.
- 7. The collapsible chair of claim 1, wherein:
said slide pivot mechanisms include tubular member sliding mechanisms.
- 8. The collapsible chair of claim 7, wherein:
said pivot mechanisms are a pivotal member, to which an arm rest member is attached; and said slide-pivot mechanisms include tubular enclosures and a tubular slide members.
- 9. A collapsible chair, comprising:
a frame assembly including a plurality of frame members, the upper ends of said frame members being pivotally attached to upper connectors, and the lower ends being pivotally attached to lower pivot assemblies, said frame members of said frame assembly being grouped into a plurality of scissor pairs which are joined near their midpoints by pivots and ends of said frame members of said scissor pairs are joined at pivot assemblies to form an extended scissors-frame assembly, such that the frame assembly moves towards a central area from all sides as a unit when the frame is to be collapsed, and moves away from this central area when expanding; a pair of rigid arm rest members; and a pair of pivot mechanisms and a pair of slide-pivot mechanisms which attach said arm rest members to said frame assembly, such that said rigid arm rest members slide and pivot within said slide-pivot mechanisms as said chair frame assembly collapses and expands.
- 10. The collapsible chair of claim 9, wherein:
said frame assembly further includes, front support members and rear support members; and said pair of pivot mechanisms and said pair of slide-pivot mechanisms attach said pair of rigid arm rests to said front support members and said rear support members.
- 11. The collapsible chair of claim 10, wherein:
said pair of pivot mechanisms attach said pair of rigid arm rests to said front support members.
- 12. The collapsible chair of claim 9, wherein:
said rigid arm rest members are flat arm rest members; and said slide pivot mechanisms include flat member sliding mechanisms.
- 13. The collapsible chair of claim 12, wherein:
said pivot mechanisms are pivot enclosures, to which said flat arm rest members are attached by fasteners; and said slide-pivot mechanisms include slide enclosures and pivotal members.
- 14. The collapsible chair of claim 9, wherein:
said slide pivot mechanisms include tubular member sliding mechanisms.
- 15. The collapsible chair of claim 14, wherein:
said pivot mechanisms are pivotal members, to which arm rest members are attached; and said slide-pivot mechanisms include tubular enclosures and a tubular slide members.
- 16. A frame for a collapsible chair with rigid arm rests, comprising:
a plurality of frame members, the upper ends of said frame members being pivotally attached to upper connectors, and the lower ends being pivotally attached to lower pivot assemblies, such that said frame assembly as a whole expands outwardly from a central area; rear members, rear support members and front support members; a pair of rigid arm rest members; and a pair of pivot mechanisms and a pair of slide-pivot mechanisms which attach said arm rest members to said front support members and said rear support members.
- 17. The frame of claim 16, wherein:
said frame members are grouped into a plurality of scissor pairs which are joined near their midpoints by pivots; and ends of said frame members of said scissor pairs are joined at pivot assemblies to form an extended scissors-frame assembly, such that the frame moves towards a central area from all sides as a unit when the frame is to be collapsed, and moves away from this central area when expanding.
- 18. The frame of claim 16, wherein:
said pair of pivot mechanisms pivotally attach said pair of arm rests to said front support members.
- 19. The frame of claim 16, wherein:
said arm rest members are flat arm rest members; and said slide pivot mechanisms include flat member sliding mechanisms.
- 20. The frame of claim 19 wherein:
said pivot mechanisms are pivot enclosures, to which flat arm rest members are attached by fasteners; and said slide-pivot mechanisms include slide enclosures and pivotal members.
- 21. The frame of claim 16, wherein:
said slide pivot mechanisms include tubular member sliding mechanisms.
- 22. The frame of claim 21 wherein:
said pivot mechanisms are pivotal members, to which arm rest members are attached; and said slide-pivot mechanisms include tubular enclosures and a tubular slide members.
