Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The use of hemp paper to manufacture cardboard cartons or corrugated boxes.


BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Hemp is a source of fiber that comes from the plant species Cannabis sativa. Hemp can be produced much faster than trees. Hemp stalks grow in four months, whereas trees can take twenty to eighty years. One acre of hemp can yield 1,300 pounds of fiber and produce as much paper as four to ten acres of trees over a twenty year cycle. Unlike trees, hemp plants can be grown without using any pesticides or herbicides. The wider use of hemp plants can reduce deforestation.


The hemp-growing industry is regulated throughout the United States. Recent regulations have sought to encourage this nascent industry as biodegradable hemp raw materials can be turned into biodegradable hemp-based products. Biodegradable hemp products break down in approximately 90 days versus the dozens of years it takes petroleum-based plastics to break down into microplastics that frequently end up in the ocean.


Hemp plant stalks have two parts. The bast fibers, or outer part of the stalk have a grassy texture and typically contain almost 80% cellulose. The hurd, or inner part of the stalk, has a woody core made up of cellulose-laden bundles of short fiber. The process of separating the bast fiber from the hurd fiber is called decortication. To facilitate decortication, dew retting or water retting is typically done first. Retting uses bacteria and moisture to dissolve away the gummy substances that surround bast fiber bundles.


Hemp paper is a plant based, non-toxic, sustainable alternative to conventional paper made from trees. Hemp paper is primarily made from the bast fibers of hemp plants. Hemp paper has a low lignin and high cellulose content. Hemp paper does not age or discolor with time. The quality of hemp paper is better than that of paper made from the wood pulp of trees. Hemp paper is thin, and lightweight, with a high degree of stiffness. Hemp paper is tough, brittle and rough. Wood pulp paper is softer and thicker than hemp paper. Hemp paper is more difficult to make and is stronger than wood pulp paper. Hemp paper can be recycled up to eight times, compared to just three times for paper made from wood pulp.


U.S. Pat. No. 5,080,702 relates to a disposable two-ply filter for a vacuum cleaner bag, wherein the outer ply may be wood paper, hemp paper or any other filter paper, cloth or fabric well known in the art.


U.S. Pat. No. 5,700,599 relates to a high absorption rate battery separator of a nonwoven cellulosic substrate coated on at least one surface with a cellulosic film and a process for making such separator by contacting a nonwoven cellulosic textile substrate with a cellulose or cellulose derivative solution on at least one side of the substrate. Preferred nonwovens are paper webs such as hemp paper bonded with hydrogen bonds, cellulose or food grade binders.


U.S. Pat. No. 7,537,514 relates to a double casing with netting for food products, wherein the material of the tube comprises a combination of materials selected from the group consisting of edible collagen of bovine or porcine origin, inedible collagen, regenerated collagen, regenerated or fibrous collagen, plastic material, hemp paper, any type of paper, and a polysaccharide.


U.S. Pat. No. 7,666,484 relates to a ready to use food packaging film, wherein in one embodiment the film is made out of hemp paper.


U.S. Pat. No. 5,744,251 relates to a cellulosic composition and article. Fibrous casing made in the casing industry is produced by coating regenerated cellulose onto a sheet or tube of hemp paper.


US patent publication 2019/0280135 relates to a room temperature printing method for producing a PV layer sequence. The process is characterized in that the carrier used for the PV layer sequence comprises continuous, flat sheets of material, preferably sheets of film and/or sheets of paper, more preferably sheets of hemp paper. Hemp offers the advantage that it can be manufactured in a sulfate-free manner; provided with additional moisture inhibitor and/or biocide, such as hemp paper can advantageously withstand high temperatures without yellowing or significant mechanical degradation or any decline in its properties.


SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a cardboard carton or corrugated box that is comprised of hemp paper. The definition of a cardboard carton includes a cardboard box. The definition of hemp paper includes machine made hemp paper. The present invention relates to a cardboard carton or corrugated box that is comprised of hemp paper made from one hundred percent hemp. The present invention relates to a cardboard carton or corrugated box that is comprised of hemp paper made from one to twenty five percent hemp. The present invention relates to a cardboard carton or corrugated box that is comprised of hemp paper made from twenty five to fifty percent hemp. The present invention relates to a cardboard carton or corrugated box that is comprised of hemp paper made from fifty to seventy-five percent hemp. The present invention relates to a cardboard carton or corrugated box that is comprised of hemp paper made from seventy-five to one hundred percent hemp. It is an object of the present invention for the remaining percentage of the paper that is not hemp paper to be made of post-consumer waste recycled content wood pulp. It is an object of the present invention for the remaining percentage of paper that is not hemp paper to be made of post-industrial recycled content wood pulp. It is an object of the present invention for the remaining percentage of paper that is not hemp paper to be made of virgin wood pulp. It is an object of the present invention for the remaining percentage of paper that is not hemp paper to be made from any combination of post-consumer waste recycled content wood pulp, post-industrial recycled content wood pulp or virgin wood pulp.


It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper to have a hurd content of less than 15%. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper to have a hurd content of less than 10%. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper to have a hurd content of less than 5%. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper that is not made from the hurd of the hemp stalk to be made from the bast fiber of the hemp stalk. It is an object of the present invention for hemp paper to be made from some combination of hemp hurd, hemp bast fiber, post-consumer recycled content wood pulp and post-industrial recycled content wood pulp. It is an object of the present invention for hemp paper to be made from some combination of hemp hurd, hemp bast fiber, post-consumer recycled content wood pulp, post-industrial recycled content wood pulp, preservatives, chemicals and additives. It is an object of the present invention to use as low a hurd content percentage as possible to increase the strength of hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention to make hemp paper without using any clay, fillers, chemicals or additives. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper to comprise clay, fillers, chemicals or additives.


It Is an object of the present invention to harvest hemp plants to make hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention to genetically modify hemp plants so that they do not comprise THC or CBD compounds. It is an object of the present invention to harvest genetically modified hemp plants that do not comprise THC or CBD compounds and make hemp paper from those plants.


Tensile strength refers to the maximum stress needed to break a strip of paper sheet. Tensile strength is measured in two directions—machine direction, commonly abbreviated as MD, and cross direction, commonly abbreviated as CD. Cross direction is also referred to as transverse direction, commonly abbreviated as TD. MD means the direction that the paper web runs on a paper machine, while CD means the direction perpendicular to MD. It is an object of the present invention that hemp paper have a tensile MD strength ranging from five pounds to two hundred pounds per inch, preferably from twenty pounds to one hundred pounds per inch. It is an object of the present invention that hemp paper have a tensile CD strength ranging from five pounds to two hundred pounds per inch, preferably from twenty pounds to one hundred pounds per inch. It is an object of the present invention that hemp paper have a MD strength greater than CD strength. It is an object of the present invention that hemp paper have a MD strength greater than or equal to CD strength.


Elongation percentage refers to the stretch required to rupture a paper sheet. Elongation percentage is measured in two directions—machine direction, commonly abbreviated as MD, and cross direction, commonly abbreviated as CD. It is an object of the present invention that hemp paper have an elongation MD percentage ranging from one half to twenty pounds per inch, preferably from two pounds to ten pounds per inch. It is an object of the present invention that hemp paper have an elongation CD percentage ranging from one half pound to twenty pounds per inch, preferably from two pounds to ten pounds per inch. It is an object of the present invention that hemp paper has more stretch built into it in both MD and CD directions than wood pulp paper. It is an object of the present invention that the greater MD and CD stretch percentages allow hemp paper to fold without the risk of cracking.


It is an object of the present invention that hemp paper be treated or coated with AKD sizing, a wax derivative. It is an object of the present invention to use AKD sizing as a preventative measure to reduce the level of curling in the hemp corrugated linerboard, flute and cardboard cartons so that the hemp box will lay flat on a surface.


A corrugated sheet consists of two major components—linerboard and medium. Linerboard are flat sheets. Medium is the fluted or arched paper found between two linerboards. Medium has a wavelike, corrugated shape and is glued between the two linerboards. The waves of the medium are called its flutes. It is an object of the present invention for the corrugated linerboard to comprise hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for the medium and its flutes to comprise hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for the corrugated linerboard and medium of a corrugated box to comprise hemp paper.


The difference between a cardboard carton and a corrugated box is that a cardboard carton is formed by linerboard sheets and contains no medium or flute. Cardboard cartons are usually thinner than corrugated boxes. It is an object of the present invention to use cardboard cartons comprised of hemp paper for lightweight objects. It is an object of the present invention to use cardboard cartons comprised of hemp paper to transport or store popcorn served at venues such as movie theaters and sporting events.


The present invention relates to a cardboard sheet that is comprised of hemp paper made from one to twenty five percent hemp; the cardboard sheet used to form a carton. The present invention relates to a cardboard sheet that is comprised of hemp paper made from twenty five to fifty percent hemp; the cardboard sheet used to form a carton. Corrugated boxes are typically used for shipping or storage of heavyweight items. It is an object of the present invention to use corrugated boxes comprised of hemp paper for shipping or storage. It is an object of the present invention to use corrugated boxes comprised of hemp paper to transport or store food such as pizza or donuts.


Four different types of wall board exist: single face board, single-wall board, double-wall board and triple-wall board Single face board has only two layers, a linerboard layer and a corrugated or fluted layer. It is an object of the present invention for single face board packaging to comprise hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for the linerboard layer to comprise hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for the corrugated or fluted layer to comprise hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for single face board packaging comprised of hemp paper to be used as a cushioning material for objects in other containers.


Single-wall board is the most common type of corrugated cardboard. It consists of two outer linerboards and a middle layer of corrugated medium or flute. It is an object of the present invention for single-wall board boxes to comprise hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for the linerboards to comprise hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for the middle layer of corrugated medium or flute to comprise hemp paper.


Double-wall board has two layers of corrugated fluting and three linerboards. It is an object of the present invention for double-wall board boxes to comprise hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for the linerboards to comprise hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for the corrugated fluting to comprise hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for double-wall board boxes comprised of hemp paper to be used for heavier items such as large appliances.


Triple-wall board has three layers of corrugated fluting and four linerboards. It is an object of the present invention for triple-wall board boxes to comprise hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for the linerboards to comprise hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for the corrugated fluting to comprise hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for triple-wall board boxes comprised of hemp paper to be used as export packaging for extremely heavy items.


The present invention relates to corrugated linerboard that is comprised of hemp paper made from one to twenty five percent hemp. The present invention relates to corrugated linerboard that is comprised of hemp paper made from twenty five to fifty percent hemp. The present invention relates to corrugated linerboard that is comprised of hemp paper made from fifty to seventy-five percent hemp. The present invention relates to three types of corrugated slotted containers comprised of hemp paper— RSC, FOL, and HSC. It is an object of the present invention that a regular slotted container (RSC) box comprised of hemp paper have four flaps on the top and bottom of the box, each flap with a length equal to one-half of the box width. The four flaps meet in the middle and can be taped closed. RSC is the most widely used style of corrugated shipping box. It is an object of the present invention that RSC boxes comprised of hemp paper have C-flute cardboard. It is an object of the present invention that a full overlap slotted container (FOL) box comprised of hemp paper have long closure flaps that overlap each other almost completely, creating extra layers of corrugated board that result in a strong, cushioned box. HSC's can be used to create a telescope box.


Burst strength, typically assessed using the Mullen test, refers to the hydraulic pressure applied to a corrugated board's face until its linerboard component ruptures. Burst strength measures how much pressure it takes to push through the linerboard of a piece of corrugated board. Burst strength rating is measured in pounds per square inch and is closely related to the tensile strength of the linerboard. It is an object of the present invention that a single-wall corrugated box comprised of hemp paper have a minimum burst strength ranging from one hundred pounds per square inch to four hundred pounds per square inch (PSI), preferably from two hundred pounds per square inch to three hundred pounds per square inch. The Edge Crush Test, commonly abbreviated as ECT, measures corrugated linerboard stacking strength, or the compression strength of a corrugated box. ECT measures how much pressure it takes to crush the corrugated board by pressing downward on it while the corrugated board is standing on its edge. ECT strength rating is measured in pounds per lineal inch of load bearing edge. It is an object of the present invention that a single-wall corrugated box comprised of hemp paper have a minimum ECT ranging from twenty pounds per lineal inch to sixty pounds per lineal inch, preferably from thirty two pounds per lineal inch to fifty five pounds per lineal inch. It is an object of the present invention that a double-wall corrugated box comprised of hemp paper have a minimum ECT ranging from forty pounds per lineal inch to ninety pounds per lineal inch. It is an object of the present invention that an E flute corrugated box comprised of hemp paper have a minimum ECT ranging from twenty pounds per lineal inch to forty pounds per lineal inch, preferably from twenty five pounds per lineal inch to thirty five pounds per lineal inch.


It is an object of the present invention that a single-wall corrugated box comprised of hemp paper have a minimum combined weight of facings, defined as the surface area of the box, ranging from forty five pounds to two hundred pounds, preferably from eighty pounds to one hundred eighty pounds. It is an object of the present invention that a single-wall corrugated box comprised of hemp paper have a maximum weight of box and contents ranging from fifteen pounds to one hundred thirty pounds, preferably from sixty five pounds to one hundred twenty pounds. It is an object of the present invention that a single-wall corrugated box comprised of hemp paper have maximum outside dimensions, including length, width and depth, ranging from thirty inches to one hundred twenty inches, preferably from seventy five inches to one hundred five inches.


It is an object of the present invention that a single-wall corrugated box with an ECT rating ranging from twenty eight pounds per lineal inch to thirty eight pounds per lineal inch, with or without built-in perforated handles, comprised of hemp paper used for moving and storage have length ranging from ten inches to thirty inches, widths ranging from eight inches to twenty six inches and depths ranging from nine inches to twenty six inches.


It is an object of the present invention that an extra-small single-wall corrugated box with an ECT rating ranging from twenty eight pounds per lineal inch to thirty eight pounds per lineal inch, with or without built-in perforated handles, comprised of hemp paper used for moving and storage have length ranging from ten inches to seventeen inches, widths ranging from eight inches to fourteen inches and depths ranging from ten inches to fourteen inches.


It is an object of the present invention that a small single-wall corrugated box with an ECT rating ranging from twenty eight pounds per lineal inch to thirty eight pounds per lineal inch, with or without built-in perforated handles, comprised of hemp paper used for moving and storage have length ranging from fourteen inches to nineteen inches, widths ranging from nine inches to fourteen inches and depths ranging from nine inches to fourteen inches.


It is an object of the present invention that a medium single-wall corrugated box with an ECT rating ranging from twenty eight pounds per lineal inch to thirty eight pounds per lineal inch, with or without built-in perforated handles, comprised of hemp paper used for moving and storage have length ranging from fourteen inches to twenty four inches, widths ranging from thirteen inches to twenty inches and depths ranging from thirteen inches to twenty inches.


It is an object of the present invention that a large single-wall corrugated box with an ECT rating ranging from twenty eight pounds per lineal inch to thirty eight pounds per lineal inch, with or without built-in perforated handles, comprised of hemp paper used for moving and storage have length ranging from sixteen inches to thirty inches, widths ranging from thirteen inches to twenty six inches and depths ranging from fourteen inches to twenty six inches.


It is an object of the present invention that an extra-large single-wall corrugated box with an ECT rating ranging from twenty eight pounds per lineal inch to thirty eight pounds per lineal inch, with or without built-in perforated handles, comprised of hemp paper used for moving and storage have length ranging from twenty inches to twenty six inches, widths ranging from sixteen inches to twenty three inches and depths ranging from nineteen inches to twenty six inches.

It is an object of the present invention that a double-wall corrugated box comprised of hemp paper have a maximum weight of box and contents ranging from seventy pounds to two hundred pounds. It is an object of the present invention that a double-wall corrugated box comprised of hemp paper have maximum outside dimensions, including length, width and depth, ranging from eighty inches to one hundred thirty inches.


It is an object of the present invention that an E flute corrugated box comprised of hemp paper have a minimum combined weight of facings ranging from sixty pounds to ninety pounds, preferably from sixty five pounds to eighty five pounds.


It is an object of the present invention that an E flute corrugated box comprised of hemp paper have a maximum weight of box and contents ranging from thirty pounds to sixty pounds, preferably from thirty five pounds to fifty pounds. It is an object of the present invention that an E flute corrugated box comprised of hemp paper have maximum outside dimensions, including length, width and depth, ranging from forty inches to seventy inches, preferably from fifty inches to sixty inches.


It is an object of the present invention that the corrugated box comprised of hemp have a box manufacturer's certificate, a circular stamp that includes the box manufacturer's name and other technical information, printed on the box.


It is an object of the present invention that the amount of hemp pulp fibers and the length of those fibers in a corrugated sheet substantially contribute to box strength. For example, the difference between a 200 lb. box and a 275 lb. box is that the latter has more pulp fibers in its corrugated linerboard.


It is an object of the present invention that corrugated boxes comprised of hemp paper be produced in traditional rectangular shapes and cubes, or elongated shapes and sizes for specialized uses. It is an object of the present invention that corrugated boxes comprised of hemp paper be produced in cube boxes, which feature the same length on all edges and have the same square box shape on all sides. It is an object of the present invention that corrugated boxes comprised of hemp paper be produced in multi-height boxes, which have a design that lets a user choose between various heights while keeping a fixed width and depth. It is an object of the present invention that corrugated boxes comprised of hemp paper be produced in long boxes, which have a longer length compared to their width and height. Long boxes allow loading elongated items that can ship on their side or lying down flat. It is an object of the present invention that corrugated boxes comprised of hemp paper be produced in tall boxes, which feature a smaller length and width compared to a taller height. Tall boxes are good for shipping tall items that can't be folded down and need to stay upright during transit. It is an object of the present invention that corrugated boxes comprised of hemp paper be produced in telescoping boxes, which allow for shipping long items that may not fit into a single box. Telescoping boxes fit together. It is an object of the present invention that corrugated boxes comprised of hemp paper be produced in side-loading boxes, which are often wide and thin and have an opening on the narrow side to load or unload times.


It is an object of the present invention that hemp paper be brown in color, commonly called unbleached or kraft. It is an object of the present invention that hemp paper be white in color, commonly called bleached. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be comprised of bleached hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be comprised of unbleached hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be of a color other than white or brown. It is an object of the present invention to use non-toxic bleaching to whiten hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention that hemp paper used to make cardboard carton or corrugated box and packaging products be whitened with hydrogen peroxide during the bleaching process.


It is an object of the present invention that the hemp paper comprise a single-ply paper sheet. It is an object of the present invention that the hemp paper comprise a double-ply paper sheet.


It is an object of the present invention for a hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be closed with a closure device such as packing tape, adhesive tape, or a sticker. It is an object of the present invention for the closure mechanism to comprise a peel-off sticker or label attached to the hemp paper cardboard carton to seal or reseal the carton, the peel-off sticker or label is defined as a device having a hemp paper strip or piece that covers adhesive, and when the hemp paper strip or piece is removed, adhesive is functional. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper strip or piece consisting of hemp paper to be recyclable, compostable, biodegradable or any combination. It is an object of the present invention for the peel-off strip to be a coupon.


It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to have handles. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box with handles for the handles to be built-in, perforated handles. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box with handles to have a handle on opposite sides of the carton or box.


The present invention relates to a hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box made of flipside paper, namely a cardboard carton or corrugated box made with bleached hemp paper on the outside and unbleached hemp paper on the inside. The present invention relates to a hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box made of flipside paper, namely a cardboard carton or corrugated box made with bleached hemp paper on the inside and unbleached hemp paper on the outside.


It is an object of the present invention that the hemp paper be oil and grease resistant, preventing grease from escaping through the cardboard carton or corrugated box. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be oil and grease resistant. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be coated with an oil and grease resistant material.


It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be leak-proof. It is an object of the present invention that the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box be coated with a water-resistant material. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be moisture proof, preventing liquids or condensation from escaping the bag.


It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be recyclable. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be curbside recyclable.


The present invention relates to a hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box that is more environmentally friendly than a cardboard carton or corrugated box made from virgin paper or even paper made with recycled content. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be toxin free. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be chlorine free. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box not to include BPAs (bisphenol A), Lead, Phthalates, and PFAs (perfluoroalkoxy alkanes). It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be biodegradable. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be compostable. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to have some combination of the following environmentally friendly features: chlorine free, toxin free, compostable, recyclable, biodegradable, BPA free, lead free, Phthalates free, PFA free.


It is an object of the present invention for a hemp paper cardboard carton to be treated with wax to provide better storage and handling for the object or objects such as popcorn placed inside the box or carton. It is an object of the present invention for a hemp paper cardboard carton to be double waxed. Double waxed is defined as adding a further layer of wax.


In an embodiment of the present invention, the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box have a wide face and a seamless construction, which provides an excellent surface area to accept all types of graphics on the top, bottom and sides of the carton or box.


It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be printable, allowing for ink and graphics to be attached to the carton or box. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be printable with water-soluble inks. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to be printable with non-water-soluble inks. It is an object of the present invention for a hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to contain printed social messaging. It is an object of the present invention for the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box to have an advertisement printed on it. It is an object of the present invention that the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box be used as an advertising vehicle to communicate messages, coupons or contests to customers.


The present invention relates to methods for printing from a digital-based image directly onto products made from hemp paper. Digital printing refers to methods of printing from a digital-based image onto a surface or substrate, without requiring the need for separate, analog plates. Unlike conventional ink used in offset printing, the ink or toner used in digital printing does not permeate the substrate but forms a thin layer on the surface.


The present invention relates to a method of digital printing of graphics and/or text on a hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box. It is an object of the present invention for the digital printing system to print repeated images of the graphics and/or text on the hemp paper used to make a cardboard carton or corrugated box.


The present invention relates to a method that comprises using a separate digital printing system to pre-print single or multiple color graphics and/or text on rolls of hemp paper used to make hemp paper cardboard cartons or corrugated boxes. It is an object of the present invention for the method to comprise using a separate digital printing system to pre-print on rolls of hemp paper prior to the hemp paper being fed to a carton or box machine for producing cardboard cartons or corrugated boxes. It is an object of the present invention for the ink or toner to form a thin layer on the surface of the hemp paper. It is an object of the present invention for the ink or toner to be adhered to the hemp paper by using some combination of fuser fluid, heat or UV curing. It is an object of the present invention for the digital printing system to print continuously on the hemp paper as it is unrolled and fed to a cardboard carton or corrugated box making machine.


The present invention relates to a method that comprises using a digital printing system to post-print single or multiple color graphics and/or text on hemp paper cardboard cartons or corrugated boxes. It is an object of the present invention for the method to comprise taking hemp paper unassembled or unfolded cardboard cartons or corrugated boxes already separately produced on a carton or box machine and feeding the hemp paper cardboard cartons or corrugated boxes to a separate digital printing system.


It is an object of the present invention for the method to comprise the digital printing system depositing ink or toner onto the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box surface to form an image. It is an object of the present invention for the ink or toner to form a thin layer on the surface of the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box. It is an object of the present invention for the ink or toner to be adhered to the hemp paper cardboard carton or corrugated box by using some combination of fuser fluid, heat, or UV curing.


It is an object of the present invention to have a digital printing system to use inkjet printing featuring Piezo print heads to achieve photo quality printing onto cardboard cartons or corrugated boxes.


For the cardboard cartons and corrugated boxes, length is the longer dimension, width is the shorter dimension measured along the opening of the box and depth is the distance between the opening and opposite pan.


It is an object of the present invention for the cardboard carton or corrugated box to be closed using staples.


It is an object of the present invention for the cardboard carton or corrugated box to be closed using a folded flap.


It is an object of the present invention for the cardboard carton or corrugated box to have a corner guard made of multiple layers of cardboard sheets.

  • 1. A cardboard carton or corrugated box comprised of hemp paper; said hemp paper including machine made hemp paper;said cardboard carton including a cardboard box.
  • 2. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said hemp paper comprises one hundred percent hemp.
  • 3. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said hemp paper comprises one to twenty five percent hemp.
  • 4. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said hemp paper comprises twenty five to fifty percent hemp.
  • 5. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said hemp paper is comprises fifty to seventy-five percent hemp.
  • 6. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said hemp paper comprises seventy-five to one hundred percent hemp.
  • 7. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said hemp paper has a hurd content of less than fifteen percent.
  • 8. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said hurd content is less than ten percent.

  • 14. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said hemp paper has a tensile MD strength ranging from five pounds to two hundred pounds per inch, and a tensile CD strength ranging from five pounds to two hundred pounds per inch.
  • 15. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said hemp paper has an MD strength greater than or equal to the CD strength.
  • 16. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said hemp paper has an elongation MD percentage ranging from one half to twenty pounds per inch, and an elongation CD percentage ranging from one half pound to twenty pounds per inch.
  • 17. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said hemp paper is treated or coated with AKD sizing to reduced level of curling in cardboard sheet and linerboard so hemp cardboard carton or corrugated box will lay flat on surface.
  • 18. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 further comprising: a box manufacturer's certificate that is comprised of a circular stamp that includes a box manufacturer's name and other technical information printed on said box.
  • 19. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said hemp paper is unbleached or kraft.
  • 20. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said hemp paper is bleached.
  • 21. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 comprising a closure device.
  • 22. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 21 wherein said closure device is packing tape, adhesive tape, staples, a folded flap, a sticker, or some combination.
  • 23. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 having a corner guard made of multiple layers of cardboard sheets comprised of hemp.

The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said carton or box comprises bleached hemp paper on outside of said carton or box and unbleached hemp paper on inside of said carton or box or said carton or box comprises bleached hemp paper on inside of said carton or box and unbleached hemp paper on outside of said carton or box.
  • 25. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said hemp paper is oil and grease resistant.
  • 26. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said cardboard carton or corrugated box is leak-proof or coated with a water-resistant material, or moisture proof.
  • 27. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said carton or box is recyclable or curbside recyclable.
  • 28. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said carton or box is biodegradable, compostable, or both biodegradable and compostable.
  • 29. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said carton or box has some combination of environmentally friendly features: chlorine free, toxin free, compostable, recyclable, biodegradable, BPA free, lead free, Phthalates free and PFA free.
  • 30. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said carton or box has a wide face and a seamless construction, which provides a surface area to accept all types of graphics and inks on top, bottom and sides of said carton or box.
  • 31. The cardboard carton or corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said carton or box has coupons, bar codes, or QR codes printed on said carton or box.
  • 32. A cardboard sheet used to form said carton of claim 1 comprising hemp paper.
  • 33. The corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said corrugated box is a single-wall corrugated box, wherein said hemp paper has a minimum burst strength ranging from one hundred pounds per square inch to four hundred pounds per square inch (PSI), and a minimum Edge Crush Test (ECT) ranging from twenty pounds per lineal inch to sixty pounds per lineal inch.
  • 34. The corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said corrugated box is a double-wall corrugated box, wherein said hemp paper has a minimum burst strength ranging from one hundred seventy five pounds per square inch to seven hundred pounds per square inch (PSI);a minimum ECT ranging from forty pounds per lineal inch to ninety pounds per lineal inch;a minimum combined weight of facings, including center facings of said double wall, ranging from eighty pounds to three hundred pounds;said box having a maximum weight of box and contents ranging from seventy pounds to two hundred pounds;said box having maximum outside dimensions, including length, width and depth ranging from eighty inches to one hundred thirty inches.
  • 35. The corrugated box of claim 1 wherein said box is an E flute corrugated box wherein said hemp paper has a minimum burst strength ranging from one hundred twenty five pounds per square inch to two hundred pounds per square inch (PSI); a minimum ECT ranging from twenty pounds per lineal inch to forty pounds per lineal inch;said box having a minimum combined weight of facings ranging from sixty pounds to ninety pounds;said box having a maximum weight of box and contents ranging from thirty pounds to sixty pounds;said box having maximum outside dimensions, including length, width and depth, ranging from forty inches to seventy inches.
  • 36. The single-wall corrugated box of claim 33 having a minimum combined weight of facings ranging from forty five to two hundred pounds and a maximum weight of box and contents ranging from fifteen to one hundred thirty pounds.
  • 37. The single-wall corrugated box of claim 33 having maximum outside dimensions, including length, width and depth, ranging from thirty inches to one hundred twenty inches.
  • 38. The single-wall corrugated box of claim 33 having an ECT rating ranging from twenty eight pounds per lineal inch to thirty eight pounds per lineal inch, having a length ranging from ten inches to thirty inches, widths ranging from eight inches to twenty six inches and depths ranging from nine inches to twenty six inches.

The double-wall corrugated box of claim 34 having an ECT rating ranging from forty five pounds per lineal inch to fifty five pounds per lineal inch, having a length ranging from ten inches to twenty six inches, widths ranging from eight inches to twenty six inches and depths ranging from nine inches to twenty six inches.

A corrugated slot container comprising a regular slotted container box comprised of hemp paper; said box comprised of four flaps on top and four flaps on bottom of said box;said four flaps meet in middle on top of said box and can be taped closed;said four flaps meet in middle on bottom of said box and can be taped closed.
  • 49. A full overlap slotted container box comprised of hemp paper; said box having long closure flaps that overlap each other almost completely, creating extra layers of corrugated board.
  • 50. A half slotted container box comprised of hemp paper; said box having four flaps on one side of said box and having one flapless open side.
