Claims
- 1. Method of making a heat-shrinkable film comprising steps of
- a) blending from 40 to 85 parts by weight of an EVA copolymer having a vinyl acetate content of from 15% to 50% and a melt index of from 1 to 100 (Cond. E of ASTM Method D 1238), and correspondingly from 60 to 15 parts by weight of an (A-B) block copolymer where A is polystyrene, and B is selected from polyisoprene, polybutadiene, and poly(ethylenebutylene), which (A-B) block copolymer an A-block content of from 10 to 45% and a melt index of from 0.1 to 25 (Cond. G),
- b) forming the blend into a thin extrudate, and
- c) uniaxially cold-stretching the extrudate at least 3X to provide a film that shrinks in the stretched direction at least 25% within 5 seconds at 54.degree. C.
- 2. Method as defined in claim 1, step c) of which comprises uniaxially cold-stretching the extrudate from 4X to 5.5X.
- 3. Method as defined in claim 1 wherein the cold-stretching step c) is carried out at a temperature of from 40.degree. to 50.degree. C.
- 4. Method as defined in claim 1 wherein step c) is immediately followed by step d) quenching the heat-shrinkable film in order to lock it into a thermodynamically-unstable oriented configuration.
- 5. Method as defined in claim 1 wherein prior to step c) is the added step of adhering to each surface of the extrudate a polyolefin surface layer.
- 6. Method as defined in claim 5 wherein the polyolefin is selected from polyethylene, polypropylene, and a blend of polyethylene or polypropylene with another polyolefin.
- 7. Method as defined in claim 1 wherein step a) further comprises blending with the other ingredients an anti-blocking agent in an amount of from 1 to 10% by weight of the blend.
