Claims
- 1. An article comprising a hard coating comprising at least one Group 5 metal carbide and including 1-3% chromium carbide interspersed substantially homogeneously therein, and a core of steel including 0.7% to 1.2% by weight carbon and 4-8% chromium.
- 2. An article of claim 1 wherein said article is a chain pin having a core hardness of Rc44-56.
- 3. An article of claim 1 having a surface hardness of at least HV2000.
- 4. An article of claim 1 wherein said article is a chain pin.
- 5. An article of claim 1 wherein said core of steel comprises, weight percent:CCrMnSiMoPSAl0.7-4-80.25-0.25-0.2-0.030.030.051.20.450.550.55maxmaxmax.
- 6. An article of claim 5 wherein said article is a chain pin.
- 7. An article of claim 6 wherein said chain pin has a core hardness of Rc44-56.
- 8. An article of claim 7 wherein said chain pin has a surface hardness of at least HV2000.
