Claims
- 1. An apparatus for positioning a chair of stitches for stitching onto fabric having a needle and a throat plate, comprising:
- means for positioning the chain of stitches forwardly of the needle; and
- means for moving the fabric to the throat plate for sewing the chain onto the fabric.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the moving means comprises movable belt means.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1 including second means for moving the sewn fabric away from the throat plate.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1 including means for turning the fabric relative to the sewing machine during sewing.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 4 including means for passing a portion of the fabric in a straight line path during sewing.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 5 including means for sewing the straight line path prior to turning the fabric and sewing a curved path.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1 including means for grasping the chain of stitches in the forward position, and means for releasing the chain from the grasping means.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein the grasping means comprises, an elongated lower plate, an elongated nipper having a finger, and an elongated guide having an end portion defining a space between the end portion and finger.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 8 including a cutting device, a cylinder having a piston received through the plate to selectively move the nipper away from the plate, and a blower directed to blow the chain in the path of the cutting device.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 1 including a cutting device, and means for placing the chain in the path of the cutting device.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein the second moving means comprises movable belt means.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein the grasping means is located at a position beneath the throat plate.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the releasing means comprises means for moving the nipper away from the plate.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 1 including a feed dog, and a cutting device, wherein the throat plate includes a forward notch, and means for grasping the chain of stitches in the forward position with the chain in received in the notch.
