- 10. The heat exchanger of claim 9 comprising two conical assemblies wherein said first conical assembly connects said shell to said first tubesheet and said second conical assembly connects said shell to said second tubesheet.
- 11. The heat exchanger of claim 9 wherein said conical assembly further comprises at least one outlet nozzle for permitting said shell-side fluid to exit said heat exchanger.
- 12. The heat exchanger of claim 9 wherein at least one of said tubesheets further comprises a conical tubesheet extension, said conical tubesheet extension protruding in the direction toward the interior of said shell and away from said second inlet nozzle.
- 13. The heat exchanger of claim 12 wherein said conical tubesheet extension is centered on the surface of said tubesheet.
- 14. The heat exchanger of claim 13 wherein the diameter of said conical tubesheet extension is the same as the diameter of said tube bundle.
- 15. The heat exchanger of claim 13 wherein the diameter of said conical tubesheet extension is less than the diameter of said tube bundle.
- 16. A heat exchanger comprising:
(a) a tube bundle further comprising a plurality of tubes for transporting a first fluid; (b) a first tubesheet, said first tubesheet comprising a plurality of apertures for receiving first ends of said plurality of tubes; (c) a second tubesheet, said second tubesheet comprising a plurality of apertures for receiving second ends of said plurality of tubes; (d) a shell for transporting a second fluid, said tube bundle being contained within said shell; (e) a first cone, said first cone connecting said shell to said first tubesheet; (f) a second cone, said second cone connecting said shell to said second tubesheet; (g) wherein said shell extends beyond the point at which said first cone contacts said shell in the direction of said first tubesheet.
- 17. The heat exchanger of claim 16 wherein said shell further extends beyond the point at which said second cone contacts said shell in the direction of said second tubesheet.
- 18. The heat exchanger of claim 16 wherein each said tube passes completely through said first tubesheet and comprises a sacrificial section extending in an axial direction away from said first tubesheet and away from said shell.
- 19. The heat exchanger of claim 16 wherein said first tubesheet further comprises a first conical tubesheet extension, said first conical tubesheet extension protruding in the direction toward the interior of said shell.
- 20. The heat exchanger of claim 19 wherein said second tubesheet further comprises a second conical tubesheet extension, said second conical tubesheet extension protruding in the direction toward the interior of said shell.
- 21. The heat exchanger of claim 16 wherein said heat exchanger is a one-tube-pass heat exchanger.
- 22. The heat exchanger of claim 16 wherein said heat exchanger is a multi-tube-pass heat exchanger.
- 23. A heat exchanger comprising:
(a) a tube bundle further comprising a plurality of tubes for transporting a first fluid wherein said tubes are formed in a “U” shape; (b) a tubesheet, said tubesheet comprising a plurality of apertures for receiving both ends of said plurality of tubes; (c) a shell for transporting a second fluid, said tube bundle being contained within said shell; (d) a first cone, said first cone connecting said shell to said tubesheet; (e) wherein said shell extends beyond the point at which said first cone contacts said shell in the direction towards said tubesheet.
