The disclosure relates to covering devices and more particularly pertains to a new covering device for covering a user's hair. The present invention discloses a covering device for covering head hair of a user and which is held in place by an elastic band, which is substantially aligned with a hairline of the user, and a pair of straps, each of which is positionable around a respective ear of the user.
The prior art relates to covering devices, which may comprise bathing caps that cover ears of users, swimming caps that leave ears of users exposed, and caps worn while sleeping to deaden ambient noises by positioning pads over ears of users. Related prior art comprises flexible bands for positioning over bathing caps to seal the caps, with cutouts being positioned in the bands to accommodate ears of the users. What is lacking in the prior art is a covering device comprising a shell for positioning on a head of a user and having a pair of straps, each of which is positionable around a respective ear of the user.
An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a shell, which is resiliently flexible and in which an opening is positioned so that the shell is configured for partial insertion of a head of a user. A band, which is resiliently stretchable, is attached to the shell and extends circumferentially around a perimeter of the opening. The band is configured to be stretched to allow for partial insertion of the head of the user through the opening and into the shell. The band is configured to rebound to frictionally engage the shell to the head of the user, with the perimeter of the shell being substantially aligned with a hairline of a scalp of the user. The shell thus is configured to cover hair on the scalp. Each strap of a pair of straps has opposed ends that are attached to the perimeter on a respective opposed side of the shell, thereby defining a loop. The loop is configured to be positioned around a respective ear of the user to secure the shell to the head of the user, with the ears of the user being exposed.
Another embodiment of the disclosure includes a method of covering head hair comprising a first step providing a shell, as described above, and additional steps for positioning the shell on a head of a user so that that head hair of the user is covered.
There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

A band 16, which comprises rubber, silicone, or elastomer and which thus is resiliently stretchable, is attached to the shell 12 and extends circumferentially around a perimeter 18 of the opening 14. A scalp sheath 20, which comprises porous elastomer or cloth, such as silk or the like, is positioned around the band 16 to increase comfort of the user. The band 16 is configured to be stretched to allow for partial insertion of the head of the user through the opening 14 and into the shell 12. The band 16 is configured to rebound to frictionally engage the shell 12 to the head of the user, with the perimeter 18 of the shell 12 being substantially aligned with a hairline of a scalp of the user. The shell 12 thus is configured to cover hair on the scalp.
Each strap 22 of a pair of straps 22 has opposed ends 24 that are attached to the perimeter 18 on a respective opposed side 26 of the shell 12, thereby defining a loop 28. The loop 28 is configured to be positioned around a respective ear of the user to secure the shell 12 to the head of the user, with the ears of the user being exposed. The strap 22 comprises rubber, silicone, or elastomer and thus is resiliently stretchable. The strap 22 is configured to be stretched to allow for insertion of the respective ear and then to rebound to secure the shell 12 to the head of the user. Each ear sheath 30 of a pair of ear sheathes 30 is positioned around a respective strap 22. The ear sheathes 30 comprise porous elastomer or cloth, such as silk or the like, and serve to increase comfort of the user.

In use, the head hair covering device 10 enables of method of covering head hair 38, which comprises a first step 40 of providing a head hair covering device 10 according to the specification above. A second step 42 of the method 38 is stretching the band 16 to expand the opening 14 in the shell 12. A third step 44 of the method 38 is partially inserting the head of the user through the opening 14 into the shell 12. A fourth step 46 of the method 38 is adjusting the band 16 to substantially align with the hairline of the scalp of the user. A fifth step 48 of the method 38 is allowing the band 16 to rebound. A sixth step 50 of the method 38 is positioning each strap 22 over a respective ear of the user.
With the shell 12 comprising porous elastomer or cloth, such as silk, the shell 12 is breathable and can be worn to bed by a user to help retain the user's hair style, without inducing sweating and buildup of moisture between the shell 12 and the scalp of the user. With the shell 12 comprising nonporous elastomer, the shell 12 is impermeable to water and can be used while bathing. The ears of the user remain exposed so that they can be cleansed.
With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
