Abstract
A hat has a means for coupling configured to fit around a user's head and a brim. The brim is integral with the means for coupling. The brim has a middle section integral with the means for coupling and the middle section comprises a front rim that is straight without any curvature or bend. The brim has a right, angled, connection section integral with a right side of the middle section and integral with the means for coupling. Further, the brim has a left angled connection section integral with a left side of the middle section and integral with the means for coupling. Also, the brim has a right flap that extends ninety degrees (90°) downward relative to the middle section and a left flap that extends ninety degrees (90°) downward relative to the middle section.
Description
BACKGROUND

A hat (also referred to as a cap) is a head covering, which is worn for various reasons. For example, a hat can protect a person's head against unwanted weather conditions. Some hats are worn for ceremonial reasons. For example, at a graduation those graduating wear mortarboard hats with a tassel. Other reasons one may wear a hat include for religious reasons, safety, or as a fashion accessory.


Some sports enthusiasts wear hats. For example, baseball players wear hats, which aid their view of the ball as it is coming toward them, i.e., block the sun. Many fishermen wear berets. Some hunters wear coonskin hats. Football players wear a special type of hat called a helmet that protects the football players head. Individuals who ride horses often wear riding helmets as are seen on horse riders in the Kentucky Derby.


Often hats or caps are visors. A visor is an item of headgear that consists of a stiff brim attached to a strap that fits around the head leaving the top of the head uncovered. Visors protect the face, including the eyes, the nose, and cheeks from the sun. The brim may be either curved or flat, and the strap is equipped with an adjustable fastener in back. Visors were originally designed for use in outdoor sports like golf, tennis, volleyball, and softball, where eye protection from sunlight is desirable and the missing crown allows for ventilation.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The present disclosure describes a hat, e.g., a visor, that comprises a crownless strap that encircles a user's head in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The hat further comprises a brim that is coupled to the front of the strap. The brim of the present disclosure comprises four sections. The middle section is substantially trapezoid, and the front of the brim is straight having no curvature or bend.


On each side of the middle section is a substantially triangular section that bends down angularly from the middle section at an obtuse angle relative to the middle section. Further, coupled to the triangular, angled sections are substantially trapezoidal side flaps that extend downward at approximately a ninety (90°) angle. Note that ninety (90°) is merely exemplary. The trapezoidal side flaps may extend down at other angles in other embodiments.


The middle section, the side triangular sections, and the side trapezoidal flaps attach, are coupled to, or are integral with the crownless strap. In this regard, a portion of the side trapezoidal sections comprise a triangular section that may bend slightly inward to attach to or are integral with the strap. In another embodiment, the triangular sections may not bend inward but simply attach straight to the crownless strap.



FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a hat 100 in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. Note that the term hat is used, and this term may be construed as including a crown or being crownless. In the hat 100 shown in FIG. 1, the hat 100 is crownless.


The hat 100 comprises a crownless strap 108 that fits around a user's head 101. In one embodiment, the strap 108 may be a sweatband.


Attached to the crownless strap 108 is a brim 109. The user wears the hat 100 such that the brim 109 protrudes forward, is in the front of the user (but can be worn backwards), and provides cover for the user's face from sun, for example.


In one embodiment, the brim 109 comprises distinct but integral sections. In this regard, the brim 108 comprises a middle section 112. The middle section 112 is trapezoid-shaped. The middle section 112 comprises a front rim 106 that is a straight. That is, the front rim 106 extends or moves uniformly; without a curve or bend.


The middle section 112 couples to or is integral with the crownless strap 108 along a seam or bend III. In one embodiment, the middle section 112 is integral with the crownless strap 108 and coupled thereto, e.g., sewn to the strap 108.


The brim 109 further comprises a right, angled, connection section 113. The right, angled, connection section 113 is coupled to or integral with a bend 110 (or seam) that connects the middle section 112 with the right, angled, connection section 113. The right, angled connection section 113 angles downwardly from the middle section 112 forming an inner obtuse angle with the middle section 112.


The brim 109 further comprises a left, angled, connection section (not shown but shown in FIG. 2, reference number 315) on the left side of the middle section 112. The left, angled, connection section is coupled to or integral with a seam or bend 118 that connects the middle section 112 with the left, angled, connection section.


Note that the angle of the right, angled, connection section 113 and the left, angled, connection section may be obtusely coupled or integral with relative to the middle section 112. That is, at seam or bend 110, the right, angled, connection section 113 forms an underneath obtuse angle with the middle section 112 on the right side, and at seam or bend 118, the left, angled, connection section forms an obtuse angle with the underneath of the middle section 112 on the left side.


The brim 109 further comprises a right flap 114 and a left flap 215. The right flap 114 is integral with or coupled to an edge 107 of the right, angled connection section 113. The edge 107 may be a bend or seam in the brim 109. That is, the right flap 114 may be sewn to the right, angled connection section 113 along edge 107 or it may be a part of the brim 109.


The right flap 114 is substantially trapezoid-shaped. In this regard, the trapezoid-shaped right flap 114 has an edge 102. The edge 102 begins at the seam or bend 107 at rim 106. The edge 102 extends downward and back forming a curved portion of the edge 102.


Further, the right flap 114 extends downwardly from seam or bend 107 at an approximately a ninety degree (90°) angle relative to the middle section 112. Note that other angles at other degrees may be used in other embodiments.


The right flap 114 comprises a substantially triangular connection piece 116. The triangular connection piece 116 coupled to a seam or bend 415 of the right flap 114. A bottom edge 104 of the triangular connection piece 116 connects the right flap 114 to the seam 111. Further, along the hypotenuse of the triangular connection piece 116, the right flap 114 is coupled to the strap 108 along seam or bend 111.


The brim 109 further comprises a left flap 215. The left flap 215 is integral with or coupled to an edge 119 (not shown, shown in FIG. 2) of the left, angled connection section. The edge 119 may be a bend in the brim 109 or it may be a seam. That is, the left flap 215 may be sewn to the left, angled connection section along edge 119.


The left flap 215 is substantially trapezoidal-shaped. In this regard, the trapezoidal-shaped left flap 215 has an edge 103. The edge 103 begins at a seam or bend 118 of the left, angled, connection section. The edge 103 extends downward and back forming a curved portion of the edge 103. Further, the left flap 215 extends downwardly from seam or bend 118 at an approximately ninety degree (90°) angle relative to the middle section 112. Note that other angles of other degrees may be used in other embodiments.


The left flap 215 comprises a substantially triangular connection piece 120. The triangular connection piece 120 coupled to a seam or bend 105 in the left flap 215. One edge 121 of the triangular connection piece 120 connects the left flap 215 to the seam 111. Further, along the hypotenuse of the triangular connection piece 120, the left flap 215 is coupled to the strap 108 along seam or bend 111.


Note that the straight the front rim 106 extends or moves uniformly; without a curve or bend. The straight brim allows a golfer, for example, to better gauge the straightness of his/her swing and trajectory. Furthermore, the right flap 114 and the left flap 215 serve a variety of functions. For example, the flaps 114 and 215 block peripheral distractions, which is good for pool shooting, gun shooting, archery, and baseball out fielding. Also, at outdoor events, when sun is out, the flaps 114 and 215 can block the sun, which is advantageous for those who may be sensitive to light. The hat 100 is further advantageous when stargazing and bird watching.



FIG. 2 is a top right view of the hat 100 in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. In this regard, the hat 100 comprises the crownless strap 108 that fits around the user's head 101 (FIG. 1). In one embodiment, the strap 108 may be a sweatband.


Attached to the crownless strap 108 is the brim 109. The user wears the hat 100 such that the brim 109 protrudes forward, is in the front of the user (but can be worn backwards), and provides cover for the user's face from sun, for example, and provides other functionality as described hereinabove.


The brim 109 comprises distinct but integral sections. In this regard, the brim 109 comprises a middle section 112. The middle section 112 is trapezoidal-shaped. The edge 106 of the middle section 112 is slightly longer than the edge that couples via a seam or a bend along seam or bend 111. Furthermore, each side seam or bend, left bend or seam 118 or right bend or seam 110 converge at acute angles toward the center of the seam 111 of the middle section 112. The middle section 112 comprises a front rim 106 that is a straight, front rim 106. That is, the front rim 106 extends uniformly in one direction only; without a curve or bend.


The middle section 112 couples to the crownless strap 108 along the seam or bend 111. Notably, the middle section 112 is integral with the crownless strap 108 and coupled thereto, e.g., sewn to the strap 108.


The brim 109 further comprises a right, angled, connection section 113. The right, angled, connection section 113 is coupled to or integral with a bend or seam 110 that connects the middle section 112 with the right, angled, connection section 113.


The brim 109 further comprises a left, angled, connection section 315 on the left side of the middle section 112. The left, angled, connection section 315 is coupled to or integral with a seam or bend 118 that connects the middle section 112 with the left, angled, connection section 315.


Note that the angle of the right, angled, connection section 113 and the left, angled, connection section 315 may be obtusely coupled and positioned relative to the middle section 112. That is, at seam or bend 110, the right, angled, connection section 113 forms an obtuse angle under the brim 109 with the middle section 112 and at seam or bend 118 on the left side, the left, angled connection section 315 forms an obtuse angle under the brim 109 with the middle section 112 on the left side.


The brim 109 further comprises a right flap 114 and a left flap 215 (FIG. 1). The right flap 114 is integral with or coupled to an edge 107 of the right, angled connection section 113. The edge 107 may be a bend in the brim 109 or it may be a seam. That is, the right flap 114 may be sewn to the right, angled connection section 113 along edge 107 or may be integral with the right, angled connection section 113.


The right flap 114 is substantially trapezoidal-shaped. In this regard, the trapezoidal-shaped right flap 114 has an edge 102. The edge 102 begins at the seam or bend 107 of the right, angled, connection section 113. The edge 102 traverses downward and back forming a curved portion of the edge 102. Further, the right flap 114 extends downwardly from seam or bend 107 at an approximately ninety degree (90°) angle relative to the middle section 112. Note that other angles at other degrees may be used in other embodiments.


The right flap 114 comprises a substantially triangular connection piece 116. The triangular connection piece 116 is coupled to a seam or bend 415 in the right flap 114. One edge 104 of the triangular connection piece 116 connects the right flap 114 to the seam 111. Further, along the hypotenuse of the triangular connection piece 116, the right flap 114 is coupled to the strap 108 along seam or bend 111.


The brim 109 further comprises the left flap 215. The left flap 215 is integral with or coupled to an edge 119 of the left, angled connection section 315. The edge 119 may be a bend or seam in the brim 109. That is, the left flap 215 may be sewn to the left, angled connection section 315 along edge 119 or it may be one with and integral with the left, angled connection section 315.


The left flap 215 is substantially trapezoidal-shaped. In this regard, the trapezoidal-shaped left flap 215 has an edge 103 (FIG. 1). The edge 103 begins at the seam or bend 119 of the left, angled, connection section 315. The edge 119 extends downward and back forming a curved portion of the edge 103. Further, the left flap 215 extends downwardly from seam or bend 119 at an approximately ninety degree (90°) angle relative to the middle section 112. Note that other angles of other degrees may be used in other embodiments.


The left flap 215 comprises a substantially triangular connection piece 120 (FIG. 1). The triangular connection piece 120 coupled to a seam or bend 515 in the left flap 215. One edge 121 (FIG. 1) of the triangular connection piece 120 connects the left flap 215 to the seam 111. Further, along the hypotenuse of the triangular connection piece 120, the left flap 215 is coupled to the strap 108 along seam or bend 111.



FIG. 3 is a front view of the hat 100 in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. In this regard, the hat 100 comprises the strap 108 and the brim 109. The brim 109 comprises a middle section 112 that is integral with or coupled to angled, triangular, connection sections 113 (on the right) and 315 (on the left).


The right, triangular, connection section 113 couples to or is integral with the middle section 112 along seam or bend 110. Further, the right, triangular, connection section 113 couples to or is integral with the right flap 114 that connects to the seam 111 along edge 104 (FIG. 1) of triangular connection piece 116 (FIG. 1).


The left, triangular, connection section 315 couples to or is integral with the middle section 112 along seam or bend 118. Further, the left, triangular, connection section 315 couples to or is integral with the right flap 215 (FIG. 1) that couples to or is integral with the bend or seam 300.


Note that the middle section 112 comprises a front edge 106. The front edge 106 extends uniformly in a straight line; without a curve or bend. Further note that the right flap 114 and the left flap 215 extend downwardly at an angle A, where angle A is approximately a ninety degree (90°) angle. As described above, these two features serve a variety of functionality.



FIG. 4 is a left side view of the hat 100 in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The hat 100 comprises the middle section 112 that is coupled to or integral with the seam or bend 111 thereby coupling the middle section 112 to the strap 108.


Coupled to or integral with the middle section 112 on the left side of the hat 100 is a left, triangular, connection section 315. One side of the left, triangular connection section 315 is coupled to or is integral with the bend or seam 118 and the left, triangular connection section 315 angles downwardly at an obtuse angle relative to the underside of the middle section 112.


The left flap 215 is coupled to or integral with the left, triangular connection section 315 along seam or bend 300. The left flap 215 extends downwardly at a substantially right angle relative to the middle section 112. Further, the left flap 215 is coupled to or integral with the seam or bend 111 thereby connecting the left flap 215 to the strap 108.



FIG. 5 is a back view of the hat 100 in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The strap 108 is coupled to the left flap 215 and the right flap 114 along the seam or bend 111 (FIG. 1 and FIG. 2). The flaps 215 and 114 are coupled to or integral with the middle section 112. The middle section 112 comprises a front rim 106 that extends uniformly in a straight line; without a curve or bend. The functionality of the straight line without a curve or bend is described hereinabove.



FIG. 6 is a right side view of the hat 100 in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The hat 100 comprises the middle section 112 that is coupled to or integral with the seam or bend 111 thereby coupling the middle section 112 to the strap 108.


Coupled to or integral with the middle section 112 on the right side of the hat 100 is a left, triangular, connection section 113. One side of the right, triangular connection section 113 is coupled to or is integral with the bend or seam 110 and the right, triangular connection section 113 angles downwardly at an obtuse angle relative to the underside of the middle section 112.


A right flap 114 is coupled to or integral with the left, triangular connection section 113 along seam or bend 107. The right flap 114 extends downwardly at a substantially right angle relative to the middle section 112. Further, the right flap 114 is coupled to or integral with the seam or bend 415 that couples the right flap 114 to the triangular connection piece 116 thereby connecting the right flap 114 to the strap 108.



FIG. 7 is a top view of the hat 100 in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The strap 108 is coupled to or integral with the brim 109 along the seam or bend 111.


The brim 109 comprises a middle section 112 that is coupled to or integral with the seam or bend 111 thereby coupling the brim 109 to the strap 108. The middle section 112 comprises a straight front rim 106 with no curvature or bend. The functionality of the straight rim 106 having no curvature or bend is described hereinabove.


The brim 109 further comprises a right, angled connection section 113. The right, angled, connection section 113 is substantially triangular and is coupled to or integral with a bend or seam 10 that connects the middle section 112 with the right, angled, connection section 113.


The brim 109 further comprises a left, angled, connection section 315 on the left side of the middle section 112. The left, angled, connection section 315 is substantially triangular and is coupled to or integral with the seam or bend 118 that connects the middle section 112 with the left, angled, connection section 315.


Note that the angle of the right, angled, connection section 113 and the left, angled, connection section 315 may be obtusely coupled to and positioned relative to the underside of the middle section 112. That is, at seam or bend 110, the right, angled, connection section 113 forms an obtuse angle with the underside of the middle section 112 and at seam or bend 118, the left, angled connection section 315 forms an obtuse angle with the underside of the middle section 112 on the left side.


Furthermore, there is a right seam or bend 107 that is coupled to or integral with the right flap 114 (FIG. 6). Also, the hat 100 comprises the left seam or bend 119 that is coupled to or integral with the left flap 215 (FIG. 4). Notably, the right flap 114 and the left flap 215 are coupled and positioned at approximately a ninety degree (90°) angle relative to the middle section 112.



FIG. 8 is a bottom view of the hat 100 in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The hat 100 comprises the strap 108 and the brim 109. Note that the strap 108 could be a sweatband in one embodiment. The brim 109 is coupled to or integral with the strap 108 along seam or bend 111. That is, the brim 109 may be sewn onto strap 108 or the strap 108 and the brim 109 are an integral piece.


In one embodiment, the hat 100 comprises sections that make up the brim 109. In this regard, the brim 109 comprises a middle section 112. The middle section 112 is substantially trapezoidal-shaped having a straight rim 106 that has no curvatures or bends. The middle section 112 comprises seams or bends 118 and 110 that converge inward toward the seam or bend 111, and the brim 109 is coupled to or integral with the strap 108 along the seam or bend 111. Note that the functionality of the straight rim 106 without curvature or bend is described hereinabove.


The brim 109 further comprises a right, angled connection section 113 that is coupled to or integral with the middle section 112 along seam or bend 110. The right, angled connection section 113 is coupled to or integral with the middle section at an angle B, where B is greater than ninety degrees (90°). Thus, right, angled connection section 113 is coupled to or integral with middle section 112 at an obtuse angle.


The brim 109 further comprises a right flap 114 that extends downward at an angle A, where A is approximately ninety degrees (90°) relative to the middle section 112. The right flap 114 is coupled to or integral with the right, angled connection section 113 along seam or bend 107.


The right flap 114 comprises a triangle connection piece 116 that is integral with and coupled to the right flap 114. The triangle connection piece 116 couples the right flap 114 to the seam or bend 111 such that the right flap 114 is coupled to the strap 108.


The brim 109 further comprises a left, angled connection section 315 that is coupled to or integral with the middle section 112 along seam or bend 118. The left, angled connection section 315 is coupled to or integral with the middle section at an angle B, where B is greater than ninety degrees (90°). Thus, left, angled connection section 315 is coupled to or integral with middle section 112 at an obtuse angle.


The brim 109 further comprises a left flap 215 that extends downward at an angle A, where A is approximately ninety degrees (90°) relative to the middle section 112. The right flap 215 is coupled to or integral with the left, angled connection section 315 along seam or bend 118.


The left flap 215 comprises a triangle connection piece 120 that is integral with and coupled to the left flap 215. The triangle connection piece 116 couples the left flap 215 to the seam or bend 111 such that the left flap 215 is coupled to the strap 108.

Claims
  • 1. A hat, comprising: a means for coupling to user's head;a brim integral with the means for coupling, the brim comprising a middle section integral with the means for coupling and the middle section comprises a front rim that is straight without any curvature or bend, a right angled connection section integral with a right side of the middle section and integral with the means for coupling, a left angled connection section integral with a left side of the middle section and integral with the means for coupling, a right flap that extends approximately ninety degrees (90°) downward relative to the middle section and a left flap that extends approximately ninety degrees (90°) downward relative to the middle section.
  • 2. The hat of claim 1, wherein the means is a strap.
  • 3. The hat of claim 1, wherein the means is a cap.
  • 4. The hat of claim 1, wherein the means is a sweatband.
  • 5. The hat of claim 1, wherein the brim is sewn to the means for coupling.
  • 6. The hat of claim 1, wherein the middle section comprises a right seam or bend and a left seam or bend.
  • 7. The hat of claim 4, wherein the right seam or bend and the left seam or bend begins at the rim and traverses back toward the means for coupling converging together toward the means for coupling.
  • 8. The hat of claim 1, wherein the right, angled connection section is at an obtuse angle relative to the middle section.
  • 9. The hat of claim 6, wherein the right flap is approximately ninety degrees (90°) relative to the middle section.
  • 10. The hat of claim 7, wherein the right flap is coupled to or integral with the means for coupling via a triangular connection piece that couples the right flap to the means for coupling.
  • 11. The hat of claim 8, wherein a hypotenuse of the triangular connection piece couples to a seam or bend between the brim and the means for coupling.
  • 12. The hat of claim 1, wherein the left, angled connection section is at an obtuse angle relative to the middle section.
  • 13. The hat of claim 10, wherein the left flap is approximately ninety degrees (90°) relative to the middle section.
  • 14. The hat of claim 11, wherein the left flap is coupled to or integral with the means for coupling via a triangular connection piece that couples the left flap to the means for coupling.
  • 15. The hat of claim 12, wherein a hypotenuse of the triangular connection piece couples to a seam or bend between the brim and the means for coupling.
