Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula ##STR17##wherein
- R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom,
- R.sup.2 is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a cyano group, and
- R is a group of the formula ##STR18## wherein R.sup.3 is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a nitro group, a (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl group, or a (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy group, and
- R.sup.4 is a divalent (C.sub.1 -C.sub.5)alkylene group.
- 2. The compound of claim 1 wherein R is a group of the formula ##STR19##
- 3. The compound of claim 1 wherein R is a group of the formula ##STR20##
- 4. The compound of claim 3 wherein R.sup.3 is a hydrogen atom.
- 5. The compound of claim 4 wherein R.sup.2 is a hydrogen atom.
- 6. The compound of claim 5 wherein R.sup.4 is a group of the formula --CHR.sup.7 -- wherein R.sup.7 is a hydrogen atom or a (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl group.
- 7. The compound of claim 6 wherein R.sup.1 is a chlorine atom and R.sup.7 is a methyl group.
- 8. The compound of claim 6 wherein R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom and R.sup.7 is a methyl group.
- 9. A herbicidal composition comprising a compound of claim 1 and an agronomically-acceptable carrier.
- 10. A method for controlling weeds which comprises applying to the growth medium prior to the emergence of the weeds from the growth medium a compound of claim 1 in an amount sufficient to control the growth of the weeds.
- 11. The method of claim 10 wherein the weeds are monocots.
- 12. A method for controlling weeds which comprises applying to weed seedlings a compound of claim 1 in an amount sufficient to control the growth of the seedlings.
- 13. The method of claim 12 wherein the weeds are monocots.
