Claims
- 1. A heel shim and lifter assembly adapted for use with a ski, comprising:
a mounting plate for attaching the heel shim and lifter assembly onto the ski; and a heel shim block pivotably connected to the mounting plate; wherein the heel shim block is pivotably connected to the mounting plate along an axis of rotation that runs perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the ski and parallel to the top surface of the ski when the heel shim and lifter assembly is attached onto the ski, and wherein the heel shim block is pivotable between a heel shim skiing position and an elevated hiking position when the heel shim and lifter assembly is attached onto the ski.
- 2. The heel shim and lifter assembly of claim 1 further comprising a spring mechanism that applies (i) a force tangential and counter clockwise to the axis of rotation when the heel shim block is at the elevated hiking position, and (ii) a force tangential and clockwise to the axis of rotation when the heel shim block is at the heel shim skiing position.
- 3. The heel shim and lifter assembly of claim 1 wherein the heel shim block has a hollowed out region.
- 4. The heel shim and lifter assembly of claim 1 further comprising a pivot rod that pivotably connects the heel shim block to the mounting plate along the axis of rotation.
- 5. The heel shim and lifter assembly of claim 4 wherein the mounting plate further comprises at least one trunnion, wherein the at least one trunnion has a hole that is adapted to receive the pivot rod.
- 6. The heel shim and lifter assembly of claim 5 further comprising at least one spring that is connected to the mounting plate and the heel shim block, and wherein the at least one spring applies (i) a force tangential and counter clockwise to the axis of rotation when the heel shim block is at the elevated hiking position, and (iii) a force tangential and clockwise to the axis of rotation when the heel shim block is at the heel shim skiing position.
- 7. The heel shim and lifter assembly of claims 1 wherein the mounting plate and the heel shim block are made of metal.
- 8. A heel shim and lifter assembly adapted for use with a ski, comprising:
a mounting plate means for attaching the heel shim and lifter assembly onto the ski; and a heel shim block means that is pivotably connected to the mounting plate means; wherein the heel shim block means is pivotably connected to the mounting plate means along an axis of rotation that runs perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the ski and parallel to the top surface of the ski when the heel shim and lifter assembly is attached onto the ski, and wherein the heel shim block means is pivotable between a heel shim skiing position and an elevated hiking position when the heel shim and lifter assembly is attached onto the ski.
- 9. The heel shim and lifter assembly of claim 8 further comprising a spring means that applies (i) a force tangential and counter clockwise to the axis of rotation when the heel shim block is at the elevated hiking position, and (ii) a force tangential and clockwise to the axis of rotation when the heel shim block is at the heel shim skiing position.
- 10. A heel shim and lifter assembly adapted for use with a ski, comprising a mounting plate having at least one trunnion that is pivotably connected to a heel shim component, wherein the mounting plate is adapted to attach the heel shim and lifter assembly onto the ski, and wherein the heel shim component is positionable between an elevated hiking position and a heel shim skiing position.
