Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula: ##STR52## wherein J is ##STR53## E is a bridge of 3 or 4 atoms, which may be substituted or unsubstituted, containing 0-2 heteroatoms selected from the group consisting of oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen and also containing 1-4 atoms of carbon, said bridge together with two carbon attachment sites forming a partially saturated 5 to 6 membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring; or E is a bridge of 3 or 4 atoms which may be substituted or unsubstituted containing at least 1 heteroatom selected from 0-1 oxygen or sulfur or 0-2 nitrogen and 1-3 atoms of carbon, said bridge together with two carbon attachment sites forming an unsaturated 5 to 6 membered heterocyclic ring, with the proviso that when E contains two atoms of oxygen or sulfur, then they must be separated by at least one atom of carbon and that oxygen and sulfur are only linked to each other if the sulfur is in the form of SO or SO.sub.2 ; in the bridging group E nitrogen may take the form of N or N--O, sulfur may take the form of S, SO or SO.sub.2, and one of the atoms of carbon may be a carbonyl, thiocarbonyl or the cyclic 5 and 6 membered ketals thereof; when one of the bridging atoms is a substituted carbon, the substituent on said carbon is selected from H, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 haloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 haloalkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkynyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 haloalkynyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxycarbonyl, CN, NO.sub.2, OH, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 haloalkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkylsulfinyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkylsulfonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkylcarbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkylsulfamoyl, di(C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl)sulfamoyl and C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl substituted with C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkylthio or CN; when at least one of the bridging atoms is a nitrogen (other than nitrogen in the form of R.sub.6 NSO.sub.2 in J.sub.7, J.sub.8, J.sub.11 and J.sub.12) substituents on said nitrogen are selected from H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 haloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 haloalkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkynyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 haloalkynyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub. 4 alkylcarbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxycarbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkylaminocarbonyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylsulfonyl; when at least one of the bridging atoms is a nitrogen, in the form of R.sub.6 NSO.sub.2 as in J.sub.7, J.sub.8, J.sub.11 and J.sub.12, the nitrogen substituents are as defined for R.sub.6 ;

- (a) when W is S, then R is H, A is A-1, and Y is CH.sub.3, OCH.sub.3, OC.sub.2 H.sub.5, CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.3, C.sub.2 H.sub.5, CF.sub.3, SCH.sub.3, OCH.sub.2 CH.dbd.CH.sub.2, OCH.sub.2 C.tbd.CH, OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.3, CH(OCH.sub.3).sub.2 or ##STR57## (b) the total number of carbon atoms in R.sub.6 is less than or equal to 13;
- (c) when the total number of carbon atoms of X and Y is greater than four, then the number of carbon atoms of R.sub.1 is less than or equal to two, and the number of carbon atoms of R.sub.6 is less than or equal to four;
- and their agriculturally suitable salts.

- (a) the total number of carbon atoms in R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 is less than or equal to 4;
- (b) when J is J.sub.1 or J.sub.2, then R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are other than F or Cl;
- (c) the total number of carbon atoms in R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 is less than or equal to 4;
- (d) J is J.sub.5, J.sub.6, J.sub.27, J.sub.28, J.sub.29, J.sub.30, J.sub.31, J.sub.32, J.sub.33, J.sub.34, J.sub.41, J.sub.42, J.sub.43 or J.sub.44 and n is O, then R.sub.4 and/or R.sub.5 is H;
- (e) when J is J.sub.61 or J.sub.62 and n is O, then R.sub.4 is H or CH.sub.3 ;
- (f) when R.sub.17 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, then R.sub.18 is H, CH.sub.3 or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy; and when R.sub.18 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, then R.sub.17 is not F, or Cl; and
- (g) when R.sub.18 is OH, then R.sub.17 is H or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl.

- 7. A compound of claim 6 wherein A is A-1; X is CH.sub.3, OCH.sub.3, OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.3, OCF.sub.2 H or OCH.sub.2 CF.sub.3 ; and Y is CH.sub.3, OCH.sub.3, C.sub.2 H.sub.5, CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.3, NHCH.sub.3 or CH(OCH.sub.3).sub.2.
- 8. A compound of claim 7 wherein J is J.sub.1 or J.sub.2.
- 9. A compound of claim 7 wherein J is J.sub.3 or J.sub.4.
- 10. A compound of claim 7 wherein J is J.sub.5 or J.sub.6.
- 11. A compound of claim 7 wherein J is J.sub.7 or J.sub.8.
